The still image of Luke is some Bruce Lee level stuff.

A lot of this stuff is from fan movies, which I suppose very few have actually seen.

If the editing was not a complete mess, this would be a delightfully misleading fake. Right now, it is a blatant fake.

wow, i thought this was real. where did they get some of the footage like old luke in the jedi robe?

That isn't footage. It's a cheesy effect of putting a still image of Mark Hamill on an actor. You can tell in that his face doesn't move at all.

Hang out with Steve.
One thing that proves it's fake is the X-Wings. In this video, they intakes for the engine nacelles are circular. But the X-Wings in The Force Awakens have semicircular intakes.

Edit: here's a crop from the youtube video:

The best part is the OP posted this after he was already told it was a fake in the star wars thread. Hilarious.

When's the real thing suppose to come out?

The 88 second teaser will be in 30 theaters this weekend. There's currently a question as to whether Lucasfilm/Disney will release an official version online before that.

Either way, there's going to be something up this Holiday weekend. The question is whether it's an HD copy, or it's a cam rip. But something's going to be up.

JJ said it was 88 seconds long. Fake.

why do I have a feeling it's going to be Disney / lucasfilm, text, flashes of images and a logo with sound effects again :(

like the Star Trek transporter sound + logo and the darth breathing for episode I before it

plz be awesome

I was expecting to get rick rolled as that's supposedly making a comeback with fake Star Wars Trailers. I will say that this is a pretty well done fake as most of the scenes looked really great, but the whole thing looked really low-res and kind of off here and there.

People seriously thought this was real even when the black stormtrooper with the shitty clipping cg lightsaber showed up?

I kinda want the opening logos to look something like this...

Nice and basic. oldschool feeling.

I will be surprised if we see a disney logo. Since Lucasfilm operates semi-independently ala Marvel Studios.

My guess is it will open in silence with the Lucasfilm logo, go into the A long time ago screen (still in silence) and then sound comes blasting on as the scroll starts.

Just for traditions sake I can see Abrams leaving out the Bad Robot logo/opening.

There's a pretty good chance you're not going to see a Disney logo.

I absolutely agree. You don't see 'em on the Marvel movies.

But then again, not too often does a Lucasfilm movie start without the logo if its distributor in front of it, either.

Hell, Strange Magic has the Touchstone logo in front of it.

So I dunno.

Main thing I think is to try to keep it as similiar to the iconic openings of the first 6 films as possible. Just cutting out the Fox piece and leaving it all exactly as was before.

Opening with Disney will instantly make people think this is "different" than the rest. Jumping straight to the Lucasfilm logo is a bit easier of a transition I would think.

Word on the street is that the actual trailer's going to be only accompanied by Lucasfilm titles (not Disney, nor even Bad Robot), likely as to not muddle the brand association. Probably the next best thing to having the 20th Century Fox logo in front of it.
