Features you'd like in the next iPhone

Nothing huge. Continuously improving on the hardware design is something I know I'll get. I guess if I had to pick one I'd say less bezels but the same screen sizes. That would be baller. Not sure if apple will eventually go that route or keep them at the same dimensions and increase the screen sizes themselves. Not sure which I'd prefer tbh.

Ah, definitely drop 16gb base model, which I'm confident in. I guess I always want better battery life on any phone I ever owned so not sure that's worth mentioning. Eventually I'd like them to switch to AMOLED but I understand that's more of a supply constraint than a volume constraint. Samsung wouldn't be able to make enough of em and apple won't divide their lineup that much. Thankfully their LCDs are well above all others so it's fine.

For iOS 10 I want notifications re-worked from the ground up:

Unified Notification pool - Merge all notifications into one pool that is visible on all devices. Any notifcation that does not have an accompaning app on the current device should explicitly say so.

Notification sync - If I dismiss a notification on one device, it dismisses on all Apple devices, iOS or OSX. There is notification sync for things like Facetime, and some third party apps use it, but it's not enough. It needs to be an OS-wide, Apple mandated feature.

One click delete all - The Apple Watch has a single tap to delete all notifications, which is great. Every Apple device should have this.

App widgets. Basically a mixture of android widgets and Windows phone live tiles.

The iPhone is a beautiful device, but damn is iOS a snooze fest.

This looks like a cluttered mess to me.

Calendar & weather is viewable from the Today pane in the shade and currently playing music is accessible via Lockscreen or control center.

Is that like customising different colours for different notifications ?
Something like that. Like in my nexus 5 where I get a white led blinking for missed call, sms etc while green for app notifications like email, social media etc.

Thats what I really missed on android. Sometimes I dont even know I had a missed call or sms because theres no led notification

Calendar and weather are perfect examples of glancable information - you want that surfaced in front of you. In the today view that is still hidden behind a swipe down and then tapping the today button. If you're going to do that you might as well just open the bloody calendar.

I'd much prefer the option of widgets like that example. If you think it's cluttered then don't use it. I think it makes much more sense than Apple's current definition of widget which they seem to think means 'hide it away where you can't see it'

This x100 especially notification sync. Since getting the Apple Watch my notifications are piling up on my iPad.

You can swipe down from any point in the OS and see the information. This is the same amount of steps as hitting the home button.

No physical home button, all on screen navigation.
Dual front facing speakers.
Standard non proprietary USB connection.
Open source OS.
SD card support.
Amazing battery.
Have you checked any Android phones? I've heard they offer most of what you're asking.

Hardware:

-OIS for pictures and video on the smaller model
-better battery life
-increased screen resolution
-4K/60fps video recording
-USB 3.0 support via Lightning

Software (solved by jailbreak but nice to have for all users):

-Let users set the default applications
-More customization in iOS
-NoSlowAnimations
-SwipeSelection
-Clear all notifications

The home screen is long overdue for an overhaul. Widgets, dynamic menus, or whatever creative UI Apple wants to make. That's the obvious next frontier.

Other things like resolution, removing bezels, wireless charging etc will come with time I'm sure.

Increased screen res and better battery life do not go hand in hand. Especially when you're talking a phone as thin as the iphone and it's only getting thinner. I've never looked at a recent iphone display and thought to myself that I wish it was higher res. I prefer the better battery. I know some will say why not both but it's not going to happen. iphones aren't suddenly going to get fat or bigger.

I'm always shocked people want the homescreen revamped. How much time do you spend on your homescreen? I'd say I'm 95% of the time in an app. 5% on the homescreen. And yes that's on android. The only widget I find genuinely useful is my calendar but even that's a take it or leave it kind of thing for me. That's why I thought widgets in the notification panel were a decent compromise. I guess I'd like the ability to customize my grid in terms of placement but that's about it...though I'm sure apple considers their grid too iconic.

Oh ya THIS too.

I had everything color coded on my S5, green for Facebook, blue for emails, red for texts, ect.
All I had to do was glance at the phone and I knew what type of message/notification was waiting for me. I really miss that

I actually like how this looks and wouldn't mind it in iOS. But the reason it won't and can't come right now is because of the way iOS arranges icons when you rotate. On android they remain in place but the grid rotates. On iOS they retire themselves and wrap to the new width or in some cases it keeps the same column and row count but squeezes and stretches each grid square. I actually do wish they would remain in the same place on the grid on iOS when rotating. Then we could get live icons like that. I'd want a large clock and weather and small everything else. But I don't see apple doing it unless their hand is forced.

As for removing the home button. Well the only real reason it's still around right now is Touch ID. If they could figure a way to scan your finger through the screen they could remove it but they probably won't because it's iconic. It's what makes an iPhone recognizable. The asymmetry of the design and the always round home and speaker line. That and the always on the right rear camera because of the always centered iSight camera on the front. These are design cues Apple will probably not move away from for a long time.

I think Weather could easily retain its normal size and display that info. Just display a number on the icon (like calendar does), with the current weather as the background.

I still think they'll keep the home button, but not for any design principles, but because it's part of the iPhones profile. It's the rectangle screen and the home button. Those are the elements that haven't changed ever, and it's how you tell it's an iPhone out in the wild. I think that's important to them.

Wireless charging is a big one, but I feel as if they won't do it because of lightning cables unless they require a cable to plug into the charging dock.

I find no use for wireless charging. I use my phone all the time while it's charging and I really don't mind plugging it in; is there something I'm missing?

Personally when I'm at work it's super easy to set my phone down on a wireless pad and pick it up when I need it ensuring its always topped off as opposed to constantly plugging and unplugging. Not to mention if everyone starts supporting them we'll see wireless charging built into cafe tables and the like freeing the need to carry around a cable

Serious question: how the fuck are any of you seeing pixels on the current models? I have a 6 and cannot determine any. Is the 6+ that much of a difference?
I can't see pixels on my 6s+. I think people are reading the spec sheets a little to closely and tricking themselves.

Smaller footprint
Dual front facing speakers
Better design
Unexpected cool features

Btw, I must be one of the few who really likes the way iOS looks and works. Just unlock the phone and bam, all your apps right in front of you. It's practical and without unnecessary complication. It was one of the things that annoyed me when I went Android the first time, but quickly also saw the cool side of customization.

Headphone jacks take up a lot of space compared to other stuff in there, and are also easily the #1 source of water-damage vulnerability at this point. Apple should be offering battery-powered Bluetooth-based headphones that come with the phone as a default option with the iPhone 7 (and can charge via Lightning), with a Lightning-cable male to headphone-jack female adapter for people using legacy headphones. I'd much rather have the space headphone jacks take up being used for battery instead.

(The headphone jack is also the top constraint on making the iPhone even thinner, for what it's worth, but I'm happy with the current level of thinness and would even like the phone to be marginally thicker if that's what it takes to eliminate the camera bump and improve battery life).
Wow, you going to eliminate headphone

32 gb model is all I'm really clamoring for. I have no use for 64gb but 16gb is a joke.
Ah, definitely drop 16gb base model, which I'm confident in.
Drop the 16gb base model
- No more 16GB. 32GB entry level
drop 16GB
16GB, just die please.

Some of us survive on 16GB. People wanting a higher starting storage will only make future models more expensive.

Apple are insane on storage pricing though. There is no way that the difference in price between the 16 and 64gb iPhones or the 128gb and 256gb MacBook pros is anywhere near the actual cost. I doubt it would push the price up that much to do a 32gb model.

- Better battery life
- Smaller bezel
- Non-protruding camera
- Less rounded design. I find the 6+ a little too slippery when not using a case.

Inductive charging would be nice, also doesn't it being thinner each time just impact the battery life?

Improved Siri too.

Most of the features such as faster hardware will happen as usual, as with new features that are great such as 3D Touch.

I don't understand the appeal to "wireless" charging. Aren't you even more limited by having to leave your phone on the charging unit? I have a 6 foot charging cable and outlet right next to my recliner. Let's me use my phone and charge it.

That with the iPad charger and it goes from 20% to 90% in less than an hour it feels like - never understood the battery draw on these phones. My 6plus gets me through all day no problem but I don't use facebook and my wifes phone dies a lot quicker with the app. Using the web site for the limited times I am on it works a lot better and looks the same to me.

I honestly don't know what I'd change.
I have a 5s and it's the best phone I've ever used.
My only problem is that it's a bit small but once I get a newer model that won't matter anymore.
Maybe a better front camera?
Maybe better battery life but I've heard the 6 plus has fantastic battery life so I don't know.

EDIT - Siri needs to be improved. Although, does anyone actually use Siri?

-4.3 inches screen with the same resolution of the 4.7
-Thicker phone (~9mm) with bigger battery
-USB Type-C
-Fast charging

That's all, i don't even want new processors or features just give me this.

There are a lot of features listed that are already in current iPhones/iOS.
Faster charging? Use the iPad 12W charger (officially supported!)
Want to delete all notifications? iOS 9 lets you do that.
Better front camera? 6S has it.

The iphone 6's major flaw is that it's speaker is on the bottom side of the unit. Playing a YouTube video cripples volume for me sometimes, a thumb will be resting on it cleanly
