Last night I decided to make The Castle my primary headquarters. So, I spent over an hour manually moving everything I've collected in the game so far (which was housed in Sanctuary) to The Castle. I broke down every item in Sanctuary and moved the Junk to The Castle.

Then I went to the Drive In Theater and did the same thing. Broke down every item and then manually moved all that scrap into the Workbench at The Castle.

My plan is to do this for every settlement so that I have a ridiculous amount of building material at The Castle so I can make the ultimate community there.

Is this a dumb idea? I don't want a bunch of little settlements... I just want ONE AWESOME SETTLEMENT!

Do you mean you just carry water around to heal with instead of buying stimpacks? I would have thought you would be selling all that extra water for caps and then spending the caps on stimpacks, unique items, etc.
seems like a bit of a waste of time if you can get the local leader perk, it lets you assign people to supply-line stuff from one settlement to another. So you can just share resources for building things across multiple settlements.

You don't have to cart the stuff around to the workbench at Castle if you use Local Leader perk to make trade routes between all the settlements. So much easier.

I thought about doing that but:

A) I don't have that perk yet
B) Apparently the Provisioners can die; cutting off the supply lines
C) Supply lines don't share stored items; only the junk. So if you put a bunch of guns in the workbench to be broken down, those don't show up in other workbenches.
D) Not all of my other settlements have a person. Most have zero people and I want to keep it that way! I don't want to be bothered by annoying requests.

Also, fixing the castle walls is definitely best with Concrete Shack Floor blocks on top of each other.

Thanks for the tip!

Was at the top of a building? Had to fight a sentry bot and assultron? I heard that the armor will scale to your level so if you go to early the armor might downgrade?

I cant confirm this because I went at like level 28 and it was X-01 when I got it.

No, it wasn't there. But after having the power armor swap on me, I got frustrated and went to the location you're talking about and actually did find the full X-01 set, so I'm good. I'm level 29.

Do you get any good items for completing settlement stuff? So far I've just done some basic stuff and fixed up Home Plate. Idk, I can see the appeal, but I just havent really dug into it yet. Too many quests to do!

Nah, now I've got the trophy I either ignore the settlements, or if I'm passing by, maybe kill everyone living there.

The voice actor for him great and I think the writing and design for some of the out of the way side stuff has been strong so far.

I'm so addicted to this game, sitting here at work just itching to get home to play.

It usually goes like this, load up the game, I decide to do a quest and fast travel to the nearest point. While I'm making my way to the quest marker I spot something else, clear out that place, encumbered, travel back to Sanctuary Hills, improve my base, do the same thing over again.

I think I've put in like 30-40 hours, loving it so far. There is so much to do and see, holy shit.

Man, the crafting/farming/building stuff is a huge turn off for me. Please tell me later on I can just loot good weapons and armor. I am honestly just about to write this game off as 'not for me'

I have no clue on how to make power armor and honestly have zero interest in doing so

So I had BoS Danse ask me to join but I told him "Not now', as I had a lot on my plate but was going to get back to him Well the actual BoS has shown up now. Will this disrupt any quests he was going to give me? Like will he still ask me to join the BoS?

Settlement Questions:

1) So Walls do not add Defensive points (Which doesn't make sense, but whatever), if you have walled your town completely off, can they get in? Can they jump smaller obstacles? Sanctuary is completely surrounded (Looks like Alexandria from the TWD

2)I've seen people mention sending settlers to settlements. How do we do this again? I need to send out settlers from Sanctuary..but all I have there right now is NPC's.

You don't have to craft/ farm anything. Later on enemies drop custom crafted weapons, the higher the level the better the mods.

I don't see why so many people think this stuff is required, you don't have to mess with it at all.

You'll be fine. You might not be able to complete a Danse quest until you move forward (1 quest) with the Brotherhood side, though.

You can find mods at shops and you can find amazing shit just out there. You do not have to rely on crafting at all.

I still keep expecting him to offer his sister for sale.

You get good weapons via quests and fighting legendary creatures. I killed a legendary ghoul during a random settlement attack and he dropped a unique shot gun.

Also some shops sell unique weapons.

So for settlements, how do attacks go? Do you only get a certain amount of time? Can NPCs die?

Yes, I failed an attack becayuse I didn't go there in time.

Not sure about NPC's dying, because I just reloaded when I saw I had missed an attack.

If i had a complaint it is, I didn't know It was being attacked until it was too late..a small notice pops up (text), but I feel like it should be a bigger notice.

I will keep banging away then. They are a little heavy on that stuff early game that I was worried that was going to be how the whole things goes.
the base building stuff is really just a tutorial for if you want to do it, pretty optional after that little quest. although, i wouldn't write off modding weapons, pretty simple just to go to the weapons bench and see if you have the mats to upgrade to a different grip or barrel. Can keep a gun relevant for awhile until you find a better one.

the building has zero to do with the loot or armor. and you dont build power armor you find it. it bagffles me how the building scares so many people away when you do like a couple of tutorial quests and you never have to touch it again until late in the game for another quest (and thats just to build a quest...thing)

Just ignore it all then! Seriously. There is a tutorial quest to get a settlement up and running but I just did it when I felt like it. Didn't complete it for about 30 hours after starting and it's one of the very first quests you get. As for crafting armor/weapons, you can find custom gear from vendors/enemies. For example, I had a modded out Rifle but just there the now visited a vendor and he had a much better Rifle so I sold him my old one and bought the new one. So, you can easily play through without modding anything. In my case it was a waste of time/resources even modding my gun or armor.

As for Power armor...well apart from a very early mission I haven't used it. I did find some new parts for it but eh...I don't see the use of it right now.

Don't let it put you off. All this stuff is just there if you want it. You can play through without having to build/mod anything.

The 3 times I've gotten the message, it was 3 waves of 4 at least on sanctuary.

You will fail if you wait to long to respond. Like an ingame week or so.

I have defientky had an NPC die at my first attack on the first farm the game sends you too. I did however respond to that one really late, as in I saw I failed it, reloaded an auto and went there immediately and one was already dead.

I've had one of the named settlers die. Was a kidnapping and I just couldn't be bothered, now they talk about the daughter at the farm being killed.

Is this game a "micro management" game at times? Like with having to keep settlers alive, farm resources and such even when not playing? I hate to have to keep an eye and worry about people dying if I don't help them or have to constantly be defending or helping settlers and such.

Is there a faster way to break down my junk I know im missing something obvious I've been taking stuff individually dropping it then breaking it down.

You can 100% ignore that part of the game if you want. It can just be you, your dog, a suit of power armor and a sledge hammer if you want it to be.

You can transfer all junk to the workshop bench and when you need the materials in them to craft something it'll auto break them down.

Yes.

I feel that i've kind of over extended myself, with the possible number of settlements that I have to intervene. Thankfully its not round the clock attacks. But I feel my starlight drive in with its 2 industrial water purifiers will be attracting attacks soon. For the most part..if there are no attacks..they just go about their business.

Woops Edit: no, no diasters happen when you are not playing..the only annoying this is if raider attacks become a problem While playing.

Nothing will happen when you're not playing.

Otherwise, yes. Someone said, hopefully jokingly, that you need to get all settlements to 100% happiness to get the good ending. That's a tall order.

You'll get calls constantly to help defend multiple different settlements, or radial quests to help them solve some issue or another. You lose resources and happiness when you fail to do so. It's pretty annoying. I don't know how the game resolves and calculates these conflicts, and if building walls or gates or whatever helps at all.

You don't need to do that if you don't want to. I don't bother with the settlements. I'm just exploring the world like any other open world game and having fun killing enemies. All this building/modding/farming stuff is just there to give it a bit of depth I guess. I play it no differently to the way I played Fallout 3/NV

Nothing happens when you're away from the game. However, before I finish playing for the night I'll visit my settlements and distribute new weapons/armor for the day, collect resources (purified water/plants/etc) and make sure my bigger settlements are doing ok.

I don't think I'm the norm, though. I just like the settlement stuff. What I'm doing is completely optional, but gives me an advantage in the game (never really starving for caps, unlimited healing resources, etc.)

Anyone having problems linking the pip boy mobile app with the game?

Win10, firewall is off and both devices on same network. App can't find my game though. I have also turned on the option in the game menu

If anyone can answer these questions, that would be awesome :)

I had to turn off firewalls, enable in game, then relaunch the game.

Oh! so I have to link my settlements to get access to all my stuff? That makes a bit more sense. one more thing can the person I asine to do this can they be killed by the wasteland mid trip?

If there is a door or opening I'm sure they can get in. To send a settler to other towns as a provisions you need 1 point in local leader perk (under charisma). Then you in build mode you go up to a settler, select them, press a button (I think it's l1 or r1 on the ps4, you can see at the bottom of the screen for the button action that says trade route), then the list of all your settlements shows up and you just select one. That settler will start going between the settlement it originates from and the one you picked and the workbench junk between those two pages will be shared
