I think the problem here is how drastic Noctis' change is compared to his 3 bros who only got like a manbun, a different hairstyle and a new pair of glasses. It's not progression it's transformation.

I think you're looking too deep into it, this isn't Nier. The change in Noctis looks more like J-pop star to Yakuza member, not Japanese person to American person.

I don't necessarily think Old Noctis is a bad design so much as it doesn't really look like an older version of his younger person. Unless they do some sort of age progression scene where we focus and see him slowly age into this look, but even then it could be weird.

Yes. Look no further than Nier as an example of what a part of Square Enix think Americans like as protagonist design. Old, Ugly, and slightly balding character change. People here still ended up liking it because they felt it gave him more depth along with the change in his story and motivations. Old Noctis looks like he could easily fit in the Yakuza video game series, let alone look like a real member.

In close combat clearly what you should do is expose your chest and stomach so that it is much easier to stab you in the heart or the guts. Not to mention the stupid boots.

Fighting with an exposed chest isn't really new for Final Fantasy though.

Eh... Looking at the GIF on other pages, it does look like he goes from Asian to White. I think another person mentioned it but it looks like you could drop him into John Wick and not look out of place.

I love Aranea and Luna's designs. Even though Aranea looks like lightning lol. Punished Noctis looks great too even though he doesn't really look anything like his younger design.

I absolutely see it. It looked like shit in Chapter 0, but I think I love it now. People say he looks less Asian, but I think some features are emphasized here more than when he was younger.

I love it. It might not be a Nomura design, but I don't feel like the essence of Noctis has been replaced. He's just matured an insane amount and the makeover is probably too much.

Did Roen make that suit? It's the best suit so far, too. Tabata, ditch the outfit Regis had in Chapter 0 and give Noctis this look.

Tidus and Vaan are not wearing fighting clothes to begin with.

As for Sephiroth, he is the most powerful SOLDIER in existence. Obviously he doesn't need protection and the shoulder pads for example are just for fashion.
