God damn i didn't watch the show but sounds like they had nothing ...did they even show GEARS? It's 2025 and none of their heavy hitters seem anywhere close to releasing. Sony is almost as bad with nothing to show from Naughty Dog or Sony Santa Monica ..or Guerilla or Bluepoint
Three of those studios released stuff in 2022, and even ND had TLOU2 after Undead Labs and The Coalition released their last games in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Not to mention whatever the fuck The Initiative is.

Fable I'm not worried about unless we get through game awards and we've heard nothing. It's expected to be 2026 so I expect a drop at game awards and then a press tour and build up for 2026 release. If we hit 2026 and have seen nothing, then I suspect trouble.

Perfect Dark I already suspect trouble.

Im starting to wonder how fucking slow and non productive this Studios are working nowadays. What takes so freaking long?
Software development as a whole has been taken over by good for nothing people. Corruption, laziness, incompetence, cowardice and selfishness are the name of the game.

Both of these games were announced 5 years ago, and were not shown during today's Xbox Showcase.

Fable was slated for a 2025 release, until it was pushed back again in February.

Gameplay was shown for Perfect Dark last year but was absent in this year's show and still has no release window.
I thought I heard that the Perfect Dark footage didn't contain gameplay, it was a proof of concept. Haven't they rebooted it twice now? It's probably in development hell and they're in the middle of turning into a live service game.

Fable I think will be fine. I wouldn't even be surprised if PD doesn't happen.
Same. At this point they're going to be trying to get the attention of a generation that doesn't know anything about the original, so they have even more work to do if they want the youths to give a shit about it.

Maybe wishful thinking but the recent bombs and backlash against woke might force them to backtrack their initial pitches.

The games that bomb dont bomb due to wokeness....otherwise Baldurs Gate would on that list....game is woke as.
EXP33 literally half the human characters are DEI or Woke as some people put it, hell the trope people love to spew about wokeness and DEI are all over the place before you have a full party....wont spoil the game too much but if you will know when you see it.......but the game is good so we dont talk about go woke go broke.
Control has a protag who is an angsty girlboss who "talks to herself" incessantly......so woke.....GOTY material.
And list goes on and on for "woke" games that succeed, and "woke" games that fail.

So Wokeness isnt the problem atleast not as much as people make it out to be, some games just arent 10 outta 10 and thats that, fitting any agenda to why is fruitless cuz then you detract from why a game is good or bad and start preaching the wrong message to devs.

The reason no Fable is easy to understand, they are probably optimising it for PS5 Pro.....Perfect Dark though, it's anyone's guess...Just goes to show you the state of play in the games industry today, how long does a James Bond, Metroid Prime 4 take to release, and then we have this with Perfect Dark, announced five years ago, and yet it's nowhere near a launch date...

Perfect Dark has clearly had development issues and has had to resort to outside help, and Fable is costing a studio dedicated to making driving arcade games much more than expected.

Seems ever since XB1 came out Microsoft buys up all these studios and they have practically zero output even 7+ years later. MS must be terrible at managing studios.

It's a shame I used to buy all 3 platforms and sadly stopped with MS this generation after the 2013 XB1 had nothing great first party wise after 2014.

Every release of Perfect Dark has been delayed. Shit, even the Nintendo release was plagued by many delays. This is par for the course.

There are 9,000 people in trouble who have lost their jobs.

yup, and that realllllly sucks (and fwiw, not all 9000 people at MS being let go are in gaming/xbox).

but you can't start a studio 7 years ago, announce your game 2 years later and then 5 years after that still have a project not close to completion.

sure, pandemic and all that but it was still in pre-prod in 2023. the they changed engines to ue5 and in oct 2024 a new creative director came on. game was obviously in dev hell and MS figured 7 years of paying for it was enough.

if this was gonna be out in the next 12 months it wouldn't have been shuttered.

Man nobody should announce games 5 years in advance.
*cough*

*cough*

They had no choice but to announce all this shit early. They need to hype people up cause they had nothing to show.
Grab people with announcements and get them hoping and supporting your brand...

Fable not being cancelled is quite surprising in a sense.

We all thought that MS had bought Activision, but in reality, it feels like it is the other way around.

It's even worse when you consider the amount of DEI consultant firms that are interfering with your project and requesting mandatory changes to ensure your game is considered 'inclusive'. All of which are mandated and required by Microsoft.

In light of everything that's happened today, I don't think anyone can look at Fable and think it's safe.

The only thing they've claimed are "safe" are the showcase games and Fable wasn't at the showcase. The last we've seen of Fable was still pre-Alpha footage that was mostly cutscenes, cut-aways of walking or horse riding in different biomes, and some really janky looking combat (especially the fight against the cockatrice).

Playground games are the money studio Forza Horizon games actually sell. If they need to they could put out a FH6 and still be fine. As for Turn10 getting the 50% axe that's prolly due to the piss poor launch of recent motor title that put a lot of people off from those line of games.

The closure of this initiative studio really just makes me lose any confidence in Microsoft to be able to do anything positive. This studio was created to add another big studio to make games that can compete with other great studios out there. They had one job and they couldn't do it, even with help from Crystal Dynamics. I don't understand how they both can't do it. I just don't get how you fuck this up.

I'm in software development not game development. Developing large solutions is tough. Probably 5x more complicated in game development. But this team was full of industry veterans. How the hell did it go so wrong.

And who made the decision to make her look like a steroid-faced 35 year old man. The whole thing is just incredible. Incompetence in so many levels.

That's what I don't understand. This studio looked like a no brainer to make a successful game or at least competent enough to make something. This wasn't some new people to the industry. These were a bunch of vet's like you said. This is like the dodgers not making the playoffs after spending ridiculous amounts of money and having all that talent. It boggles my mind that you can screw this up with all the experience on it.

The thing is with gamepass why would you announce a game 5 years before you launch it... if ppl are gonna subscribe the month you launch it to play ir for "free"...

People who said the footage looked fake vindicated.

Makes you wonder what else Microsoft have been bullshotting, how than they be trusted?
