FFVII: AC is "out"..

I'm not giving details since that's a no-no, but I figured I'd create the thread for impressions that no-doubt will start pouring in over the next 3-4 hours.

I'm waiting for the U.S. version, but I'd like to hear what people think of it.
 
No way I'm watching anything other than a DVD9 original on my WS TV. I'm importing it even though it's gonna cost me $60.

Why? It'll come to the US...for cheaper...and you'll be supporting JAPANESE STUFF IN THE US. Meaning that you might be casting your monetary vote towards a future of not having to import. :p

Actually isn't even the creation of this thread a no-no? Unless you're talking about the official Japanese release.

Dunno...mods are all over the place when it comes to this stuff. Figured it was a risk posting it, but I knew someone would eventually anyways..and probably in a much more graphic way than I did.
 
Uhh, wouldn't everyone who posted impressions get banned since it's impossible for anyone to have legal impressions at this point in time?

Are they going to keep the voices for the US version? Anyway, I can still cancel my order, it's just that I placed an order with amazon.jp on the first run print, so I don't want to cancel that until the last minute.

And actually delaying it in the US was the reason I decided to import it.

Maybe...it's completely feasible that stores have started getting the DVDs in, no? And people don't get banned for posting impressions/pictures when they get games/hardware early...do they? (e.g.: famicom gba micro thread)

I can always find a subbed version to understand the whole story. The visuals are too beautiful to blemish with subtitles anyway. :D
 
the retail edition has no english subs, typical of big profile releases, since they want to minimise imports

Feh, go ahead and buy a movie DVD for an insane premium that you'll never fully understand due to the language barrier. :lol

Just WAIT until the English version comes out and rent it. If the Eng version has voiceactors that you don't like (and not just because they aren't spitting asian words) buy the Jap DVD. It's not like they'll run out, you know. :p
 
Nobody seems to care about the discussion of completely unlicensed fan-subs, which are just as illegal as downloading FF7: Advent Children.....so I don't see why this should be a taboo topic for GAF.

Speaking of which...how long will it take for this to be fansubbed properly? What's the normal turnaround time for Japanese anime releases?

Not sure, but I've seen some releases in the past come out within 1-2 days of it's Japan airing. Not sure if that's normal or not. I imagine there's going to be a number of groups wanting to be the first to get this out, so I wouldn't be suprised to see subs within 24 hours. I think someone said that the leaked version has Japanese subs, so a group could probably just translate it off that very quickly.

Depends entirely on how shipping works over there... I know for dvds here, we get them early as hell.

Like the Inuyasha Movie 3 and the new DBZ Broly movie... we've had those for at least a month, and they're slated for 9/13. So maybe something similar could happen over there?
 
Yeah, I mean it's out tommorrow (?) in Japan right? I'm sure some people were able to get it early, places break street dates often. Plus it was screened at that film festival multiple times I think.

Not true... The movie has recently been screened for the press and test audiences, and there was already a published review in Variety.

So who are we to question any posters who may have been present at those screenings and would like to share their insider impressions?
 
A lot of places like Hong Kong and Singapore get the official dvds early and people sell/buy before the street date. There's an ebay auction for the limited edition of FF VII:AC from Singapore (pics of all of the extras, etc. so it is legit) and they have it in stock already.

I don't doubt for a minute that it is "out", and fans are probably subbing it now hehe.

I want the dvd also.. but I'm not going to pay an import price for it.. not to say I won't watch the movie sooner.. if the opportunity presents itself.. ::goes to introduce himself to his Japanese neighbors::
 
Yeah, movies and music have it bad. Japan has some pretty low piracy rates (comparatively) but no matter what--the ease of movie piracy is so damn easy I think a grandma could figure it out. Games, not so much...

I'll wait for the official release, not really -that- eager to watch it anyway.

For those who have the proper JPN DVD, does it have English subtitles? I can't explain how much I want this right now but I've been told that the JPN version doesn't have any English soundtracks or subtitles! It's so sad but I may have to wait until November before I get to see this :( And that would be US import since it doesn't even have a release date in Britain ffs!

somebody will subtitle this movie (poorly) in a matter of hours.
 
I thought so but I haven't seen it confirmed by somebody who has actually seen it themselves. I'm sure there will be fan-subs but I'd rather avoid that altogether as it would (surely) be a piss-poor translation.
