FAST Racing NEO |OT| When Everyone's Fast, No One Will Be

Yeah, there's something up with the online at the moment. First race went perfectly fine but it just locked up and made that noise when I was choosing the second track.

Wonder if they know about this problem yet.

They probably know by now. I have seen many Miiverse posts mentioning freeze on online.

Why all the F-Zero comparisons? The main thing that they have in common is the speed and, in that aspect, Fast Racing Neo is probably going to be faster on straights (just hold the button and watch) while slower on turns (it seems that you don't have tools to take a turn really fast)

Because not everybody knows so much about f-zero as you seem to (that's not sarcasm by the way, your write up is actually very interesting), therefore they won't latch on to all those nuanced details and will focus on the basics, and there are only a handful of super fast futuristic racers to compare it to and f-zero is the most well known one, and this game is on a Nintendo system.

Re; online crashes

I didn't have that issue and there are people with well over 100 points already. I feel that this is an issue that only affects certain units, which is why they didn't catch it during QA. Hopefully they patch it soon.

Played the first two cups. I enjoyed it, definitely my type of racing games. Yeah it's not F-Zero X, but who thought it would be ?

I'm glad that game exists for what it is, a cool futuristic racer. It fights in the same league as XG3, which is more than fine for me.

I was afraid about that color thing, but it only concerns the boost pads, not the boost fuel, so it works well as the unique gameplay element, it's fun.

Fun fact : I won the second cup with those poor results - 3rd, 3rd, 2nd and 2nd. We were 4 vehicles to have the same number of points, when you're on draw the game give you the best place.

Played through the first circuit. Still fumbling along a little bit but managed to do fairly well. Bummer about the aliasing but otherwise a very solid game all around and worth every penny. Buy it!!

Btw- Is this the announcer from GX I hear? .. because it sure does sound exactly like him, which is awesome!

Yeah, it's him.

Does it support the Pro Controller? I read the OP, but it doesn't say if the game supports it.

This game is everything I wanted to be

Upon seeing the control scheme I was skeptical (mainly not having boost on a face button) but it's very intuitive

(Playing on gamepad)

I think my only real gripe thus far are the respawns. Obviously F-Zero is brutal with crashes, but I've found myself a couple of times trying to get back in and doing way worse/screwing up right off the bat (especially since it spawns you right where you messed up before)

I'm sure it'll become less of an issue once I learn the tracks, solid encouragement to not crash lol

This game is far better than I expected.
The difficulty level is fairly high, something I like considering most of the games that are being shipped nowadays are too easy.

I played the first cup and was surprised that it wasn't too difficult to place first. The controls have a loose feel but I got acclimated to it quick. I don't like collecting all those orbs around the track and would prefer a boost system like FZero. The phase switching adds an interesting challenge to the game. While it's not Fzero, it's actually pretty good.

I need to do a better job at getting orbs.

If you got boosts for going everywhere except over them, I'd be flying nonstop.

You got that kind of boost system in Hero Mode.

It's a pretty incredible game for the money. Top drawer.

It's like playing a N64 classic in high rez. Wonderful.

Game frooze during loading in the third cup - seems like it could use some fine tweaking

First Cup:

-2nd
-3rd
-8th (crashed at the crates at the end twice)
-2nd

I got 2nd overall.

I do like how the teams don't always finish in the same order though from the looks of it.

Better than Mario Kart in that regard lol.

The rubbe rbanding may not be perfect, but at least the AI doesn't always get the same finish. If you are lucky you can get Gold with straight second places.
Did this three cups in a row.

Play it for about 2 hours. I played all the 4 cups on Subsonic level. There are still 2-3 tracks that torment me, so I'm not yet very good at it. But I love it. The color switch and orbs system is very fun. And the jumps are very well done, the design of those is top notch. As for the early complains around here that the tracks are too straights, play the game, you'll be surprised.

It controls very well. As far as I noticed, the weight plays an important role in that.

Sunahara Desert is the asshole level of this game

Yeah, I hate it with passion. It's the only track on which I can't get a decent result.

Beat the two first cups. Not a fan of the stage hazards, as they can be pretty annoying. Handling also feels a bit weird compared to how I remember F-Zero beeing.

Still, for the price it's pretty fun. I hope there'll be some DLC later down the road. 16 tracks in total seem a bit short on content.

Oh, and in celebration of FAST finally releaseing, my brother ordered some new N64 controllers so me and him can play some F-Zero X multiplayer.

Bought, downloaded and a played a bunch this morning. This game is hitting all the right notes with me.

It feels kind of like playing F-Zero, mixed with Wipeout visual and level feel, with an Ikaruga color-switching mechanic for the boost.

My biggest worry was that it would feel too Generic or be too tough (based on reviews), but it's not at all. The color switching boost was a creative and fun way to mix things up, and Shin'en progressively throw some great ideas for the mechanic into different tracks to keep things fresh.

The gane is tricky to get used to at first, but the AI and game design feels more than fair so far, and I find that overall the game just feels great and exciting to play. They nailed thier target on this one.

I can't believe I've just bought a game and 5 minutes later it's downloaded and ready to play.

What sorcery is this?

This game is really impressive..

And playing online is much more fun than playing the cups..

if someone wants to add me, I'm Xzlop808 ...

Posting here because the review thread is already kind of dead (my bad)

After watching more footage...

Gameplay-wise, Fast Racing Neo seems really simple while F-Zero GX was rather complex.

The main thing is that not a lot of people actually played F-Zero GX. Even smaller is the group that played it and used said turning mechanics.

But overall, you're right. It's basically more of a wipeout without weapons and with F-Zero speed. It's still really good, though. Much prefer F-Zero still, but I'm happy to have this.

Is there a way to do a smooth landing from a jump? I tried changing pitch in different directions but I always seem to hit the track with an unpleasant crash sound.

I don't see anyone making the comparison (or even being aware that it even exists) but how does this compare to the original Wii game? Light years ahead visually obviously, I mean gameplay, track design etc.

I did play the WiiWare game, and this sequel is just in another league. The pacing, the mechanics etc. are here all much, much better. The orbs and phasing are really fun here, whereas they were annoying in Racing League. And in visuals/sensations, it's completely something else.

Some things look a little cheap though, like trees are just 2D sprites, but while you play, you really don't care. The gameplay is just pure fun and speed sensations. Even my boyfriend is having a blast.

Honestly, at this point (I may change my opinion later), I'm having more fun than with F-Zero GX. GX was obviously a better game, but it was really stressful, here the rule and mechanics suit me a lot more.

This game is FANTASTIC! I did not expect this game ended up better than I thought it would be. Sense of speed is maybe the best i've seen in all futuristic racing games, it really is something else...and I own F-Zero GX, XG3, WipEout HD, 2048 and more. And I didn't even unlock the Advanced and Expert league yet! Motion blur effects done right here!

But all that speed means nothing when the gameplay is no good, but guess what?
The controls are responsive and it is just much fun to play! My biggest "fear" for this game is now out the window.

I was craving for a racing game like this FOF YEARS and Shin'en delivered big time.
Oh...and they also nailed the soundtrack imo. My favorite song so far is from the Sunahara Plains track.

I love this game already. €14.99 is an absolute steal! Thank you Shin'en. :)
