Fan Creates A Few Scenes From Ocarina of Time in Unreal O_O!!!!!!

Yeah, pretty sure at least some have been posted already.
Not a big fan as it's usually just dropping some models ripped from OoT 3D or Hyrule Warriors into test maps while adding effects that don't mesh well with the art style

This is better than some of the other "Old games on unreal 4" stuff that i've seen, but they never get character models looking remotely ok. Maybe it's the character models, maybe it's the animations on them, but it's super weird.

Environments look good, though.

Jeez the thread title..

Like most fan made Unreal 4 demos, this wouldn't pass as a retail product. Its impressive but at the same time it looks lifeless.

I really hope Nintendo remakes OOT.

I want them to use FF XIII as the model and spread it out over 3 full retail releases. I really hope they change the combat system, mechanics and story as well.

What the hell is the big deal? Did I build up hope for tons of people and tear it down? Anyone who actually thinks Nintendo is going to remake the game themselves is not being honest with themselves. The most Nintendo has ever done are reskinned ports.

I never understand why people are always so impressed by EU4 "HD" remakes. They're 90% the engine doing its thing and honestly, I can't say I find it to look amazing. Can't quite put my finger on the why though. They're always exactly the same.

Edit: Also, he simply reuses the official 3DS models of Temple of Time and Death Mountain. How is this recreating as much as just dumping it into another engine?

I'd never seen this before. Clearly the guy puts a lot of work into these. Pretty impressive. Personally, I quite liked the remake of Zora's Domain. The others don't look, I don't know, "Nintendo-y". Kind of lose some charm due to the engine, I think. Personal opinion, of course.

Still, bottom line, impressive work.

The more realistic Zelda gets, the creepier things become.

As far as i'm concerned, this looks worse than the N64 version.

The art direction and coherence with the effects just seems off. I appreciate the work that must go into this, though.

I don't expect Nintendo to remake Ocarina of Time again, but when I see a topic titled "Ocarina of Time HD Remake O_O" I'm led to believe Nintendo have announced the project or someone has found a leak. This is incredibly misleading click bait.

Well done to the guy though, he's got talent for sure even if the art isn't great.

The thing that these demos ALWAYS miss is visual style. It's not about the poly counts or anything like that, and it's why the N64 version looks better to many people. It is cohesive, made by a team of artists who were using the same visual style guide and pipeline for creating, placing and lighting assets - whereas these are always just downloaded rocks, some default particle effects and some post processing coupled with music that does most of the atmospheric heavy lifting.

You have an interesting idea of the term 'literal'

EDIT:

That we can agree on

Give me a BREAK, Gaf. Don't agree with the title, fine! I know I screwed up. Stop derailing the thread. You're better off getting a mod to edit it because they don't give me the ability myself!

It looks like someone is just starting out and is trying to apply tutorials to things he likes. Good for him but it's still horrible.

Looks pretty cool. Of course it's not a retail product, or made by a huge team with highly paid artists, but just a self project that's giving a glimpse at some possibilities. I expected the usual over reaction though. Thanks op.

It's impressive in a lot of ways, but I'm glad Nintendo isn't making games that look like this. I can appreciate the time and effort that went into this, but I'm glad it's nothing more than a fan's work. This looks nothing like I feel Zelda should look like.

The Zora's Domain demo looks really nice tbh, plays nice too. Love the particle effects on Navi.

It's obviously very impressive technically (especially considering the ressources at play here), but at the same time, it's not all that aesthetically pleasing. All in all, many of these HD treatments of early 3D games feel terribly sterile.

People need to take more time adjusting shaders to flatter the art style in projects like this instead of just using UE4 defaults.
