FF7 remake's latest staff interviews (contains some info on multi-release plan)

Honestly...I'm intrigued. People have waited so long to see a FFVII remake. Why not make it last? Why not make it the FFXIII-esque thing that goes on for a generation? Particularly when everyone reasonable knew that recreating FFVII on modern hardware, according to the expectations associated with the franchise, would be a massive and complicated undertaking.

This is interesting. I'm willing to let them experiment with this one. The original FFVII will still be there either way.

You think any of this mattered in the FFXV threads? No matter what SE said, folks used it as a way to continue to mock them. The change in attitude here is hilarious and I hope the FFXV defenders are getting a good laugh out of this thread.

Oh I agree. I think SE is in a damned if you do damned if you don't situation with XV. If they don't say anything people think there is an issue with development. If they say too much people get mad. Thankfully they'll have a blowout in March

Sounds like a cluster fuck.

They've remade previous FFs without butchering them, but the most famous one they have to change things to surprise players and divide the game into episodes. It's ridiculous and meant to grab as much money as possible.

If 4 guys in a basement can make somehing as expansive as No Man's Sky, a whole company can't remake a game from 1997? Amateurs.

There is a difference between games made with pixel art than 3D games with one generation leap in technology.

Cloud: Aerith, I found you.

Aerith: I want to tell you something, I'm preg.....

Sephiroth: Not today girl..........

You know what happens..

Cloud: Aerith.......

Sephiroth: Bruh, I just saved you from paying child support.

Cloud:I know bruh, I was about to say to Aerith that I'm going out with chick called Lighting, but thanks Sephiroth.

Sephiroth: No problem, Bruh!

Uh?

I'm just saying that I'll buy all the episodes there are, I said 7, could have said 49. Not misinformation there :)

Then you walked into a coincidence.

The other thread title jokes that FFVIIr is "part I of VII" and you have a bunch of people going into the thread saying "7 episodes WTF SQUARE??"

Not to mention No Man's Sky is procedurally generated. That game is just made by tweaking generation parameters...... they're not actually designing the whole scope of the game.

If only FFVII could be made by procedural generation :P

None of their previous remakes were on this level. Not a one. Their biggest ones were what? FFIII/IV for the DS?

I am.

part I of FFVII for a thread discussing a trailer that showed the starting of the game seems correct to me i dunno

ehehe

I see your point though :P

There will be a disc release on this game, right?

There has never been anything more sure than that.

I said this in the predictions thread before any info came out, but I think the added scenes would be things like fleshing out a story before the first mako reactor explosion.

Which, to be honest would be a warm, warm welcome.

I feel like a lot of hate from the FFXV thread comes from people who are jaded about Tabata and co. ripping as much of Versus XIII as they can out of XV. That, and because the game has technically been in development for nearly a decade. The Episode Duscae Feedback Tour didn't do them any favors either I think.

Of course with people waiting a decade to play as Noctis and co.'s game you're kind of screwed either way. People are gonna think you're game is in development hell until they're playing the full release.

I'm personally excited for that game. Can't wait for March!

Oh, yeah it was a coincidence. (let's hope it's not 7 though lol)

Word. FFXV threads on GAF eventually become such toxic environments that I've turned to avoiding them altogether. It's very disappointing.

The battle system is real-time, action feel. The degree of action will be "Dissidia > Kingdom Hearts> FF7 remake" It will be more tactical.

this. this seal the deal for me. i'm happy :)

now everytime i see someone is in denial about the combat system, i'll just show them this quote. thanks Nomura.

They'll just respond with a quote from Kitase that says different. We just need more gameplay, that'll fix it!

Sounds good sofar. But it also really sounds like Midgar is going to be part one, so that would be less than I thought it would be. But adding some sort of big climactic fight at Shinra HQ and ending it after the escape is going to be my guess now then for part 1.

This makes things a bit troublesome though because it would be hard to convince people to fork over 60 bucks for that if that's what they're gonna charge at least. Ah well it's all guess work at any rate, we should probably just be happy they're making the game(s) for now.

It's going to be a Trilogy and when they all come out there will be a collection containing all the three parts each on one disc, Calling it now.
Yup, that's my bet.

They said Remake is multiple titles, NOT episodes, there is a big distinction here. Titles suggests full length games, not just small several hour episodes. I reckon they will break it into three games, and have some anime or some other thing to complement the releases.

Using recent history as a barometer, this is going to be an unmitigated disaster.

That said, I think SE is trying to turn a new leaf, so while I am not willing to give them the benefit of a doubt, I will avoid voicing most of my reservations until we know much more.

I hope they are taking this as seriously as they should. They are in VERY dangerous territory.

Interesting point from the interview:

We are trying to make a new action combat system that definitely demand no action technique, and let you consider your strategy during the combat.

Does that mean they'll have a separate combat mode where you can pause and dictate character actions (like in Dragon Age Origin)? If this is the case, then that's great.

Most of the combat in the original FF7 is just holding down the X button and wait for each characters/enemies finish their animation so you can move on with it. The more action-y style would really expedite these encounters.

The only time you need to actually use strategy is boss battles. If there's a separate pause-and-plan combat mode, it'd be perfect here.

I've made a point to refer to them as "games" and not "episodes" because I really think they will cost $60 a pop but will also be 30+ hours each.

I'm really confused by everyone in the other thread calling them 'episodes'. SE has only said 'multi part series ' and 'multiple titles' which suggests a trilogy, more than one game, nowhere did they say 'episodic', the words have completely different connotations.

FF7 anime made by Trigger
DO IT

yeah I agree. we need at least 5 minutes long of combat only gameplay plus some explanation. that would make this real-time vs turn-based combat die down for a while.

I like this idea...I was having issues imagining how they would be able fully remake a game this big. Like in terms of areas of interest, it has many more than massive games like Skyrim or Witcher 3. This way they can have say three full games with all the content and more. Really hope they have a massive explorable world as well.

The fact that everything in the trailer (barring the small CG snippets) are ingame...it is already one of the best looking games out there...

Why does this game look further along than XV

It's a perception issue considering the historical context of FFXV -- the XV team are being transparent about all facets of the game and chronicling the changes that have been made which naturally lead one to think the game is still far from being completed.

VII has only shown trailers with polished parts of the game which lends to the notion that the game is further along.

We re all well aware that VII is way further off than XV is and it'll all become clear when the next big FFXV blowout happens. I can't wait for both, it's the golden age of RPGs again! :)

So essentially this is going to be like the original each part being on a different disc? (in this case downloadable)

assuming it remains like the original did when you reach a certain point the story will stop until the remaining parts are done?

if so I wonder if they'll let you free roam (if the world map is available of course)

Yeah.I don't think its gonna be Tell Tale Games' FF7Remake.

This sounds even worse than before. They say they do this so they don't have to cut content, then they add content is being cut anyway and probably replaced with some new garbage modern Square will think is any good. Then they say the combat is like Dissidia but even more brainless, because that is just too hard for today's srandards, gotta make this baby's first ARPG while fucking everything else up. Please pre-order for episode Genesis.

They said they want the action to be less based on physical execution and more on strategy.

It's probably not gonna be downloadable, it will be individual games, 'FFVIIR-1', with the story probably being roughly equivalent to major story points, but with everything fleshed and a more detailed world. Probably won't be able to free roam until second or third title? Kinda like how the original limits you to certain continents til you access the highwind.

When they say content is going to be cut, I bet they're thinking of the kind of things most people in here don't even remember.

There are a lot of weird story beats that I can vaguely remember that would be fine to leave on the cutting room floor. Like Cait Sith getting crushed in the Temple of the Ancients and showing up with a new body? Shit like that. Shit that no one actually cares about.

And probably be £50 a piece too.

Man I can't help but feel disheartened a bit by this. We all know a FFVII remake is the ultimate cash cow for SE but spliting it up like this is just screaming "give us your money"

Actually if each episode comes boxed what would happen if someone skipped number 1 and went straight to number 2? they'd have no save data so would charcaters auto level or would it not let them play?

So many questions
