Fable: Pre-Alpha Gameplay

Looks super janky, but again, it's Pre-Alpha Gameplay
Pre-alpha only relates to not having all the gameplay mechanics and systems locked down for a final release, meaning that features showcased in promotional materials (such as the crash landings in the Battlefield V announcement trailer) could still not make it to the final game.

It is not meant to convey that the graphics or gameplay won't be up to the standards of what they expect the final game to look and play as, which is why they polish these vertical slices of gameplay to final quality instead of showing in-development footage of a poorly animated character, running through a graybox and at 19fps.

i loved fable and fable 2 (mostly for the dog).
This looks good graphically but the combat seems rough, maybe they'll improve it.
Not a fan of the protagonist but we'll see.

Looks great visually, but those little snippets of gameplay look very rough, after how long it's been in development you would have imagined they could at least cobble together a few minutes of actual uncut gameplay showing a blend of combat, exploration a cut-scenes or two, but nope; it must really need that delay.

This. What we are being shown here is not... some peek behind the curtain where the game in active development actually looks and plays like this. We are seeing a highly polished vertical slice. Pre-alpha means missing textures, geometry, music, etc. A game in pre-alpha barely functions on its own. This trailer - as they all are, and as I have stated several times before - is highly misleading.

This is what a pre-alpha game looks like.

Main thing for me is how much does the world and character appearance change based on your actions. 22 years past the first Fable. We can bring more dreams of 2004 to reality

Imagine butchering the actress like this

that pic always reminds me of this.

Agreed. I mean it's not a deal breaker for me if she was the only protagonist we can select, but in all three mainline Fable games I was a dude. I often opt to play as a dude.

They're just pulling the same bullshit that Ubisoft pulled with Avatar. Many of these people at the studios are so waist deep in feminist indoctrination that they will actively hide the fact that you can play as a male protagonist fully knowing that the user base is overwhelmingly male and prefer to play as such. How many people knew based on the marketing for Avatar that you could even play as a male character? They actively sabotage themselves. Why wouldn't dual protagonist be mentioned for Fable as soon as the game was announced?

2026??

You better have the BEST mechanics of any Fable game. Don't care for graphics if the systems are not there to make this an amazing Fable.

It's looking amazing tho.

I can't tell who is kidding when asking why she kicked the chicken, but for those being serious: it is a reference to the original titles. in those games, you earn titles as you play, but you start off with the title "Chicken Chaser"

whenever you walk through villages, people call you Chicken Chaser. you can then chase down and kick chickens, bringing some hilarious responses from towns people

you can choose to stay Chicken Chaser the entire game, which is what I do

Eh....this is much better picture of her. Even for a 360 game, she is better looking than this modern day version.

well her look is dependent on how good or evil you are, what hairstyle you have etc.

she can look ok, she can look ugly, or she can look generic as fuck like in your image.
this is possibly true for the new game as well.

I'll take "generic as fuck" over what she looks like right now. And it would actually make sense for her to start out looking "generic". Definitely interested in hearing what the plan is here either way.

The game is a year from release. It's certainly not going to be at the 'gray boxes' stage at this point.

Honestly, it does look too good to be true after what we've gotten this gen, but I expected this level of fidelity from top of the line studios like ND, Rockstar, and GG. Playground getting there on their first try at an action adventure game is surprising but they do have a lot of experience making open worlds.

Not really that surprising, since they've got a long history of making visually great games and the vegetation in FH5 is top tier.

Yup, my character in Fable 2 was hideous but i can get pretty evil and use a ton of magic

Mine looked nothing like Topher Topher characters but I don't doubt he used real pics. I also constantly eat because it makes me laugh that my character can get fat. This is sorta my point about customization.

Guessing this new game will be like that too

SeriesS runs the forzatech engine at 60fps so cut that frame rate in half for a game of this style and this should be a looker even on this.
It's going to be interesting how that Engine behaves.

It reminds me of the Frostbite engine. Great for FPS but completely incompetent for RPGs.

Frostbite was shoehorned on studios who didn't ask for it, BioWare only worked on UE for years and then they were suddenly asked to shift to Frostbite for Dragon Age and Andromeda.

This is Playground's own iteration of the Forza engine, they shouldn't have issues like the above, ideally.

I'm a bit confused. Do you play as a set protagonist, which is this girl, or do you have a male option?
Looks like you can pick who you want to be

If it's anything like the other games, it will have further customization layered on top

Rumor is a male option will be there. If it is like past Fable games then appearance will change with your morality and, of course, clothing.

Got it. It's just that this game has been in development forever and they keep show us the same girl over and over.

that's irrelevant.

their engine was not built for RPGs.

see how the RE Engine behaves with open world games.

FWIW the older titles kept showing a male as a protagonist in promo materials but the game allowed you to play as a female

Excuse me your highness.

I own all consoles...and can give 2 shits about PC/console warring. Try again.
hah, funny how you change your tune once you realized I own a PC. what happened to this? you're the first one to start warring, see below:
I'd rather take games with actual gameplay over "strung-together-animations" that are moreso emulating or alluding to actual real gameplay any day.

But whatever, I guess Xbox owners have been trained to lower ther standards and just be happy SOMETHING is coming out.
you realize how stupid you look saying this to a PC gamer right?

And how double stupid you look claiming you have no interest in console warring? Your above post is literally console warring

If the issue is scale, the FH games are already massive open worlds, so that won't be an issue.

As far as RPG mechanics go, they've been staffing up with talent from big studios for a while so here's hoping.

I am quite sure Playground needed to completely overhaul their game engine for Fable. The tools needed are just vastly different

Leaks already coming out that the delay was due to technical issues

I assume this is day one on PS5? Have they said officially yet?

It'd be nice if they main the main character less fugly for the PlayStation version.

Sure but I just think it would do good to show us other options at this point. Male V was all over the promos for CP77, but they still showed you an example of Female V.

Maybe next trailer.

Why?

All that does is pander to weirdos who keep having this weird discussion about how fuck-able video game characters. Its a video game for you to play and enjoy the narrative or game loop, not for you to jerk it . There's plenty of porn and cartoon/cgi/rule34 porn on the web for you to do that to.

Any of you who keeps talking out loud about how bangable what is akin to a cartoon should remember to use your inside voice, cause in the real world telling random people that some anthropomorphize-d computer's depiction of a human being is not being fuckable enough for you; gets you strange looks.

someone is out of the loop

The main character model is so bad. I really hope there is a different option (male?) or a character creator.

If not ill chose "show helmet" for this character…
