In all my years lurking on NeoGAF before actually joining, I've never understood why people create these farewell thread, no one really cares. The forum doesn't skew towards Sony, I'd say it skews more towards PC than anything else. But I don't get involved with fanboyism to be honest. I enjoy playing games, so if something is on a system I want to play, then I'll get that system/console as well. I just like games I don't care where I have to play them

So people are really going bananas because between Xbox basically going third party and the Switch 2 being such a shitshow, Sony has effectively won the console war not by making all the right moves but just standing back while their competitors screw up?

Look, I'm a PlayStation only gamer. And I really don't care if they have won the console war. I'm not ten years old. I don't need everyone in the world to enjoy gaming on PlayStation like I do. If you want to game on PC, or Xbox, or Switch 2, or Steamdeck, or you're rocking your Ouya, I just don't give a crap. That's good for you and have fun doing it.

I have concerns that moves that Nintendo is making are going to actively make gaming worse by making all the other players in the industry believe they are undervaluing their games and then raising their prices accordingly. That's a very big concern for me, that gaming will become less affordable as a result of Nintendo's actions. Even so, people will still want to support and play on Nintendo, and that's their right.

This weird, toxic political mentality that some gamers have that when someone plays a game on a platform they happen to not enjoy, it's somehow personally hurting them, is so childish and stupid it makes my head hurt. There are different strokes for different folks. That's not a bad thing.

I only ever had 3 Original Gamboy cartridges and one of them was Tetris. The Super Mario Land game I literally masted it to the point that I was doing speedruns by myself and the batteries even exploded on me. That was because i had nothing else to play. It was expensive and asking for more games is outragous.

I never thought there was a regulation. History proves that if a product is successful at a high price, other products in the same market space will price themselves accordingly.

If Nintendo can move large quantities of games at $80 and $90, there is no reason to believe third parties and platform holders will continue to sell them at $60 and $70.

Prices will rise on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Epic, Windows. This will benefit no one but a bunch of major corporations and hurt consumers.

Repeating this once again for the people in the back

30 years ago, cartridge manufacturing was expensive and gaming was niche. Popular franchises sell 10, 20, maybe 50 times more than they did then.

Twenty and thirty years ago we didn't have: DLC, microtransactions, season passes, loot boxes, paid online multiplayer (Xbox had just started that 20 years back), preorder bonuses, multiple limited or deluxe editions, digital distribution reducing manufacturing costs…

Games cost more to make but gaming publishers have added many more revenue streams to compensate. Every single publisher, even Ubisoft with their stock slide, make record profit every year.

The cost of games 20-30 years ago is an irrelevant comparison.
