Minecraft Legends was a bomba. In Japan at least. Well, it did look boring, so it adds up.

And PS5 down considerably this week. This one might be because of Golden Week that starts Friday, so it might mean nothing. Next week we will see.

But god, PS5 software situation just seems to get worse, doesn't it? No games on top 10, and the lowest selling game on the chart is at 3700, wgich means the best PS5 game is doing less than that. And yet, hardware does 41k. This situation makes zero sense.

Other than that, nothing really exciting of note. Switch slightly up this week, but its still around what it has been doing for months now.

Switch should have a nice boost during golden week with the release of the Zelda: TOTK themed Oled.

Was any ps5 game released this week?
Why do people (you) keep ignoring that half a million ps5 sold in Japan so far are digital only and that probably around 50% of the other one have people buying digital games? Famitsu charts are irrelevant to check game sales specially when one platform has a sku without physical media

So you say that 90% or more of the games sold in Japan are digital, a split no place on the planet has yet achieved? And that happened in Japan, a place known for to still pretty much give preference to physical?
I didn't say none of that just pointing out that the people buying consoles without games could be downloading games

Ah, now the charts are irrelevant to software, since PS5 software is doing poorly there?

lol

But the scalping angle is all conspiracy theory, but software? Noooooo, famitsu is irrelevant, because 20% of the consoles are digital only!!!

Yeah sure, there are 500k digital only consoles sold on the Japan. But there are 2.5 million PS5 sold that accept physical copies. And last time I checked, 2.5 million is much higher than 500k, and that Japan was a country that favored physical over digital. So what are those 2.5 million PS5 users doing with their consoles? Because if they were only going to buy digital copies, they would have bought the digital console, no?

And yeah, PS5 didn't have any new games this week. But neither did the Switch, and yet their games show. Where are the PS5 evergreens? GT 7? God Of War Ragnarok? RE 4 Remake? If PS5 situation in Japan was so healthy in Japan, those games would have better legs, or at least Sony would have one or two evergreens showing up on the charts. But nothing.

So, what is it? Are you really saying that PS5 in Japan has the biggest digital split in the entire world, so much so that almost everyone in Japan buys digital exclusively?

Do you really believe that? Or is this just console warring for you?

They could, but using the same logic, they could have bought PS5 and do nothing with them.

So what seems more logical: The country with a split that favors physical buying almost exclusively digital, or using the hard numbers we get from Famitsu, professionals on their fields, and come to the conclusion that very few PS5 games are being bought?

Yeah. Just goes to show how hipocritic most Sony fans are in this thread. They don't care about discussing sales numbers and the overall situation in Japan. They only want to shut up any discussion that doesn't paint Sony in a good light.

When people talk about the weird PS5 software sales, they are taking digital into account. Even with a 50% or even 60% digital share, its still odd.

To put things into context, for week 15 in Spain PS5 sold 7,000 units (both models) and is at 125,000 year to date. And we saw at least 3 games sell at least 1,000 copies.

And this week in Japan we saw the PS5 with a disk drive sell 33,500 units, yet no game sold over 4,000 copies.

We'll get a better picture when the top 30 comes out tomorrow, but it is weird.

You need to understand that Switch is such a big portion of sales in Japan & being a handheld with small cartridges that can easily be taken with you is a lot different from buying disc that's a lot less convenient now.

So you look at the numbers & say they favor physical but it's really Switch influencing this outlook on its own & don't tell you much about PS5.

Show me the digital to physical game sales ratio for Playstation consoles in Japan please.
How do you know that the bolded part is true for Sony consoles? Switch usually has a much higher physical sales than digital AND they have a console that has sold 30M units.
PS5 has 2.5M units sold that actually accepts physical games. Add to that the fact that PS users have a bigger digital attach ratio than Nintendo users...how can you say with a straight face that Famitsu is the way to go to read Playstation software sales when possibly more than half of the games sold for PS5 in Japan aren't counted by them? And how can you still pretend to be shocked that PS5 doesn't have a lot of physical games sold in there? This isn't 2003.

Famitsu isn't even reliable for consoles sales and wasn't even doing right estimates for Xbox consoles for the first 2 years that Series consoles were on sale...Media Create had completely different sales charts to the ones from Famitsu, lmao. Only after months of complains did they started to revise their numbers and now they are more aligned.

Yeah, the concern troll is me(Who uses data and arguments to backup my claims), not the one who first and only reply in the thread so far was swearing at me.

This thread is really getting out of control. Wish someone would step in and stop these types of users from outright harrasing people like this.

The Switch is a hybrid, and it is used at such, both as a home console and a handheld. Plus I don't get the cartiges argument. Actually, I don't get any of these arguments involving sizes. How come somone who really likes a game goes like" Oh its a disc, its too heavy/big/troublesome to buy or use"?

No, it does tell. Saying that people buy Switch physical games because they are cartriges(And Switch boxes are almost as big as PS5 boxes) and not PS5's because they are discs is nonsense. The digital convinience is as much true to one as it is to another.

You can buy a PS5 and sign up to PS+ extra. There is far less reason/need for new owners to buy a physical game on PS5 than on Switch.

digital is definitely getting bigger and bigger, but the PS5 software is still odd if you apply a 50% digital share.

Dude, all you've said the same can be said the opposite. How you know that the digital split is smaller on Switch and not on PS? How do you know famitsu in not the way to go to know about these kinds of things? Which has been a FACT for DECADES?

Actually, scratch that. If you don't trust famitsu numbers, or that it doesn't represent the reality, at least for Sony, then wth are you doing here? People come here to analyse Famitsu numbers. And until proven otherwise, with concrete and hard proof that Famitsu is either wrong or no more represents reality, its simply stupid to question that. Because if we are going to cheerypick when we accept that it is right and it is not, its when we get console warring and just shit throwing at each other. Exactly like you and some other users are doing right now. And if you don't trust them, then just... leave. And ignore anyone that uses these numbers as references.

Otherwise, if you don't accept those numbers as facts, and yet still comes here and belittle and harrass anyone that uses these numbers to draw conclusions from... well, that's the definition of a troll, isn't?

How can we discuss numbers or the situation in Japan in a thread about the numbers Famitsu gives out, if some of these same users calls BS on these numbers, calling them wrong or innacurate, and just being disruptive in general, by saying the famitsu numbers are BS and "irrelevant" to PS hardware and software in Japan?

If that's the case, of famitsu being unreliable, why are we here then? If someone believes these numbers to be BS without proof of them being consistently wrong, where is the middle ground on which we could have a decent discussion other than throwing insults? What use these numbers would even be, especially to those that don't believe in them?

yes? Its almost a 15% drop. But like I said, that might be in preparation to Golden Week, so it might mean nothing.

15% is NOTHING when you get numbers on a week-to-week basis. We all know this. It happens to Nintendo too. 15% is a drop in the bucket from week to week.

I believe Tiago Rodrigues Tiago Rodrigues ' main point is that, without including digital games and microtransactions, there is part of the market not captured by these numbers.

It's probably the majority at this point and not just part of the market...but yes, you're right.
That's certainly possible, though of course the famitsu data is incredibly useful.

What will be even more useful is that we will soon get thr full media Create data for 2022. Snippets of data are already leaking and it looks like overall good news for the Japanese market.

You don't really add anything to this thread but just stating the bleeding obvious. Home consoles have been in decline for years. Japan prefers mobile and handheld. The Switch would never sell anywhere close to these numbers if it were just a home console. I don't know why you try comparing PS5 to Switch when one is twice the price of the other.
PlayStation probably sell more digital games and have a subscription service. Also most of the games are more western oriented.

Definitely a home console only Nintendo platform would not do as well as the Switch anywhere. But a console with the lineup the Switch has would still do 20-25 million in Japan.

The PS5, Switch and Xbox Series are compared in every other country, so its fine to do it in Japan.

They do change, but the change is unlikely to be a gigantic shift to digital between PS4 in 2020 and PS5 in 2023.

Also I don't get your 2nd point. Are you saying that carrying around cartridges is more convinient than simply having disks in your house?

😂 I'm saying when someone is choosing between physical & downloading on switch it's not a big deal because you can carry a bunch of them little cartridges around with you & pop them in as you go vs having to get up & put a different disc in to play different games on PS5 when you choose physical.
