Not that great for Bleach or Shadows but decent enough for Xeno and Atelier. Hardware is lowwwwwww.

Tomodachi means Switch will still get strong sellers in its 10th year.

Soon the PS4 will outsell the Series X
That's brutal. :ROFLMAO:
Playstation 5 Pro Portable (PS5PP) will save Playstation in Japan!!!
Well the PS5 is still profitable for Sony in Japan. It just needs a price cut and the flood gates will open for ps5 sales to rise
XCX DE deserves even higher sales
Yes, I agree, it is still low for XCX. It is a very good game.
MH falling down the charts quicker than I would have expected.

Console sales are dead. Will PS5 even reach 7 million? God knows how low it would be without those sent to China.
Yes, if price cut happens. Ps5 is really expensive in Japan.

How do retailers justify even keeping stock of xbox console in japan?

There has to come a point where they decide the warehouse/shelfspace is better served for somthing else.

But then again it's probably not taking much space with demand being low and reatilers adjusting stock levels.

The Switch soft landing and PS5 back to the reality. Monster Hunter Wilds is going is going to be out of the top 10 in a record time for the franchise.

Launch:
Xenoblade 2 - 97274
Xenoblade DE - 90789
Xenoblade 3 - 112728
Xenoblade X - 74689

Unless the digital split is much higher for Xenoblade X, it's a decent result but quite a bit lower than the main series.

It’ll get back in when the Switch 2 version launches.

I would rather Capcom do a specific MH game for the switch to be honest, like they did with MH Rise. I think custom tailoring a MH game for the Switch 2 instead of trying to figure out how to get Wilds running on it would be the better approach.

PS5 Pro will save PS5 in Japan
Monster Hunter Wilds will save PS5 in Japan

Ghost of Yōtei will save PS5 in Japan

Also extremely disappointing sales for Xenoblade here

It likely did with digital, but I do think the retail sales are a bit weak.
Yeah I’m certain it did better overall when you account for digital, but still.

Same, I’d always prefer a new game instead of a downgraded port.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we get a port this time though.

Xenoblade games generally have had a 50 % digital sales split in Japan, if that holds true for Xenoblade X as well it means Xenoblade X sold around 150K at release in Japan.

Portable will help somewhat but software is the main issue. They just don't have the exclusive multi million sellers they had on other Sony platforms.

Would’ve thought Xenoblade Chronicles X would sell better than the WiiU version out of the gate given the user base.
There is probably a decent amount of people who bought the original that won't buy a re-release, like myself.

Japan’s gaming tastes have changed since then. The major franchises of yesterday are not so big anymore. It’s mostly Nintendo franchises, f2p, and mobile that dominate.

I guess, but the difference in user bases is staggering. At the time, WiiU had sold around 2M units.

Comparatively, Switch is at 35M units sold.

So the user base on Switch is roughly 18 times larger, yet the (physical) launch sales for XBCX is lower.

Where is the source of that information? If this can be a good debut then.
Nintendo releases full shipments for first party games in Japan, so we can get a good idea of digital %s based on price.

Yes that's the issue Sony has. Final Fantasy, Dynasty Warriors, Resident Evil etc. simply aren't what they once were.

The franchises which are still big are either shared with Nintendo or Nintendo exclusive. And the new or growing franchises tend to be Nintendo exclusive too.

What Sony needs is more things like Elden Ring or Ghost of Tsushima.

The PS5 price, no portable, and less Japanese PS5 only games will do that. But it's still doing well in Japan.

Seems kind of underwhelming. Even the Wii U version sold 85K its first weekend.

There’s some pretty hilarious cope over at the Xenoblade subreddit. “It’s a niche series”, “mecha genre is niche”, “it’s a port of a 10 year old Wii U game”, “Switch 2 is coming soon” etc.

PS5 is on its way to sell around the same as PS4 and PS3. So basically Playstation consoles since 2006. That's 20 years. That is with 3 price increases, etc... instead of price decreases.

Some of you keep repeating this when is almost a fact that big % of PS5 sold in Japan before the price increase landed in the China’s gray market, also the games sales situation is really bad compared to the PS4 or the PS3… and launch aligned the PS5 console sales are already below the PS4. The PS5 situation in Japan is nothing like the PS4 or the PS3 was in the same time frame, especially for the software. Sony knows that and doesn’t care if the console sales well or not and that’s why the price increase. China is saving the PS5 in Asia.

Install base doesn't really matter that much for niche games like this. The kind of people that would want to buy that game are also likely the kind of people who would buy a Wii U. The millions more Switch owners are getting it for games like Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, etc.
I think Tokyo Mirage Sessions, the Switch version sold less than the Wii U version too.

The first sentence is also true for other systems launched in Japan.

Also, I don't think that Sony cares if China is selling more than Japan atm.

You have no idea what the % is. All consoles have lots of units that end up in China. Guess what's gonna happen with Switch 2 as well?

also the games sales situation is really bad compared to the PS4 or the PS3

That's because you only care for Famitsu charts which:
- Only cover physical "sales";
- PS3 basically all sales were physical. PS4 had a lot more physical sales than digital. Both consoles didn't have digital console skus as well;
- PS5 has literally a sku that has sold close to 1M consoles that only allows for digital copies of games sold...which Famitsu doesn't cover. And you have no idea what the % of overall PS5 digital games are sold currently in Japan;
- Around 15% of all PS5 owners can't buy physical games...which Famitsu doesn't care for;
- Famitsu isn't true sales. They are actually predictions from them and they have managed to get A LOT of wrong info throughout the years:

and launch aligned the PS5 console sales are already below the PS4. The PS5 situation in Japan is nothing like the PS4 or the PS3 was in the same time frame, especially for the software. Sony knows that and doesn’t care if the console sales well or not and that’s why the price increase. China is saving the PS5 in Asia.

PS5 is also the first console to ever have like 3 price increases during a single generation in Japan.

Dude...Japan is LITERALLY the 2nd biggest market for PS5 in terms of consoles sold. I don't think the UK or any other european countries have PS5 at above 6.7M consoles sold lmao.
Saying Sony doesn't care about its second biggest market in consoles sold is sure...something.

Namco Bandai just announced 2 Japanese Sony IP releases today. They make deals with countless developers for stuff like Final Fantasy, Rise of the Ronin, Monster Hunter, etc...they really can't do much more if the market isn't giving them Switch-level sales. If Nintendo was releasing home consoles only you really think Switch would have done as well as it did? (also Covid)

This gen is going to be longer than the past gen as well...and there's a lot of games still to be released. Possibly price-decreases to happen as well.

Yeah, I agree with that.

I still find it pretty interesting though. You’d also think it’d sell more just due to the fact that the franchise has grown/ gotten multiple new installments by this point. I’d think the fan base is bigger now.

But I guess X is an outlier within its own franchise considering how different it is to the rest.

Hope Sony has a plan b & c for japan as now monster hunter is settling down they desperately need something new to cause another sales spike as once switch 2 drops they are officially screwed. If one switch on the market is putting up this amount of competition imagine how bad it’s going to be with two switch models.

Xbox is completely dead in Japan. No change from other generations there.

Ps5 is worse than I could have guessed.

It shows how the high price of PS5 is hurting its sales potential in Japan. It shouldn't be possible for the MH Wilds boost in sales to only hold some weeks and then sell half compared to the soon to be replaced Switch.

ah yes, considering PS4 was already lower than PS3 and PS5 might be likely lower than PS4, great achievement !

And yes, don't get me wrong for Sony even with these less sales they are more profitable given the costs, so I wasn't approaching this from an "economical" standpoint.
