You give the judge the benefit of the doubt, despite acknowledging you can't imagine what could justify such an outcome. I don't give him the same benefit, especially since he already gave his reasons for the sentancing following the outrage and it wasn't all that convincing.

In regards to appeals I'm not sure. I don't think the prosecutors could/would appeal it since he was found guilty. But I could be wrong.

I've seen one person wish the death of the rapist, most are echoing what a bullshit sentence the judge carried out. As for pedophile defenders, luckily most of the obvious ones were banned a long time ago but there are still a few, who changed their tune to be more on the side of 'rehabilitation' even if it's a case of penetrative sex and not simply a case of downloading child pornography.

I do however not believe that this man will be ever a good fit for society. Put him away so no one else gets harmed.

It's always justice versus rehabilitation. It stands to reason that if you want true rehabilitation (or think that it is possible), 25 years in prison will probably not do that. If you want punishment and to set an example for other potential offenders, you go 25 to life

I imagine the family not wanting the latter played a role in he sentence

To be clear I think we should be trying to rehab every criminal though there are certain types of criminally insane folks that will probably have little chance of being reintegrated into society. Whether this father is one of those I have no real clue, I'm still not calling for him to be killed or anything. The situation is fucked.

Paid off? that seems quite a leap without any corroborating evidence.

It's far more plausible that he does not give a shit, but I'm not sure why that would lead him to give a very lenient sentence instead of just going along with the prosecutor's recommendation.

As for your second question, I don't know. The girl is not provided with any area to express her own opinion so I would not go and assume how she feels.
