FF7 Rebirth is selling well, third game won't be scaled back, development progressing smoothly, game content complete

"The second entry, FFVII Rebirth, has been doing very well on both PS5 and PC. I know some fans have expressed concerns, but please rest assured, we'll be able to deliver a proper, high-quality third installment."

Hamaguchi also says that work on the next title is progressing smoothly. "Development is going extremely well, and the game is shaping up nicely. A lot of the content is already playable, and the game's direction and form are firmly set in place. Right now, the team is united around refining everything."

I keep forgetting that I bought that piece of shit game. Sorry guys, I'm part of the problem. 😞

I like Rebirth, but man, is it bloated as fuck.

Edit: Also Square, can we get some news about Dragon Quest 12 and Kingdom Hearts "4"? Come on!

Can't wait for one of the most important games of all time to finally it's stop getting hacked to bits and to get its wacky kingdom hearts level convoluted bullshit ending.

I never finished Rebirth because of the bloat ☹️

Had no issue beating Remake!

I'd love to finish Rebirth and think I just gotta power through the mainline story and ignore the rest.

Happy there's a third game coming. FF7 is still important to me after all these years.

I pretty much only did the main story and the character specific quests and didn't feel it bloated. I like the fighting system but couldn't muster motivation to do the rest of the content.

This is just what I was about to ask and you answered the question for me, thank you.

What Final Fantasy 16 did that was annoying was to include the filler in the main story. As long as FF7 R's is optional, then I'm perfectly fine with a bit of content bloat.

I'm not done with the main quest yet, 90+ hours in :messenger_mr_smith_who_are_you_going_to_call:

Note to any new players: skip most of the Queen's Blood and piano stuff, do the Protorelic, Lifespring, and Classified (unique) battles; all the Chocobo unlock minigames (unfortunately), find the Summon intel, and do the sidequests. Look up a guide for the Enemy Skill Materia, you only need to Access all the enemies in the Grassland to start that questline, and trust me, you want it.

Liked Remake and love Rebirth.

Can't wait

(Btw, I'm a dipshit who doesn't have the attention span to play RPGs, so don't take this seriously. I'm happy for all you weebs.)

I completely burned out on FF7 Rebirth after 32 hours. One obligatory, dull activity after another. Hours spent just trying to acquire swimwear (!) and make the story move along a little bit. In the open world it's just Ubi busy work from 2005.

The world, and especially the cities, are beautiful. Perhaps the most beautiful ever in an JRPG. But it doesn't feel alive. Empty shells as NPCs, a handful of incredibly boring fetch quests, a million minigames, each one worse than the last, repetitive activities with the uber-annoying Chadley constantly blaring in your ear. Even the boss fights have become more frustrating because, after a mandatory hour of card games, you're thrown in completely unprepared with teammates you've barely used. And they are often too hectic for the camera. The fun content - story, character interaction, and genuinely challenging battles - is superficial and far too fragmented.

How did they screw this up so badly? Who thought this would be fun for the fans? How hard can it be to create some interesting quests in that beautiful world and otherwise just let the player grind and experiment with materia, just like in the original? If necessary, throw in some bounties like in FFXV. But above all, keep the momentum going! They've created a beautiful world, but have no idea how to fill it. Out of desperation, they just copied Ubisoft and the Yakuza games. Modern Square-Enix is truly dead. Creatively bankrupt. I honestly felt like I wasted my time with this game. How the hell did this ever end up on GOTY lists? I enjoyed the first game, fiished it twice, but this is shit.

Can't wait. Other than the boring Cait Sith section and the piano bits (which I'm utterly dogshit at), I absolutely adore what they are making.

Perfectly compliments a modded up original and Crisis Core.

Combat in Rebirth is top notch too, really wish it could be retro fitted into Remake.

I mentioned before, that these games will keep on selling for years. Whether that's when they launch on a new platform, or they see discounts or when they announce the final game, people who will play Remake and Rebirth because the overall reception is very good. Then someday they will probably do some kind of remastered trilogy bundle on PS6 with graphical upgrades.

The majority of fans and not just the critics seem to find it very fun and have rated it very highly.

A whopping 145 critic reviews and yet holding above a 90 meta is very uncommon.

The game has some excellent side content, yes a lot of less well thought out stuff too, but still tons of great stuff around the main story line and more than most games I have come across.

The chocobo racing could have been spun out into it's own game.

Happy to hear. Remake was fantastic, hard difficulty was an amazing experience.
Playing Rebirth my jaw dropped every chapter as the world kept expanding and then realizing every region is connected.
Day one for Part 3.

I love Rebirth. Still have a few chapters left before I'm done with it though. I agree it has bloat but I think it's incredible and you don't have to do every little thing.

I really really disliked Remake, still wondering if i should give Rebirth a chance.
I hated Remake because of my high expectations and loved Rebirth because I had really low expectations.

Remake is a linear piece of shit with too much fanservice. Rebirth is way closer to a Final Fantasy than any entry since X. Yes, there's "bloat" like any open world game, but also a ton to like. It offered different environments, a world to explore, ton of side content that makes sense. The story is nonsense and the character cringe, but at least it's not 5 hours of content spread over 30.

I don't know how to feel about the third one, but I'm welcoming more of Rebirth.

FF7 Rebirth is as close to a modern Final Fantasy masterpiece as it's gotten, IMO. Definitely one of the GOAT games for me. I couldn't believe it was a real game most of the time and how much content, fun content, it had while maintaining such a good pacing (I wouldn't consider it bloated at all).

They can take their time, though. I've yet to start my platinum run for FF7 Rebirth. And I will definitely be getting the 3rd entry. I even hope I can get the collector's edition.

Platinum is really hard. I liked the hard VR battle gauntlets you do for platinum because I really enjoy the combat system, but the hard minigame challenges really tested my endurance since I didn't like a few of the minigames like cactuar crush.

Still no confirmation that they AREN'T switching to UE5 for the final part? I remember a interview where one of the devs said they haven't decided if they will swith to UE5 yet.

.....open world....UE5......Sqeenix...the thought alone...

Game was a masterpiece. Always the miserable people who are the loudest on these forums. Thanks for funding the game though.

Glad to hear it's selling well. Word of mouth and all of those GOTY promotions seemingly made a big difference. Will probably get near the 5M range by the time the next one launches. I'll be in day 1 for the finale.

Those who don't like it can always play the near 30 year old OG. It's easily available. Everyone wins.

If a lot of the content is already playable, maybe we'll see a teaser at TGAs.

If they stuck with their modified UE4 then it will probably be very far along and I think it will be a late 2027 release.

If it's UE5 then 2028.

I am thinking they stuck with UE4.

i think the problem of FF7 rebirth minigame which people keep complain about is not about how many they add into game, but most of these minigame feel pointless, compare with game also has alot of minigame like yakuza

minigame in yakuza actually reward you something that worth your effort, minigame in rebirth didn't, for example the infamous gymnasty minigame in both game, everyone hate it because once you done it it reward your with a freaking champion belt that you might not need by the time you get it or just equip it for short moment and change it for something else better

I managed to get everything done but DAMN wasn't it boring near the end. I almost surrendered in Gongaga which has TERRIBLE traversal, but I soldiered on because I was told it was the last open area... and then I got hit in the face with several more open areas lol
