FBI tweet releases Clinton Foundation Investigation documents from 2001

I have seen some of the most bat-shit crazy claims about the FBI the last few days when ya'll were singing their praises a couple of months ago.

This is revisionist history nonsense. Democrats were practically unified in their calling Comey's "no indictment" press conference ridiculous and unprecedented, because it was. Just because the non-indictment was incidentally the right decision - because no prosecutor worth their salt could actually win conviction in this case - does not mean Comey still didn't even fuck that up.

Stop trying to repaint history to fit your narrative.

I really don't think everything is some plot to bring down Hillary and co. If it were I reckon she'd have been arrested months ago. There are plenty of skeletons in the Clinton's closet. You don't become a millionaire as a politician in a 100% clean manner regardless.

Oh so you're not saying there is a plot to bring down Hillary, you are saying there is a plot to not look into her hard enough because of all these so-called imaginary skeletons you think there are.

Hillary has been investigated and scrutinized more than any politician in the past 75 years, maybe ever. Republican led investigations have repeatedly found no wrong doing. They are not covering for her either.

If there was something serious to find, they would have found it. Failing that - since they have, indeed, failed at that... now they create vacuums of information for ridiculous people to fill with their worst fears for whatever fucked up purpose you think it is for.

One thing is certain: It was unarguably wrong for Comey to hold the press conference the way he did back in June, and it was unarguably wrong for Comey to release this info about looking into more emails last week. Republicans and Democrats both have heaped scalding criticism for Comey for it.

So either he is an incompetent or he is intentionally doing it. It doesn't matter if there is a conspiracy or not, because the impact is the same. Destroy Comey after the election and make sure he can't step foot in another government agency again.

What dictates the timing of the release?

They're supposed to release the information as quickly as possible from the time of the request. Typically anywhere from a month to 3+ months depending on complexity.

Without knowing when the request was made, it's hard to say.

edit: Ami is here right on cue to derail the thread
edit2: yeah, low blow. I'm not going to edit it out for posterity's sake.

FOIA requests often take ages, so it's not like it happened overnight.

FOIA requests are for specific individuals who've requested information. That can then be shared of course, but they don't involve just blasting it out for everyone generally speaking.

He wasn't in the best situation with this. If he had waited until after the election he would have been criticized just the same by different people for withholding information.

In any case I don't think this is enough to cause a Trump presidency. These reports might as well be blank with the redaction either way.

Going back to threads in July feels like stepping into an alternate universe, lol.

Doesn't matter. That's why you follow established protocol. You don't make up your own shit against the advice of your superiors because you want to.

Comey's hands were tied by Lynch's borderline lunatic meeting with Bill on the plane.

If she doesn't make that move it makes it much easier for her to keep a handle as AG without giving oxygen to conspiracy theorists.

Lynch always had the power to make Comey stand down. Obama still has that power to ask for his resignation as president.

I hope the intern that posted that tweet gets executed for treason.

Can't tell what's sarcasm and what's not these days on PoliGAF threads.

Yeah. Just doesn't look good at all. First Comey, now this, so close to the election. Something is going on.

Both sides will think the election was rigged.

I hope the intern that posted that tweet gets executed for treason. We need to make sure the FBI realizes what will happen if they want to try to influence the election through completing public records requests.

It's tough to tell if there's a hidden /s or not.
Maybe that's a sign of mastering the art.

This is just hysteria run amok. The files themselves are nothing important or particularly interesting, just like the Fred Trump posts. But there's a bunch of sensationalist reporters out there seeing signs in everything right now.

My narrative? I'm voting for her. This defensiveness on the part of the Hillary die-hards has to go. It was not unarguably wrong for Comey to do either of these things. This is a high-profile case. It's an unprecedented case. And the people voting deserve as much transparency as possible.

You'll disagree, sure, because it has the perceived effect of damaging your preferred candidate. But the government would work better for the people if this level of transparency was the status quo, not the exception.

I'm voting for Hillary out of necessity, nothing more, nothing less. Personal attacks suggesting otherwise are at the heart of the problems this election has caused.

Some rich dude just afforded to get this released now. Honestly this won't change things as everyone has already made up their minds.

Most people won't pay attention to it.

It does seem like this is norm for this account, though (Just going by the pics of tweets here). Why, I dunno. Year-long gaps between info dump tweets is just inefficient.

Yes it was (you know actual experts on the subject widely are in consensus on it), no it wasnt an unprecedented case, and there is departmental protocol for a reason. You follow it because it is explicitly built to allow you to avoid politicizing the instution.

He failed, he is an abominable FBI Director and thankfully Hillary will destroy his career when this is over.

There is no argument anyone needed his piece of shit opinion on how careless Hillary is. No argument to release email info but not Russian hacking info. None. No justification, and certainly no justification for you or anyone else to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Oh so your argument now is not that what he did wasnt obscene but that it should be the status quo. Well, that is awesome. Of course, the reason people dont comment on ongoing investigations - and why it is demonstrable you have not thought this through - is because you risk biasing a population even with the appearance of impropriety.

You risk undermining innocent until proven guilty, and risk peoples ability to get a fair trial. Worse still during an election, where you see the deplorable results ... People fill in the void of info with conspiracy theories and bullshit. Your imaginary right to think you deserve to know everything an agency is doing does not supercede the actual rights people have to fair elections and trials.

That is why Republicans and Democrats alike have criticized this. It benefits nobody except the miserably ill informed. The results have already been disastrous.

I'm voting for Hillary out of necessity, nothing more, nothing less. Personal attacks suggesting otherwise are at the heart of the problems this election has caused.

Out of necessity. Please, spare us all.

so that FBIAnon person was right? I remember reading that thread and closed it out. I hope that amount of corruption I remember reading is not true.

The FBI is making America great again

Ponpo, your post inspired me to write a long ass Facebook this morning that I'm sure will get a lot of push back:

I think what some people of a certain demographic in this country (white men) don't understand in this country is that you can't win over political minorities to a certain party (GOP) by delegitimization of political candidates that look like them. If you are a person of color or a woman, chances are pretty high you've been discriminated against in society or the workplace or in school or somewhere else in your based on a social status you have no control over.

So when the first person of color becomes President, but has to deal with 8 years of innuendo about not even being from America, we people of color know understand the attempt of being made to feel like "the other." When GOPers are already talking about the impeachment process and never approving any Supreme Court justices under a potential President HRC, most women know what that marginalization feels because they have felt it at some point in their lives.

I guess what I'm saying is that we see you, and we know what you're doing. Please feel free to disagree with us on policies based on their merits, but don't delegitimize us because of our melanin, sex organs or ancestry.
