MGS maybe 100k with digital on PS5?

I'd say perhaps a okay to good launch (dev costs can't be too high given it's a FF7 Crisis Core style remake to a large extent) and they'll make a nice profit from global sales.

But still 100-300k sales around 5-10 years ago would have been considered a flop I think.

It's just that now the expectations are lower because Playstation is running on fumes in Japan.

Guess it shows how bad things are for PS5 when a game selling 60k seems good.
Yeah. Maybe an MGS6 would've done way better though, I have no idea how much being a remake plays into these sales.
On the other hand, even the remake of Persona 3 did better so I dunno.

True. Some desperately needs to cut PS5 price in Japan and release PSP next gen asap in Japan.
Problem is playstation leadership are spineless they just dancing to the tune of totoki, who would rather sell his family then drop the ps5 price to appease shareholders.

They have no one left that is interested in competing in japan. Japan is a huge market but the idiots want to coast with these pathetic sales.

There last chance in Japan is the rumoured handheld, but they will need some games to go with that that cater to Japan.

I don't think a handheld is enough, but I got your point.

They need software to appeal to the japanese market.
Sony really needs to bring back Japan Studio exclusives AA and A games. It is an insult to Sony that in there home country, there console sales and games are not good and beaten so badly by Switch1 and 2. I understand that Nintendo is always the prefered gaming platform in Japan but not this big of a lead from ps5. It's a massacre.

Three things Sony must do:

1. Big Ps5 price cut
2. More Japan centric games especially by reviving Japan Studio
3. Bring PSP next gen asap in Japan.

MGS5 did like 300k on the PS4, when the PS4 install base was less than 2 million.
Have to say, between this and the Steam numbers I'm worried Konami with shelf the series again. Maybe it's sold around 1m? They weren't even happy with Kojima taking his time on MGSV which inevitably sold 5m pretty quickly. A remake is obviously cheaper in many respects but I wonder how much given game dev costs have skyrocketed since then.

If Sony doesn't adopt a handheld model, it just might be.

They certainly need better approachs since I don't think Japan isn't going for Sony graphic fetish anymore. Also their line up is incredibly dry and unnapealing for Japan. Astrobot was a start in the right direction, but going for just one or two will not move much. Also disgusting games like deceased Concord and Marathon will do more brand damage than good.
