FFVII: AC is "out"..

You know things are bad when even Barrett looks like "Gackt."

I thought so but I haven't seen it confirmed by somebody who has actually seen it themselves. I'm sure there will be fan-subs but I'd rather avoid that altogether as it would (surely) be a piss-poor translation.

Square's Italian and English subs are done; they were both running at the Venice Film Festival.

Fansubs aren't all that bad and a decent one should be available in the next day or 2. I saw it though, not sure why you can't post impressions when others are allowed to freely talk about new downloaded anime fansubbed episodes and whatnot but I was blown away. The action scenes and music are both a fanboy's wet dream. This plus a stand-alone plot is what FF:TSW should have been. :D

And that's what makes it even more confusing. If the subs are done, why aren't they on the DVD? :(

Simo, I'm sure some fansubs are very good but I really wouldn't want to compromise with this film. tbh I'd be more worried about not getting a perfect audio/video transfer than anything else, which is why I want the official DVD

I don't even like FF7, but I want to see this. I think it's because of the visuals. I don't even expect to like the movie, but I want to see it in motion. Is the music by Nobuo Uematsu?

Yes.... Uematsu and some tracks by The Black Mages (Uematsu's 'rock band' :D)

Fair enough, I was just pointing out that not all fansubs are bad. :) ANBU and Anime-Keep do provide some good fansub work though.

Is the music by Nobuo Uematsu?

It is. Quite a good score actually with old themes revisited (Tifa/Loz fight for example features the piano rendition of the "Battle Theme") and some new ones in there too.

Fuck...Imma have to replay Final Fantasy VII for the 9th time after I watch this...

heh, screw that...anyone know a site that has a quick summarization of the FF7 story? i dont want to read a whole lot but i just need to refresh my mind since i only played the game once years ago

No kidding - the music track that plays during the sample clip is better than anything he did in FFX, and it's nothing more than a low-key techno cue.

the only thing I'm concerned about is this so-called 'power ballet' that ends Advent Children. Some stuck up film critic from Venice got a real laugh out of it :\

I don't even know what a power ballet is, but the image of Cloud in tights is disturbing.

You mean music wise as in the "Calling" track or in regards to a particular "end" fight? If it's the latter then they're talking out of their ass. The fight is quick, epic and animated beautifully. Just you'll see! :D

What about Last Order: Final Fantasy VII? Is it "out" too?

Nope...Not yet anyways.

Awesome. The CG of Square plus the music of Uematsu. Can't go wrong there.

Gamefaqs has a plot analysis that'll help you out.

I think the critic was talking about the song played at the end/during the credits? It was compared to a cheesy rock love song from the 80's. :lol

Oh, :lol well that's because it is a cheesy 80s rock song. The end credits is in 2 parts though, the first being the traditional black screen and end titles music by Uematsu and then "Calling" kicks in as we see scenes of various landscapes and scenery etc along with glimpses of 2 characters. It's not really all that bad actually.

So, uh, anyone want to translate this? I have no idea what ohonto means.
It's going for "O RLY?". I mean, it is broken Japanese, much like O RLY is broken english.

I didn't take the guy's review that seriously anyway- he slammed the movie, having absolutely no idea what 'Final Fantasy VII' even was.

I look forward to reviews from people actually familiar with the game, AC being a 'sequel' and all. :lol

So, are there any subs out for this yet?

Not yet which is surprising as it comes with Japanese subtitles and the .srt file so really, any fansub group out there should of been able to knock the English subs by now.

All in due time ;)

By tomorrow morning EST, we should see something...

Because, you know, translating a 90 min movie only takes what? 90 minutes right? Especially by those 'fansubbers who are decent quality' according to you.

Expect subs within 24 hours but expect them to be utter shit. Any good subs, if there are even such things left in the fansubbing community these days, will be out later in the week.

I guess I'll have to wait at least 5 days until some decent subs are "released", since I won't spoil the movie with shitty speedsubs

How dare he review it as a movie!

That's not how you should be reviewing it as. People should review it as it is: a movie made for fans of of FFVII. It isn't made for anyone else.

EDIT: And fucking dammit, I'm going to hate trying to stay away from spoilers.

Yeah, pretty much the only reviews I would really listen to regarding FFVII are the fans. As for people who aren't, screw them, their not who it's targeting anyway. If they don't enjoy it's understandable but if a FFVII fan doesn't then I'm listening hard.

Hopefully the US release includes the original VA. I wouldn't mind picking up the Japanese DVD, but it's something that I've planned to watch with a few others the first time...and I know they would not appreciate watching a version of the movie without any English (subs or voice). :\

It's hardly a regular film. It isn't being released as a normal film would be and, really, shouldn't be judged as one. If you haven't played the game or know nothing of it, there is no point in watching this work. It seems like a sequel to the game in movie format. It's pretty much just a DVD-only thing with some very limited theatrical runs. This is a rather unique release. There have been plenty of films released that were billed as "for fans only", but in this case, that really IS true. I just can't see anyone unfamiliar with the game enjoying this at all (outside of seeing pretty visuals).

"That's not how you should be reviewing it as. People should review it as it is: a movie made for fans of of FFVII. It isn't made for anyone else."

Are you suggesting that FFVII fans have low standards ? ;)

Who gives a shit how they reviewed it anyway? If it's for fans-only then it's the reviewer's job to tell that to his audience -- particularly if that audience is largely non-fans (as in the case for Variety readers).
