Totally kosher, but get it straight - it's from IIDX 5th Style!

Not to mention that FuriFuri '60 rocks its ass. :D

They put it in DDR Extreme too.. I've never played 5th Style..

But about FuriFuri '60.. can't we all just get along? Poupourri d'Orange, baby! Mondo Street => FuriFuri '60 => Moba Moga! Wahoo!

My favorite: Sute Ki Dane. Very beautiful song, and so glad Square kept it in Japanese in the US version (whether by choice or not).

Also liked Eyes on Me alot. From my favorite singer, plus i thought it was used in the game at the perfect moment.

LEgend of Mana had a really good opening song too, as do all of the Tales games. Starry Heavens is my favorite among them also...or maybe Key to My Heart....

I have to agree. I knew that 99% of the replies here would be weepy Japanese pop crap that if it came from a north american singer the same people that hail it for brilliance would then shit on it.

A couple of my favorites are from the Sega CD...

Sonic, You Can Do Anything - Sonic CD Japanese version ("Toot, toot Sonic warrior, deep in space and time").

The mumbled opening theme from Road Avenger ("I know I'm gonna revive. When I am...on the road").

Then, of course, there's the song that the girls sing along to in Night Trap..."You'll be caught in the night, Night Trap!"

On the not-Sega-CD front, I love the opening ("Dig a chance!") and closing themes from Mr. Driller: Drill Land, and "This is My Happiness" from Space Channel 5, Part 2.

Totally. Orange Lounge kicks so much ass, I wish they were a 'proper' band with albums/tours/etc. :(

Pokémon Parentage Conspiracy Theorist
Can You Feel the Sunshine from Sonic R and You Gotta Believe from Parappa are both are soooo positive to such a cheesy extent that they end up genuinely uplifting. The singer on CYFTS is good too. The Burning Rangers Main Theme is... unique. Let's Get It On and Third Strike from SF3:TS is the highest quality music I've ever heard for a fighting game. Dub I Dub from DDR is extremely catchy, and Ridge Racer (One More Win) from RRT4 is really good too.

credit song for Sands of Time

Super Arrow character theme in F-Zero GX

I believe it was the Race 2 music in BG&E

Hikaru Utada: Hikari (Kingdom Hearts)
Maki Kirioka: Beyond the Bounds (ZOE2 Anubis)
Faye Wong: Eyes on Me (FFVIII)

Hikari is definitely my all time favourite though. Everytime I hear that, it conjurs up so many emotions I felt when playing the game. It was just a really nice combination.

Honorable mention for Freeland: Mind Killer (Rez)

I must be going insane... I'm starting to find Drinky correct more often than not. *

I will say that, for some odd reason, the music in Crazy Taxi always seemed to fit.

* Except concerning the GC vs. PS2.

Within the context of the game:
NiGHTS - Dreams Dreams, also the Christmas NiGHTS remix
Parappa the Rapper - All the Master's songs
Sonic CD - Believe
Daytona - Sky High
Burning Rangers - Angels With Burning Hearts, We Are Burning Rangers (both Japanese and English versions)
King of Fighters 94/96 - Psycho Soldier
Fighters Megamix - Rent A Hero
Sonic Adventure - I Wanna Fly (Tail's theme), Amy's Theme, Open Your Heart, Knuckle's theme
Sonic Adventure - Themes for Shadow and Knuckles, all of Knuckle's stage (bad, yet so good)
Sonic R - All stage music
Steep Slope Sliders - Hold Me Close, Memories (?)

Outside of the context (stuff i might listen to if i had never played the game):
Burning Rangers - I Just Smile
Panzer Dragoon Saga - Sona Mi Areru Ec Sancitu
Xenogears - Star of Tears
Zone of Enders 2 - Flowing Destiny
Sega Touring Car Championship - Don't Drop Me
Breath of Fire 3 - Pure Again (never played the game, but it's beautiful)
Parasite Eve - Somnia Memorias (and also the remix of this song on the PE Remixes disc)
Zap! Snowboarding Trix '98 - Practice mode BGM
Steep Slope Sliders - Hold Me Close, Memories (?)
Jet Set Radio - Magical Girl, Super Brother (Guitar Vader has some other great songs between their otherwise hit-or-miss CDs)
Jet Grind Radio Future - Baby-T, I Love Love You, Rockin' the Mic, Butterfly, Concept Of Love
Dance Dance Revolution - Stomp To My Beat, Get Up 'N Move

i'm sure there's tons more, and the second list should be included in the first, but truthfully, a lot of songs would lose their value had i never played the games they were in.

Edit: Someone requested the MGS3 "Snake Eater" song ealier:

Abstracted Camouflage - Snake Eater

I can't think of any particularly good ones, but I can tell you this with absolute certainty--the WORST song I have ever heard in any video game, ever, is that inhuman crap at the end of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. After playing through one of my favorite games of all time, with a phenomenal soundtrack, sweet graphics, great gameplay, and a cool ending-- they play this yuppie New Agey crap? WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?
Just like the wind,
I've always been
Drifting high up in the sky that never ends
Through thick and thin,
I always win
'Cause I would fight both life and death to save a friend

I face my destiny every day I live
And the best in me is all I have to give

Just like the sun (Just like the sun)
When my day's done
Sometimes I don't like the person I've become
Is the enemy within a thousand men?
Should I walk the path if my world's so dead ahead?

Is someone testing me every day I live?
Well, the best in me is all I have to give

I can pretend (I can pretend)
I am the wind (I am the wind)
And I don't know if I will pass this way again
All things must end
Goodbye, my friend
Think of me when you see the sun or feel the wind

I am the wind,
I am the sun
And one day we'll all be one

I am the wind,
I am the sun
And one day we'll all be one

**INSTRUMENTAL SOLO**

I am the wind,
I am the sun
And one day we'll all be one

I am the wind,
I am the sun
One day we'll all be one

Road Avenger (Sega CD/Arcade) Intro Song
Sonic CD (Sega-CD) Both US and Japanese Intro Songs
Soul Edge/Blade (PS1/Arcade) Intro Song
Daytona USA (Saturn/Arcade) Blue Blue Skies song

Ok, i won't even bother to name any tracks from Jet Set Radio, JSRF or Ollie King or i'd end up listing like 30 tracks

One More Win (R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 Intro)
Exciter (Dead Or Alive 2 Intro)
Let’s Get It On Tonight (Metropolis Street Racer)
Open Your Heart (Sonic Adventure Theme)
How Do You Feel (DOA2 Hard*Core Intro [JP])
Can Still See The Light (Phantasy Star Online Ending Theme)

NiGHTS ending.

Hahaha, tell me your kidding. Nights had awesome music, but hearing those stupid kids sing that song was just embarassing. Not as embarassing as the Burning Rangers soundtack, but still.

SH3:
You're Not Here
Hometown
I Want Love (Studio Mix)

SH4

Cradel of Forest
Your Rain
Waiting for You

Roll's stage music from Marvel vs Capcom :D (though Rockman 6 PSX had a better version of it)
The intro theme to the Japanese version of Megaman 7 (Electric Communication?)

There are no lyrics, but the Mitho's Castle in ToS has the greatest music ever. On a similar note I like the Derris-Kharlan music because it is just a slower version than the one in the castle.
