Fable

I have *no* idea how anyone, short of Scott (Who listens to the entire VA of *every* conversation) could rack up that amount of time in Fable.

Well, I hope it's closer to 7-15 hours instead of 25, I don't feel like spending that much time on a game.

I didn't complete near every quest and my game clock was 13 or 14 hours.

Musashi: What the hell were you doing between quests? :-p

There's nothing to sightsee/explore, there's *nothing* outside of getting the 2 church weapons and getting married for you to do. How on earth did you waste that much time :-p

Um...fighting? I did do a bit of that to level up my skills/attributes. I didn't do much exploring, I agree it's very roped off. As I said, I have very mixed feelings about the game but I wasn't hypnotized and listening to the music for 5 hours at a time :lol

Maybe I broke the game or something, I didn't have to do *too* much fighting to get a shitload of XP (Physical shield racks up the combat multiplier like mad).

Having one complaining wife in a videogame was enough for me so I finished it in about 7 hours... Fun game, but it feels like one of the most limited games ever instead of the most open game ever like it was supposed to be.

7 is rushing, probably skipping cutscenes and such..

if you explore and experiment with stuff... about 15-20.. if you just play fast: 10-12

Think my playtime was about 12 hours, completing most stuff...including a couple of hours looking for bogus easter eggs.

Its worth playing through twice imo.

I quit shortly after the arena stuff because I was annoyed that the plot wasn't progressing and there was only about two or three hours of game left after that part. Then I picked up GTA SA and Fable became a distant memory.

I thought it was paced really well, it was just far too short, IMO, and over far too quickly. It felt like plot twists which should have lasted a few hours were happening in 5 minutes
.

I was in a very similar boat. I did most things and it took around 15 hrs. I wasn't entranced by the game, but I spent some enjoyable time with it. A lot of people complain about how short it is, but I was rather glad that it ended when it did.

Spent 20, with everything done. The shortness is horribly overdrawn if you ask me. But yeah, it could've been longer! :)

Took me like 16 hours, and I did all but short two quest...One that I just didn't feel like doing, and another that my alignment did not permit. Considering that a good 2-3 hours of that was of me "stackin dem dollas" doing the realestate trick....The game isn't that long.

Save yourself the time, and just go read IGN's "Greatest Preview of All time" Fable write-up.

IGN's Fable preview>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>........Fable.

I'm still working on the game, but I've put around 15 hours into it. I'm at the last quest now but I have no intentions of finishing it for a little while.

I really enjoy just running around and playing mini-games, marrying and sexing girls, etc.

I want to beef up my guy to the max before I fight Jack of Blades. I've still got around 3 optional quests and a bunch of side quests to do.

I was looking at a strategy guide the other day and it has ALOT of side stuff to do and I'll probably use it to unlock everything...why not?

And I can see myself playing through it again, as a complete bad ass...

I guess the excitement of having a new Xbox is translating to all my games (I have SC:CT, Halo 2, Sega GT/JSRF, and Shenmue II but I'm borrowing Fable and Burnout III from a friend).

I spent lots of time tooling around and doing side-quests, and it took me 11 hours. And I seriously think 3 of those were staring at loading screens.

It's a nice game, I'm currently playing through it again (probably for about the 3rd time). I wish the game was more like it was originally planned tho. Took me about 12 to 14 hours to finish it the first time i think.

the ending is shitty...

It is, but you can carry on playing the game after it, with the big-mutherfucker sword.

Also, I ended up racking about 21 hours or so on it. Missed probably three side quests. I married a shitload of women, bought a fuckload of properties and tried to buy up a whole village by slaughtering everyone to lower the prices. Almost bought all of the first village.

A great fucking game. So much fun.

:lol

My first playthrough was a Good character, and I did close to everything in the game, short of some Boasts, the Hero Doll quest, the broken Temple crap, and buying up all the properties. I also spent a few hours dicking around with the Archery Competition and exploring early on (like, going to Oakvale before ever leveling up.. my hero was scarred so badly after that :P). Game time ended up around 22-23 hours, though I swear an hour of that was credits.

Second playthrough was an Evil character, and again I did everything but the things listed above (though I think I ended up with a few more properties). Just knowing where to go, spending less time dicking around (took items from every house in the game, though, and spent time running around killing people/guards), and skipping side dialogue, I ended up finishing it in under 14 hours.

As for the opinions on this game, ...well, just another time I disagree, I guess. Personally, I'd place Arx Fatalis, Jade Empire, KotOR, etc well above Fable, and I wouldn't dare give it above a 7 while sober.

But to each their own, eh?

I'd say if youre not the type that just plows through games for the sake of beatingthem then it'll give yu about 12-15 hours. Ofcourse it took me 30 hours, but thats because I constantly kept returning to areas already completed and had fun pumeling the enemies over and over, the game is such a fun hack and slash. The beauty of the game is the linear but very great feeling environments, the music, and dare I say it-the games art style, which I liked alot.

Buy the game if its been discounted, otherwise wait for another price drop if youre simply one of those that juggle a ton of games and play your library like they were inventory to be finished off, thats not how you play Fable,or any other game really. I guess what I'm saying is I played Fable a whole lot,and even though I see how some have merrit for dislking some of the things that the game gave us(the game being abit too easy, the closed off world which was pretty linear and not very open ended)but it was still very fun and involving none the less. The amount of sidequests kept the game going for awhile for me,thats where I spent alot of time with this game. Plus the hack and slash engine was simply but fun and very rewarding. Btw-as mentionedabove-the sidquests prolong the game, but also the mini games like the fishing, the treasure hunting, they also add more length to the game too. And in th end-they were all pretty fun for me.

Sure Fable was suppose to reinvent the way we played rpgs,it fell far short on that aspect. But what they did give us was pretty damn enjoyable, well for me it was anyways. I was never one of the folks who waited month to month for this games release,so I never got in on its hype. Maybe I'm just lucky,I came away enjoying the game for what it was.

It's a 35 hours game if you are the type of gamer like me who likes getting everything in the game and seeing every part of it. Excellent game and it only gets better as you play it.

How the hell can you spend 35hrs in it? I did every thing (I knew was) possible, had heaps of wives, spent a good 2hrs beating up guards, and still only clocked 15hrs.

There are not 35 hours of gameplay in Fable...no where near. Even with 2 playthroughs I dont see how you could top 30 hours unless you just left the console on or your disc drive is fucked and you spent 10 hours in loading screens.

Fable's combat isn't *that* great. It's better than Morrowind, sure, but just tapping A and occassionally rolling (against the giants and 1 or two other creatures) isn't enough.

Yeah, it gets redundant. I just fought the first boss I guess (that fat ugly dirt creature thing that comes out of the ground), and basically, the only way you can kill him without risking your lives is by using the thunder spell on him constantly. Not exactly boring, because not all battles are like that, but I hope future bosses (if that's what you want to call them) are more exciting to fight against.

So far, I'm loving this game though. I'd bet that FFXII won't be as good. :D

How should I go about upgrading my character? I don't know where to start. I'm very new to this type of RPG. I've upgraded strength, toughness, and a couple other things but I really don't know what's the smartest thing to do. Should I concentrate on strength, then magic, etc.? Or should I upgrade evenly?

Every time you upgrade you age. Although grey hair seems to be a function of extreme good/evil.

So I'd suggest focusing on strenth/beserk/slow time/toughness/speed(or whatever it's called) for melee. That's what I did.

You can also focus on magic or archery.

Archery bores me. Magic and physical attacks are more fun.

I do want to be more sneaky, though.

btw I'm surprised that the XBox's CELERON CPU is capabile of contributing to rendering such beautiful environments. The lighting, models and texturing are really impressive.

So it's comparable to Jade Empire's combat?

If you're going to be focusing on Melee, I'd focus on all 3 of the Physical upgrades, Speed, spells like Physical Shield, Slow Time, Berserk, and/or Multi Strike, as well as a few Magic Power upgrades.

If you want to focus on Ranged fighting, which isn't recommended, start with things like Accuracy, Physical Shield, Slow Time, Multi Arrow, etc.

And if you want to go mage, just go nuts with spells! Feel free to ignore most of the physical upgrades (at least, at first), and focus on putting all of your experience into spells and Magic Power. I'd personally go with Physical Shield, Lightning, Force Push, Slow Time, and Heal Life to start.

There are also some other little things worth noting about upgrades:

• Physical upgrades, like Physique & Toughness, change your physical appearance the most. You'll become a bit larger, and grow more hair on your chest with each level.
• Raising Guile grants you the "Steal" expression at Level 3, and the "LockPick" expression when maxed.
• A handful of spells come with an alignment modifier attached, with a +/- notice in the description, as well as a color indicator (Blue or Red) in the level bar. So if you're an Evil character, for example, putting experience into "Heal Life" will move you closer to a Good alignment; vice versa for spells like Berserk & Drain Life.
• Certain spells can only reach max level if you're of the proper alignment. They'll mention this in the spell descriptions.
• Higher levels of spells can target multiple foes at once, so it's worth sticking with one you like, instead of spreading your experience between a few spells.

And lastly, a quick way to earn spare Will Experience is to get your combat multiplier as high as you can with either melee or spells, and then repeatedly use a low-cost spell like Physical Shield. Each casting takes only a little bit of MP, and only grants you something like 5 Will Experience, but if you have a high combat multiplier, you can get a couple thousand experience out of a single magic bar.

Archery is waaay overpowered. The attacks strong and the multiplier racks up very quickly.
Offensive magic mostly sucks, some of the support spells are alright, I mostly used the one that made you rush forward (knocks the enemie over) or teleport behind the enemy then hack them to death.

Upgrading everything evenly worked well, though I didn't find their was a lack of experience, the game was way too easy.

No, JE's combat is one of the best assets of the game once you open it up with the different styles you can attain and upgrade. And you can link styles together which adds an extra layer of depth. JE just didn't have enough polish imo to be one of the best RPG's out there.

Took me 20 hours to complete, but I took my time and had a lot of fun messing around with the different aspects of the game. Definitely looking forward to the improved PC version.

I hated this game. I hated the way the world seemed to bend as you turned in a circle, I hated the art style, I hated the voice-acting, I hated the cookie-cutter, stereotyped and completely forgettable characters, I hated the obvious fetch-questing, but most of all I hated the way you're herded along in a big rush - and this, after hearing so much hype about how this wouldn't be linear like every other damn RPG out there. Hell, it would've been OK, Grandia II was the most linear game I've ever played but I enjoyed it because it was a high-quality experience. But because Fable was so totally unlike what we had ALL been led to expect, I was disgusted. I was finished with this game after 15 minutes, and I doubt I'll ever touch it again except to sell it.

I think the combat mechanics are just about perfect (I would add some more melee combat animations/combos as you got better, but thats about it) the problem is that its so easy to use theres no challenge in beating any of the enemies in the game (bar the last couple of fight club opponents), especially if you're using a bow it's just way too easy to get out the way of every attacker.

The Magic was awesome because you can actually combine spells and effects together, problem again was that there were many combinations (like slowing time then going into bezerk mode) made you so UBER nothing was even a challenge

The problems basically stems from the fact that character development is broken, its way too easy to get all the skills and spells to a level where you are unstoppable using swords, bows or magic. They need to add determental effects of developing in an area to try and make people specialise, so bulking up makes you slower, using magics makes you weaker physically, etc etc.

Then they'll have an easier job creating enemies that actually challenge the player tactically.

I beat it in 8-9 hours. Did the sidequest of getting married to the mayor. I maxed out most of my skills, and that's about it.

HI I THINK FABLE SUX TOO. IT IS WAY TOO SHORT I AM QUALIFIED TO SAY THIS EVEN THOUGH IS SKIPPED HALF THE GAME IN MY MAD RUSH TO COMPLETE IT IN THE LOWEST POSSIBLE TIME SO I CAN COME HERE AND SAY HOW MUCH TOO SHORT IT IS. ALSO THE STORY TOTALLY SUX, I KNOW THIS EVEN THOUGH I SKIPPED ALL THE CUTSCENES TO MAKE IT SHORTER SO I CAN COME HERE AND SAY HOW SHORT IT IS. ALSO IT IS MUCH TOO EASY I WAS ABLE TO TOTALLY BREAK IT BY FARMING MY STATS SO IT WOULD BE TOO EASY AND THEN I CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW EASY IT IS. WHAT A TOTAL SUXXYGAME.
