In a recent interview with Famitsu, Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo mentioned the next project in the Ys franchise. Ryokutya2089 revealed this tidbit of information via their online blog.

Details on the specifics of what this game would entail were not yet unveiled, let alone a full name, release platform, or date. However, work on the project, seemingly from its earliest stages, has begun.

The official announcement of the title is still quite a ways off, but plenty of ideas are being brought up and discussed. Further, the team is working on development, ensuring that fans are not kept waiting.

Thanks to Hansuke for bringing this news to fans' attention.

Played Ys Origin, Chronicles, Oath, 7 and 8.

Skipped 9 and 10.

10 I was gonna buy but have to admit the negative/lukewarm reception put me off it. Normally it wouldn't but there were just too many other great games to play.

I skipped 9 as well and was actually about to buy X (liked the demo) when the announcement of the "Proud Nordics" version was made. Now I am waiting for that version instead.

I skip 9 as well, x is fine I think. But i'm still liking older after 2 up to before 7. I finished replaying some few months ago. I think i will need to finish x soon.

Love Ys but haven't got around either 9 or 10 despite having them on the shelf. Thinking of playing Oath of Felghana instead which recently released on Switch and PS.

Still have to play X.
Between that enhanced version they announced and the fact that word of mouth for the game wasn't particularly good around here I've yet to pick it up.
9 was ok but I thought it was a big step down from 8.

Between 8's disastrous launch, late western releases and Proud Nordics getting announced right after X's (late) western release I won't be there day 1 like I used to be. The well has been thoroughly poisoned.

never got into this series, do i have to play all games or is this like FF and every game is a different setting ?

Generally speaking you can pick up any game and be fine. Adol is the main character in all but one game and each game's supporting cast are mostly newcomers; though there are a few characters that appear in multiple games like his best friend Dogi. There are references to things that occur in other games but it's not a big deal if you don't have full knowledge of them. The big difference with the games are the combat mechanics with older games being adventures with just Adol while newer games have a party system where you swap between different characters on the fly.

Origin is a prequel to the entire series and the only game where you don't play as Adol (he can be unlocked though). Ys I and II are the only games directly tied to each other with II literally happening right after the end of I. They are also the only games in the franchise that use the "bump" system for combat which has you running into enemies to attack them. It's weird but it works. Everything after those games have you actively using attacks, magic etc.

Awesome.

Hopefully this is more Ys7 and Y8s and less Y's 9 emo bs, or Y's 10 (while good in tone, the lack of characters and shifting to sailing ruined the flow).

My favorite Y's will always be playing Y's 7 on psp. Then 8 on vita.
i hated Y's 3 on snes, but the remake was good.

Played y's 1 and 2 remakes on psp , and went back to play on my TurboGraphx mini, to see how it was, as I always wanted to play them as a kid, but ys 3 turned me off,
Also we were not rich and getting a cd addon for a game console that cost $399.99 in 1989/1990 money was not happening.

I do hope someday we get a remaster, remake or port of Y's 5 , the one game we did not get in the states.

Long time Ys player. I've enjoyed pretty much all the entries in the series, and I appreciate it when they try something new. I will admit that Ys X took some time for me to enjoy. The new combat system felt completely weird. It was like playing Sekiro after being a Dark Souls player. Similar feeling combat, but can't be played the same way. Ship combat the game also felt... odd. Its barebones and "there", ultimately if it was missing, you probably wouldn't miss much.
If you struggle with Ys X and its combat, its most likely because you're trying to play it like Ys VIII or IX. The games mechanics rely heavily on building a multiplier, countering and triggering the skills from the duo combat system they implemented.
I hope they either:
A. Refine this combat to feel a bit better or less like the previous Ys game's combat, or
B. Do a better job at explaining and teaching the players how to properly play.

Beyond that, making a "Proud" version was a bit of a slap in the face from them. Having just finished the game a couple weeks prior to the announcement felt kind of bad. I haven't looked into it since so maybe this is the case, but I think one way they can make this better is offer the Proud version additions as something you can get for the base game you initially purchased. I just hope they don't do this again.

Ys IX wasn't bad, it was an interesting approach, and I think the main thing was being locked to the city, with the same "grey" aesthetics really made it feel off. Combat was the same as prior entries, and they recycled the raid fights from Ys VIII to an even more forgettable format. All in all it was like playing VIII again with less memorable characters, story, and world. A solid "Okay" of a game for me.

I hope this next entry is Ys V as its the only game that HASN'T been remade, nor has the entry ever made it to the west officially. Ys XI is also fine. Just please, no Proud versions.

Only a few games are directly connected to each other such as Ys 1 and Ys 2 (And to some extent Origin). Otherwise you can pick up any game and not have to worry about missing out on anything. There may be a few references in dialogs of past adventures from other games, but nothing that would impact your enjoyment of the game and its current story in the moment. The only real reoccurring characters are usually Adol himself, and Dogi his friend who he met back in the first game.

X is actually very good…but at this point you might as well wait for the "proud" version in English.

Hopefully they got good feedback on the missteps they took with X.

Neat. But I hope they don't pull a "Proud"-version again this time.
I'm also not a fan of these stand alone expanded editions, I might get it only if NISA is smart enough to offer an upgrade path for Proud. Otherwise it's an easy skip.

Anyway, happy to see that the new Ys is in development. The game feel of Ys has yet to be replicated. The combat system of Ys X was really fun so I hope they keeping improving and expanding on that.

EDIT: Also, don't skip Ys IX. Most fun I had with modern Ys by far.

I hope they do, I held off on Nordics for the proud version.

Why can pstudio get away with it but not falcom?
The problem is that Falcom announced the Proud version just after the Western release of Ys X vanilla and basically fucked NISA over. Atlus manage that full-price enhanced-edition shit far better.

Lol, that was my first thought.

We're still waiting on that, right? I bought the "Day 1" edition or whatever the deluxe release on PC was called, and I still haven't played it because they announced that shit like a week later. Poor form (though I doubt NIS is really to blame for it).

Yeah, we're still waiting for an official Western release of the Proud version. Don't know who is really to blame here, to be honest. I feel that if Falcom cared, they would've told NISA about this enhanced version and maybe ask them to just wait for that instead of working on the vanilla Ys X. Or maybe NISA said "fuck it, we're doing vanilla Ys X anyway". I like to believe that Falcom didn't talk to NISA and just announced the Proud version and NISA went "what the fuck".
