Factor 5's PS3 game "Lair"

It doesn't look more impresive then the massive ork battle in Kameo where they also renderd a whole landscape.....but this does look good.

I only don't see the power over X360...realy.

Kameo has a choppy framerate during massive scenes, standard running animation, and is coupled with a sharp current gen w/more polys visual look to the characters.

This game is completely smooth, has gorgeous animation, and has a slick filter haze look to it that almost seems like CG.

While I don't think the trailer is good and the dragons look kinda ugly; it definitely is the best looking real-time next-gen example I've seen. X360's highest visual point currently is that 60fps PGR3 video and this does look a step above it IMO.

Also this game has no landscape to render. Not as much enemies as Kameo. They could show lower res poly dragons farther from the screen.

It's a nice show case for Factor 5 and the PS3 cos it looked really bad for them, but the big difference in power over the X360 isn't here.

I mean you see one highly deatailed dragon in the begin of the move and 1 rocky prt of a mountain. Then you see a whole bunch of dragaons impressive...but who says they all have a high poly count.

All in all it look good and indeed on par with X360 stuff.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

it takes place in space and just below the planet's atmosphere. :lol

Please stop. Thanks.

it remins to be seen where the wall is in "lair". I wouldn't be surprised if there are huge areanas to fly in. (there were for RL on the cube). it's all wait and see at the moment.

That sentence alone shows you don't know what the fuck you are talking about so please STOP.

:lol

I think many more game developers besides Factor 5 would be interested to hear how they can boost the visuals of their games by using lower res polys.

They obviously don't. This is called LoD.

I wasn't too impressed with the "LAIR" trailer. Certainly not as wowed as the RE5 and From Software stuff.

Looks pretty cool! Though it's not the most amazing next-gen game footage shown so far, IMO. I'm not worried about how any F5 game looks since they've always been good in this area...I'm more concerned with the gameplay as F5 hasn't done a damned thing comes across as a great-playing title, IMO. Here's to hoping that they actually got some interesting gameplay in there.

I'd rather they'd have done a non-raining scene so we can see if the "slimy and shiny" look is because of the rain or because western developers seem to love the "slimy and shiny" thing.

Looks quite nice, but it definitely shows what is attainable right now, unlike the Killzone prerendered video.

Comparing it with kiddy Kameo is blasphemy to F5.

Yep. should be compared to this

I dont think Lair is anything that couldnt be done on 360 tbh.

Thats not to say that it doesnt look great though...nice to see some stuff that actually looks next gen or a change

Count on F5 to provide something beyond exceptional looking, and leave everyone clueless if the gameplay will be worth damn.

Looks like Panzer Dragoon without background graphics. And they really want to sell this in the U.S.?
Next time a generic WW2 shooter is announced, I hope we see you screaming with joy.

No, that should be compared to this...

By what? Surely not the Factor 5 video...

By the whole conference, really. What I saw from Factor 5 is somewhat technically impressive, it just didn't grab me.

I wanted to see more Heavenly Sword. :(

So what have we got for next gen membership?

- bloom lighting? NO

- badly used bumpmapping? NO (pretty nicely used in the closeups)

- hundreds of similiar looking models on screen at once? BINGO!

The lighting is the key for me. I like to see some good lighting, and that opening sequence had it. The scene with the hundreds of dragons was meh, but the closeup showed lighting like in those Project Offset engine vids. Very nice indeed. Now to make a game that doesn't suck from this. :lol PEACE.

I made a comment on this in the "Next popular genre" thread. Since big war battles weren't possible until now, I think we'll see a lot of games like it.

Haven't seen the vid yet but your animated gif seems sort of reminiscent of an old Dragon magazine cover I remember...

I could forget the bits with lots of dragons on the screen at once - though it was probably just the non-directfeedness of it - but everything else was swish. The weather effects look like they could be something special, once we get to see them properly (I loved how the rain rolled off the dragon's eye at the start, for example). What little terrain is there looks really good :P

Seriously, that's easily amongst the best looking realtime stuff we've seen sofar.

Well, obviously it will look more like a real dragon once they work out the schedule to get Draco in the motion capture studio.

Definitely some bad art direction. Animation could use some work too and that glossy sheen and plasticky look of the dragons is very irritating. Still, DRAGONS! I'll keep my eye on it.
