Not sure if this has been done, but tell us your favourite endings, and you're better off marking your spoilers just incase.

Now, go ahead!

(I just realized in most of my own threads, I'm asking something :P)

Metal Gear Solid has the only really, really good ending I've ever seen in a game.
That's a good one. But there's no cake, and the ending song doesn't hold a candle to Mario 64's final movement.

MGS3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> All other endings.

I have a place in my heart for all of the Final Fantasy endings though. Ico one was short and sweet.

Most recently I am fond of the conclusion to PoP:Sands of Time. Nice the way the adventure came full circle.

Crud, if I ever got to finish a game I'd tell you. Unfortunately I've only ever finished a rare few and I'm not about to list Duke Nukem as my favourite ending. No way in hell!

MGS3. Without a doubt the most kickass video game ending ever. A muthafucking huge improvement over MGS2's piece of shit ending.

MGS1. A little preachy, but still cool.

Zelda 3. Pretty much because of the credits theme. :P

OoT. Would be PERFECT, but the "party" at the end brings it down a notch.

SMB3. Again, I love the credits theme. :P

Final Fantasy VIII. Teh emotional.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Jordan Mechner leads to greatness.

Xenosaga. That was just a pretty damn cool ending sequence.

I'm sure I'm missing some other endings I love.

Special mention for Wind Waker. If we count from before the final boss fight, then it is one of the greatest endings ever. But that isn't really fair. The credits sequence is pretty horrendous, though.

Final Fantasy VIII.

*trippy time paradox shit* Oh noes is Squall ded?*kewl fly-by shots of Garden and laffo Garden Party* NO HE IS NOT *the end

even though i haven't played xenosaga, i agree with everything in this post. makes me even more excited to finally get through mgs3. once i finally manage to pull myself away from world of warcraft, of course.

Ocarina of Time & Final Fantasy VIII have endings that rule.

They also rule as games, overall.

Super Metroid... to bad SO many games have to recreate the "final boss is dead, escape the building!" routine again and again.

Ocarina of Time...
the events leading up to the ending were awesome. Ganondorf's castle, the fight with Ganondorf on the pillars, running all the way out of the crumbling tower with Zelda using her magic to open the doors, and then Ganon arising from the ruins. Definately cool.

I didn't like the whole "let's have a party in Hyrule field" during the credits. Firstly, the real Kokiri aren't supposed to leave the forest. And the chicken lady was holding chickens! I thought she was allergic... And why were the Gerudo happy? Etc. Link running into Zelda again was a nice touch for the very, very end.

Off the top of my head

Duke Nukem 3D
Thief: The Dark Project
Half Life
Halo 2 (no kidding)
Quake 2
Head Over Heels (C64)

Props to people mentioning Sands of Time, almost perfect ending.

K, the kokiri wrenen't supposed to leave, but they did. So what? :P

and Anju (I'll just use her Majora's Mask name) bred a new type of cuccoo, a pocket cuccoo, that she isn't allergic to. Remember talking to her as teen link? Oh, and Ganon seemed to kind of be an outcast from the Gerudo for his ambitions, based off of what Nabooru said and did, and the fact that, well, Ganon wasn't with the Gerudo tribe. (plus the fact that he was raised by Twinrova. O_o). I'd guess that he wasn't well liked by the gerudo.

And yes, Ganon's castle ruled. :)

Seeing Ganondorf rise from the debree, flash his triforce hand, and transform, and then the dramatic music started playing... omg.

Spoiler

I just remember seeing the ending and thinking, "Sweet Jebus! Earthlings are behind all of this!?!"

Actually, I would like to change mine

01) Final Fantasy VII (Ignoring AC)
02) Final Fantasy X
03) Metal Gear Solid 3
04) ICO

1) MGS3 (easily the BEST ending in a game ever)
2) FFX (brilliant)
3) MGS (the 1st ending that absolutely floored me for a videogame)
4) Ico (beautiful)
5) some other random FF number (they're all great :D )

Those are the 4 I'd mention. Oddly enough, a lot of games have good endings that satisfy me. But I want an ending that makes the game better than the experience already was. Not something that reaches it's peak, and then winds down to a halt, just trying to end it because it has to end. I noticed trying to think back though a lot of games have amazing climaxes and didn't end exactly at the same height of awe. That's possible I think. Shenmue 2 definetly comes to mind though I still cherish the game and what happened before it ended. Also, GTA games as long as they are, have the chance to weave a beautiful tale with emotional value, having players attached for over 100 hours. But though there's a lot of cool moments, aliances cross over uncovincingly and the main character just seems to work for whoever without ever thinking why. For some reason as much as the magazines praise the story, I always expect them to nail an emotional, moving, story but it never quite reaches that. I still love the games to death but the magazines piss me off with that

Wait, what counts as an ending? As far as I'm concerned, if there's still gamplay to come/going on, it's not an ending.

With the possible exception of games where it's always gameplay, like Half-Life.

Ys Book I & II
Final Fantasy VIII
Ico
Final Fantasy Tactics
Phantasy Star II
Actraiser
Skies of Arcadia
Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Are you one of those that thought humanity got wiped out at the end? Owned. :P

Yeah, and the ending is so much better for it. Since Sakaguchi didn't make AC, I'll consider it (and everything after it) to be a "What if they didn't actually die" scenario :p

Before Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, it was between Vagrant Story and Metal Gear Solid. Runners up,

Final Fantasy IV, VI, IX, Megaman X, Ocarina & Wind Waker.
