I like how pizzaroll goes to great lengths to discredit me. I said art and animation. If you think the animation in that gif looks good in motion, then good for you.

Don't take it personally. Some people in here really don't like it when opinions don't match with theirs.

I thought that stuff was incredibly poor in Penguindrum. When you're doing shots with random background characters they really should never stick out unless there is a reason for them to stick out. What Penguindrum did had the completely opposite effect it was probably going for. Dezaki did the same thing, it was terrible then and its still terrible now.

Dennou Coil Episode 05

What a boss.

Not as awesome as the previous episode, still pretty damn good so far.

I wish I could go back in time and watch Dennou Coil again for the first time.
What a travesty that it was never released here.

It's okay. Don't ever talk animation with Pizzaroll. He'll blast you and say he's never wrong. It was my first rage moment in AnimeGAF. Just avoid it.

I'm not even sure why you are trying to reassure him, that post and pretty much every other post he's made in this thread, proves he's really just a troll out for attention.

Hell, not to mention he completely changed the subject, pizzaroll wasn't even RESPONDING to him about that particular point.

Pizzaroll sometimes issues forth a big ball of WRONG so its best to just nod your head and move on.
He is right sometimes of course. Sometimes.

There was something beyond the animation? I must not have noticed.

I wish I hadn't noticed; then perhaps I would have been able to enjoy it more than I did. Although I'm not even fond of the character designs. Actually my favorite thing about the film was all the fantastically detailed 80s mechanical design.

I didn't change the subject. He was asking me what I was referring to. Maybe he should actually watch the episode before commenting.

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun 02:

This is just damned amazing. I'm kind of at a loss for words. How can they cram so much fun into a single episode? I'm not even going to try to critically analyze the episode right now. Too busy wallowing in the afterglow. Characterization so good. Art and direction so good. Comedy, chemistry and character interaction so very, very good. And to top it all off,
the most casual confession ever
. Just what heights is this going to reach?

Me thinks it's down to how you structured your post (I was going to make a similar comment).

Yes you did mention art and animation, but then you posted a gif with normal proportions and then talked about chibi art hence Pizzaroll's reaction.

Theres one particular moment, after the missiles are launched that was straight up action-porn. Like the idealized vision of a Macross dog fight...

Personally my idealized version of a Macross dog fight isn't CGI. That scene wasn't bad though.

I apologize for the confusion caused.

Hahaha, that's a really nice troll one.
As you posted one WEG from Sound of the Sky, I've remembered one video I saw that wanted to post (for you or anyone else that likes this series, that is) but forgot after not being around for a whole month; Tomoyuki Aoki (http://alarcon.web.fc2.com/), who has been sometimes credited as Alarcón (name of a Spanish town in Cuenca) like in the recent SENGOKU COLLECTION, has been uploading himself videos of his setting/art design work:

ソ・ラ・ノ・ヲ・ト sora no wo to TV animation - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYOybU3UCGE

I hope he does it more frequently because I like very much what he makes!

An additional and not very interesting but amusing for me (at least) anecdote... if some people say Sound of the Sky reminds them of M*A*S*H a bit, I'll counterattack with an Spanish TV series from 1997 called La banda de Pérez (http://www.titovalverde.es/sites/default/files/imagecache/galeria_lightbox/La-banda-de-Perez.jpg)! I hope someone gets his reference...

No man. I'm pretty sure KYH is one of the highlights of AW. Not some turd named Haruyuki.

Kuroyukihime may have differentiated herself among other female characters this year but to put her above Haruyuki and Taku is just odd. I like seeing characters toil away and rise to go against their internal struggles and dilemmas bettering themselves as they are developed. Kuroyukihime unfortunately did nothing of that sort making her not as good as Haru and Taku, hopefully she gets some development next season, as Haru and Taku continue to improve themselves in ways that I cant even begin to image.

Wow the show actually acknowledged the fact that any "romantic" scene between Kirito and Asuna is the world's greatest cure for insomnia.

This was probably the best episode the show has had so far, just because CSI Aincrad is more interesting than everything else that's happened so far. At least until this happened:

Wow, brilliant theory Sherlock. I wish Oreki was there to verbally slap her for her stupidity.
Oh, too late, lol.

That was excellent. David Production is still a bit disappointing, but they do a fairly great job of working around their weakness.

Art and animation are wildly inconsistent -- cheap and stilted in some scenes, and expressive and weighty in others. Thankfully, they save the latter for the tense sequences. I can deal with lacking animation during dialogue.

As for the colors, I appreciate that they're seemingly trying to be faithful to Araki's palette but they often haphazardly throw neons into a scene without regard for the context.

Closeups are where David really gives it their all, at least in terms of style. The line art given much more effort, the colors utilized are given much more consideration, and often the scenes are embellished with interesting texture usage.

I can't wait to see more.

Oh and Roundabout as the ED is pretty awesome too.

That's pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. :)

I do find it somewhat amusing that photo-referencing seems to be a frowned upon practice among western comic book artists (it's basically tracing!) but in Japan, people will just go to a place and take use as much reference as possible. I still think Sora no Woto's town looks great because, well, it's an actual town that exists in our world.

Also, I don't know who compared it to M*A*S*H... but yeah, that makes perfect sense now that I think about it. lol

Magi 01

This show is off to a good start, first episode shows a lot of promise. I'll keep watching.

Chuunibyou 01

Awesome, probably my favorite first episode this season.
