Decent launch for DQ. Given it’s not a full-on, new installment. I don’t think we were expecting it to make too much of a splash.

Switch sales continue to amaze, I would have thought by now the base would be saturated and there wouldn’t be many new people left that play on console, but don’t have one. I continue to be surprised they haven’t reached near-saturation yet.

This is crazy. Will anyone ever admit, who was/is against it that the series S is a master stroke decision by Microsoft.

Its the perfect japanese console. Tiny, powerful little box.

I never thought i'd see the day and its happened twice this year.
I wonder if we will ever get a week this gen where the Xbox version of a game charts in the top 10. Does Starfield have a shot at that? Or any other exclusive Xbox game?

I don't see how you can say this when PS5 has still outsold Series consoles nearly 6 to 1 in lifetime sales. Let's all be reasonable and just say it had a relatively good week.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Dragon Quest X well deserved, I've been enjoying it a lot

I would be extremely surprised if it happened as I would expect most players are signing up to game pass but we will see.

I think MS must be blown away with the performance this gen.

As others said, Phil's visits to Japan are paying off!

Funny to see the Series S doing so well. I would love to see the Game Pass subscriber base in Japan. I wonder if that is playing a big part.

It's really cool to see Xbox competitive in Japan!
The XSS really paid off. It really goes to show that this forum is not the best indicator of what will be successful for sure. I hope Xbox continues to make inroads in Japan and other Asian markets.

Sony is probably shipping the majority of its units to the US and UK because of Daddy of War and MW2

Sony is still leading xbox in japan 9:1 and they will still sell out everything they ship there. Selling a couple thousand units more 3 weeks out of the entire year is not a major victory

And they’re both getting crushed by the Switch. Japan is pretty much Nintendo land at this point. Which is why Sony has done nothing to stop the scalping going on there.

And fifa for europe.

These numbers for ps5 are so boring comparing when sony aren't even interested in the market right now.

The scalping is so bad in Japan despite their lottery system. I know a guy who has entered the lottery 10 times and still hasn’t gotten a PS5.

Japanese people are generally sticklers for the rules, so that amount of scalping was surprising to me; but it shows that there’s still massive hype for the PS5 despite Nintendos dominance.

Yeah, but its all over Asia and they’re paying super premium prices for them in China. Thats why the price could increase 5000 more yen and nothing would change because the demand for them is just far too great even outside the country.

Software will continue to look terrible in Japan, but im assuming at this point Sony probably doesn’t care as long as its being sold somewhere. Unfortunately we don’t get solid numbers from China or some other territories so its hard to track.

Series S are gonna sell right now because they’re practically giving them away with the gift cards

If I'm reading this right, these last 4 weeks have been either the highest or second highest weeks compared to same weeks last years?
Yeah, since the Splatoon 3 OLED model released 4 weeks ago the Switch has been on fire, massively up on last year and higher than any other year from week 35 to 38. But also remember the reason September 2021 sales were so low was because people were waiting for the Switch OLED to release in October.

Famitsu is vastly overestimating xbox sales in Japan tho

It could just be different reporting periods?

Western games like HFW have never done well there AFAIK but I suspect they still care about sales of Japanese games there even with that huge gulf in sales between NSW and PS4/5 versions of Dragon quest. Japanese games are still selling there for them.

XBS S - 13.211
XBS X - 866

That’s a huge gap. I have the Series S and love it. Is this down to stock levels, or is the famed ‘small spaces plus they like small and cute electronics’ actually holding true?

Personally we can all laugh at the numbers, but they are doing much better in Japan than I would ever have guessed.

Its because they are giving away gift cards with them, so the Series S they have already in stock at retailers are now being sold in conjunction to newly shipped models
