FFS, it's not just video games anymore, now movies are getting 'patched'.

Trust me, movies (and tv shows) have already done worse than fixing sound issues.

You could argue that Hollywood done patching before video games.

The worst is yet to come. They‘ve already started ‚updating‘ re-releases of classic movies by removing offensive words and phrases. Better hold on to your old Blu-Ray and DVD collections, because those unaltered originals might be worth quite a lot in the future.

It definitely suggests they want to adhere to a very specific release time frame. I imagine everyone will start to do the same, trying to get those prime time slots.

With the development of A.I. it will only get worse. Scenes and voice lines will be altered, modified or "re-shot".

Apparently, 'Across the Spider-Verse' came out with a poor sound mix, and Sony is in the process of releasing a fixed version to cinemas.

I guess it was inevitable that Hollywood would catch up with the video game industry.

Thanks for posting! I was going to see it this weekend, but I think I'll wait until next week. I hate bad audio and mixing in movies.

In my mind, there's a pretty large difference between issuing an alternate cut years later, versus fixing technical issues while the movie is still in it's original theatrical run.

Stranger Things has gone back and redone VFX related stuff in earlier seasons.

It's gonna get more common.

I think this is a good thing, as long as it’s an improvement. The technology exists now that they can simply fix what they didn’t realise wasn’t quite right at the time.

Of course video games have taken it too far releasing broken products knowing they can fix them later, but I really don’t think we need to worry about movies going down a similar path, or at least not to anywhere near the same extent.

They polished up the sound mix, it’s no big deal.

Oh, no, we can't leave any trace of offense. They'll find a way to edit those pesky DVDs and Blu-rays. Maybe a SmartTV that can recognize what's being viewed and correct it with politically-conscious AI!

The disc just being the license to view the streaming film most likely.

What limitation are on blu-rays? Can they do 8K? Maybe VR films (if/when that becomes a thing)? THere has gotta be some point where easily made/low cost media is outstripped by the flow of streaming.

Digital distribution makes this practical. Back when everything was on film, withdrawing and striking thousands of prints was a huge liability.

That's one reason why I've started a movie collection.

Probably still crash afterwards just like the games, i haven't watched many films in quite a while now, but the thing that irritates me in films and modern TV series is how loud the music is, i would like a slider to turn it down, sometimes i can't hear the dialogue

The issue there is Blu-rays are catering to a crowd of very discerning people or those who can't get a fast enough Internet connection.

Streaming even on a decent connection can't reach the sender quality as Blu-ray can hold, and even downloading isn't much of an option as HDDs and SSDs aren't cheap enough for storing such large files.

I do think the industry will try to drop physical media at some point, but they might just mean a few small companies produce Blu-rays/the next physical media format for everyone, like has happened with vinyl and even cassettes.

This is the Blade Runner: The Final Cut of capeshit movies.

It also lends high credence to claims that Snyder got fucked because of decisions made above his pay grade. Had he been allowed to make the movies he wanted to make without constant studio interference, DCEU would have turned out a lot differently.

Isn't that what George Lucas did to the original star wars movies?

Jabba the Hut used to be a human looking person, then George patched it up by making him into a giant turd.
