How would that run Fallout 4? Would I have to buy Windows to play Fallout 4?

I too am hoping for a fix. it's super noticeable when getting up close to things. Fraps says I am not wavering from 60 but it feels fucking awful.

Do you mean the stuttering indoors when turning around? That's what I'm getting and it's awful but I don't get it outdoors.

Given the AMD impressions in this thread, I'm guessing there's no Day1/Week1 drivers for AMD cards this go round?

Actually off the top of my head I can't even remember when's the last time they've done something like that for a specific title.

4 days ago for Black Ops III was the last time they've done something like that. Hopefully we get one soon for FO4.

I'm running fallout 4 on the mid-tier Alienware alpha (i5, 8gb ram) using the high preset with shadows turned down a notch (basically the digital foundary recommended settings for their budget PC).

Runs pretty well- mostly above 30 with just a few dips indoors. Looks good too. Well impressed.

After the driver release, I'm getting 60fps (with the odd minor drop) at 4K. With G-Sync it's immaculate so far.

Before the driver it was stuttery and awful.

Yep that's the stuff. I do notice it a bit too if I were to run and the look up and down at the ground while running. It's mainly an indoors only thing though.

I've been getting weird stuttering when walking anywhere...was particularly noticeable in the first vault. Felt like every few steps it would jump (even though fraps wasn't registering a frame drop). Tried low settings to no avail. PC is a 970 on a 2500k. Am reinstalling onto my backup SSD to see if that is an issue.

I am thinking of switching to PC...but my PC is shit.

Is this better than the console experience ?

AMD 1045t 2,7 GHz,
HIS Radeon R9 270 iCooler Boost Clock, 2GB GDDR5
4GB DDR3 RAM,

Probably not, going by the minimum requirements...

Jeff talked about how bad it is on PS4 at the end.

Was so excited to play that I entirely forgot to install the drivers. I'm still averaging around 50FPS on my GTX 760, AMD FX-6300, and 8GB RAM rig. Very pleased with performance.

Ok, was getting solid 60 fps ever where. Just got to an area about 3 hours in, and I'm getting between 30-40 fps constantly. God damnit.

Yeah, locking up at computers still happens at 90 fps cap. Seems likely going above 60 is the culprit, haven't had it happen since locking it.

Posted in the DF thread. But should be better here:

Game is running great on my Xeon1230v3/GTX770 combo.

Mixture of High/Ultra (Godrays Low, Motion Blur and Lensflare off). 1080p, TAA/16AF.

60FPS with minor dips when many NPCs appear (Worst case was 45-50fps for a short time during the evacuation scene in the intro).

VRAM on ultra textures = 1,7GB.

Great stuff on my 3 year old machine. Looking forward to play some Fallout tomorrow^^

Oddly enough, it's performing great with my AMD processor, at least. FX-8320 + GTX 970 is smooth on ultra.

Screenshots from DeadEndThrills. Not bad.

Lowering god rays to high boosted pretty much locked by FPS to 60. But progressing through the game and now, I'm now to the 50's again in certain areas.

980ti @ 2560x1440

Guess I'm gonna have to drop it to 1080p for a bit while trying to figure this out.

I've been experiencing large framedrops in certain areas of the game. In fact, they look like the same locations the consoles are getting their stuttering/frame drops. FPS go as low as the high 20's in the worst areas. Outside of that a smooth 60FPS. One area in particular is the Corvega plant where you have to clear the area of bandits for the nearby traders.

Specs
GPU: GTX 970
CPU: Core i7 860
RAM: 16Gb DDR 3
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO
OS: Windows 10 Pro

This engine is such piece of shit.
There are some quite assets and details here and there, but technology is just subpar.
I think only volumetric lighting and PBR is somehow saving presentation of this game, but watching most lights do not cast shadows is just not acceptable in 2015.
Game also doesnt feel smooth at all even at 60. It badly needs camera motion blur ;/

I don't see too many AMD impressions here, so if I can get it to run later I'll let you guys know what I get. I've got 2 all AMD systems to test so should be interesting.

FX-9590, R9 290, 16GB 1866, and A8-6600K @ 4.7, 7970, 8GB 2400.

This has probably been brought up already but how the hell is the minimum GPU a 550 Ti or 7870? Those 2 cards aren't anywhere near each other in terms of performance.

My 7870 defaulted to ultra settings, so something's not right with the minimum specs.

What's the most taxing settings behind god rays? When I get into crowded areas, I drop to about 40fps. Don't know what setting to lower that will most maintain visual quality.

Has anyone else encountered a huge bug which makes you stuck in place after interacting with the first computer terminal in the game?

Sorry, Bethesda, but this is not good enough ... :(

Are my interactions with the first computer terminal representative of the polish I can expect going forward?
I got stuck at that one. And the next.
Yep that happened to me in the first building in the first main town.
Yep, and the same thing has happened with every terminal I've interacted with so far.

Not a great first impression.
I've had it happen to 3 different computers. Quick save before using any.

Someone said earlier it might be tied to high FPS, which may be true as I'm generally 100ish in areas it happend to me at. Might need to force a lower FPS in Rivatuner since there's no way to manually cap it in the game and I'm on a 144hz monitor.

Ok, ok, Bethesda, so the engine didn't work out with high frame rates this time either. Why not make a statement to help people? What is the benefit of having 10% of your fans on PC running into this shit and being disappointed?

Have the decency to admit that the game doesn't support high frame rates. Provide an in-game frame limiting option (to which you can attach your sincere apology for failing to support modern computer displays). Is it really so hard?

What exactly does the motion blur setting do for the game then, if it doesn't add camera motion blur? Per-object? I don't see that being a feature.

I have yet to see anyone report otherwise, but it probably turns on and off radial blur. Screen directional blur when an explosion happens near the camera or when you get damaged?

AKA, not motion blur. Pretty disingenuous of that blog post tbh. It is not even visually different from the stuff in skyrim... let laone fo3 really.

I have the following:

Radeon HD 7870 Extreme
Intel i5 3570
16GB of DDR3
Windows 10

What kind of settings should I run to get a solid 60FPS?

Thanks!

Yeah, it is down for me as well. Perhaps they have to change something and they are going to update it again?

I hope it is not too much work for Andy if that is the case. Those guides seem like they must take a long time and a lot of patience.

I imagine the freecam which also stops everything from moving is a godsend.

Getting the odd weird frame drop in places.Other than that great.Haven't played all that much yet though.

Skylake 6600k
980ti
8gb ram.

For the past few hours I've been playing at a constant 1080/60 with everything except Godrays on Ultra, that's on High, now I've got to an area where it drops to 40ish but dropping the Godrays to medium has fixed everything. It's smooth as butter, everywhere... so far. Maybe I'll find somewhere else that tanks the framerate later on.

  • i7 2600k
  • GTX 970
  • 8GB RAM
  • Windows 7
The game is soooooo much fun now it actually plays like a top tier shooter. Slowing down VATS instead of pausing is also a brilliant idea, keeps the combat flowing. Loving everything about it so far, really, really good.

I am getting weird hitching and pauses when running around and fighting in third person. The framerate doesn't budge but it feels like the right stick on my controller stops working for a split second, and I know my pad is fine. It doesn't do it in first person. Really weird.

Its probably radial blur from Skyrim ;/

About SSR.
Water does have SSR, but its really low angle and seems quite low quality:

Some floors does reflect environment, but not all textures and shaders on them
I have not found any example of SSR on surfaces other than floor.

I have about the same system as you (only an 870 instead of an 860)so I am curious about some more impressions of you. What settings do you play on for example?

Sounds good. How are you handling vsync in the nvidia control panel (and also in game), and are you playing full screen or borderless?

Just drop godrays to medium, or even low. The performance gain is insane, and the visual impact is rarely every noticeable.
