Where is it?
Fan Expo will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto from Thursday, August 23rd to Sunday, August 26th. The Convention Centre is right beside the CN Tower, and easily accessible via public transit. If you're somehow lost, just find the CN Tower (hard to miss) and make your way there.

NEW: Fan Expo Sports
Fan Expo now has a sports section. Tickets sold separately.

Money
I'd say about half of the exhibitors will accept VISA, Master Card, or Interac, but CASH is probably the most efficient way to pay. It might even score you a better price on your purchase. Keep the cards as backup. If you need more, there are ATMs outside the exhibitors area, and banks outside the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Getting around
There will be plenty of people, especially at the exhibitors area. It may be difficult to get around, so be sure to take a FREE Fan Expo guide scattered around the area.

There is also a floor plan available to download (click), as well as the official schedule (click).

Transportation
It's very easy to get to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. See the Map above for directions if you're driving. Public transit users, simply depart at Union Station, make your way to the Skywalk heading towards the Rogers Centre, and there will (probably) be Fan Expo volunteers that will direct you to the Convention Centre. Unless you're lugging around a huge costume, or plan to scrape every inch of the place for things to buy, it's probably a lot easier to just take public transit, rather than drive. Parking will probably cost you a lot, too, if you can find a spot.

Food
If last year is any indication, food selection will suck and be overpriced. Don't get suckered in; bring a snack, a refillable bottle for water, a granola bar, something light and leaves little to no mess. There are restaurants outside the Convention Centre, and downtown Toronto in general has plenty to offer for great restaurants. The Toronto-Age thread is your one-stop resource centre for all things Toronto. Take advantage of Toronto-GAF's knowledge and recommendations, as well. Who knows the city better than us?

Baggage
You're going to buy a lot. Or, that's your plan. If you're there for just one day, you're going to want to buy everything you see before the end of the day. Along with a backpack, bring another bag to carry your stuff with. Alternatively, Silver Snail and/or other exhibitors will (probably?) offer giant bags hanging off their table free of charge, like last year. I'm unsure of lockers, so you might be out of luck if you plan on storing your things in one.

Other Tips
Try to stay inside. Leaving the Convention Centre means you'll have to line up if you want to enter again. They've done a better job last year managing the lines, but you'll never know this time around. Stay inside, and leave only if you're absolutely done or if it's important.

Keep it moving. Stopping in the middle of the exhibitors' area is a dumb idea, since you'd be holding everyone up. People who want to take pictures of people in costume will crowd the space up, too. Watch out for those crowds.

FUN
Have a lot of that. At the end of the day, you're going to be dead tired, but at least you had a really fun day. You may be heading back the next day, or you may just go for one, but remember to enjoy yourself. Marvel at the costumes, take pictures, try the speed dating, whatever. Might as well indulge.

I've attended in previous years, and I wanted to go this year. Unfortunately, that August weekend was the only free weekend for a cottage trip with my longtime friends. At least I got to go to SDCC this year instead of Fan Expo. Hope whoever attends this year's Fan Expo has fun!

Any restaurant suggestions for the Sunday meet-up? Anything new open up downtown this summer?

That schedule.

:(

The only thing for me is that Colin Baker panel. And it's Colin Baker.

No Xbone. No PS4. No bag of peanuts.

There's also another Doctor Who panel (Who's 50) on Saturday at 1PM.

I feel like I should go to Colin Baker's panel. I don't know, though.

Got the wrist band in the mail today. Not sure if the price was worth it but now I guess I don't have to go early or line up. So it still sounds like a deal to me.

Nothing new close by if I recall. It's all the same chain pubs. Not sure if people want to trek east of Bay and go to the Esplanade Beir Market.

I have no qualms with the stuff around since the menus generally are safe for even the pickiest eaters.

You sure? The floor plan has Sony, Ubisoft, and Microsoft space listed on it.

I feel like they would have made an announcement by this point. There still could be some current gen sneak peeks i guess.

Yeah, i almost feel that its mandatory for.

Hmm. Maybe I will do Saturday.

I've seen promotions for playable demo of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag at Fan Expo. When I played Black Flag demo at SDCC, it was with a PS4 controller... so I suspect their demos at Fan Expo will be using next-gen as well. The guys I talked to at the Black Flag boat at SDCC told me they would be the same people at Fan Expo too.

If Ubisoft plans on showing off Black Flag, they're sure as hell not going to be doing it on current gen. They'll be sure to emphasize the seamless transition from area to area (i.e., no loading screens) and other features available with next-gen. I just tweeted @FanExpoCanada to confirm if next-gen will be playable at the event or not. I'll post back with their reply.

If next gen consoles were to be there, I think they would be promoting the hell out of it.

Even if they did, I'd not get too excited. Hobbystar flopped a few times in the past after promising to have certain consoles but didn't deliver on the showfloor.

Cool, good to know, will come up with a restaurant tomorrow and make a list of potential atendees. Anyone else interested in attending (the Sunday meet-up) that has yet to express interest?

I'm going Friday morning, got some time off work so I don't end up getting locked outside due to overselling on Saturdays like last year

That Microsoft booth is gonna be pretty barren if they don't have the XBOX One. There's like nothing coming out for the 360.

Gonna be my first time going this year. Should be fun.

Looks like I'll be working Thursday and Saturday. If you come by the Ubisoft booth, come say hello! So glad I have Sunday free for board games.

Well, checked Toronto life and it said it reopened in May under new ownership. However, no answer on the phone or even a answering machine suggests it might not be open.

Well let's make it tentatively here, and we'll head somewhere else if we need to.

I'll come up with a list of potential atendees tonight.

Also, I'll probably be around on Friday too if anyone wants to hang out! : )

I'll be there Saturday. Hoping for PS4/Xbone. Last year Wii U was playable and they didn't advertise it at all, so you never know.

also, getting a picture with Stan Lee ^_^

Yeah does anyone know yet if we'll see any Xbox One's or PS4s there? I'm not so sure on going yet, but if they are there I'll go for certain.

If it's there, they need to announce it now. It would drive up ticket sales for the event.

Sorry if this was answered in the OP just not totally sure.

Would I be able to buy tickets at the door or must I order them online?

Alright just bought Sunday tickets. Still can't believe I need to bring this print at home ticket to the venue to be scanned, before I'm given my actual ticket that will also be scanned. Such a stupid pointless extra step.

Yeah I just gave up and paid $20 for them so send the stupid wristband to my home. I'll probably be attending most of the days, outside of possibly Thursday.

Please let me know if your name isn't on the list and you'd like to attend. Or, if your name's on the list, please confirm you CAN attend! : )
Yeah I'll come to post Fan Expo meetup. Still deciding if I should slum it out with a Saturday ticket or just do Sunday and forget trying to make time for some of the scheduled stuff.

For those looking for cheap eats in the area.

If you walk west along bremner to Spadina there is a really great shwarma place on the NW corner (building where the Sobeys is).

huge shwarma wraps are 10 bucks including drink and fries. Shwarma wrap alone is 6 or 7 bucks.

I live in that building building and eat ENTIRELY too much shwarma :)

Question: Can I buy tickets for Sunday on site Thurs-Sat?

I wasn't planing on going but my friend is a huge Walking Dead fan and wants to go, plus wants to see 'Walking Dead Live' which is at 11. In my experience, there's a slim chance of buying tickets on Sunday and getting in before 11, let alone getting into that panel.

They usually still sell tickets on each day. Just get there really early if you want to make it by 11.

I'll be there!

Anyone besides these two? Going to be a pretty quiet meet-up without more participation. (Which is is how it's been for years now...but I digress...)

More people that came out yesterday said they will come, I guess they just haven't posted yet.

What would be considered early? Also, if I buy tickets at the box office, do they let you right in, or do you then have to go wait in the main ticket line?

Since FanExpoCanada and UbisoftCanada seem to ignore Tweets directed towards them, here is the best source I have found for confirmation that next-gen consoles will be playable at Fan Expo. I won't be able to make it this year since I have a cottage trip planned. Whoever gets to play the next-gen consoles at Fan Expo this year, I'm sure you will enjoy playing them like I did earlier this year. :)

I may trot down on Friday if this is confirmed on Thursday.

I haven't ordered a ticket at all.

Early as in you're there by 9 if you want to be at a panel by 11. Expect a huge lineup. They'll let you in right away once you buy your ticket.

Also, the lineup to go inside is separate from the line to buy/pick-up tickets. The website should have a map with the location of their ticket booths.
