FFXV: What's The General temperature of this Game?

I've basically avoided most of the FFXV circus, as someone who generally pines for Square RPGs doomed to never see the light again (a proper chrono trigger sequel, TWEWY sequel). I've never really been into FF, but with a lack of big scale RPGs coming over the horizon, my interest is being piqued. So this leads to my big question as an outsider, are we looking at another great game this year, or do all signs look bad?

Marketing seens to be almost no existant this close to launch. I have faith in Tabata, but no way the game will deliver on the ridiculous level of hype it generated from all these years.

We don't know...like all games is a matter of taste and it will be divisive.

It has a faithful following and skeptics. Don't get swept away by hype waves and do your research.

I've fallen off quite badly, mainly because I thought the 13 trilogy wasn't great, and also, I think going full-action combat akin to Kingdom Hearts does nothing for me.

You'll still hear quite a lot of hype for it though, I think XV absolutely has a chance to rekindle the fire people had for FF, but again, just does nothing for me personally.

I expect that it will be a great game that will have a lot of both hate and love like VIII does.

I have it pre-ordered but from what I saw and what I played in the demo I don't really like the gameplay. Seems very basic and not enough fast paced.
Still in wait and see period for me.

Might just platinum it as quickly as possible so it joins my 3 FF XIII platinum trophies.

These threads though.

Who knows. Combat is pretty mediocre if they haven't improved it from the latest demo.

Still wish they didn't release the Platinum Demo as it does an extremely poor job at showing how the game is played. The only snippet you get is at the very end as older Noctis and even then its against one large enemy with a small amount of weapons in a very small area.

Square Enix is probably putting most of their marketing push toward Deus Ex right now. I'm cautious about it. I'm not really a Final Fantasy fan and I really didn't like the combat in the demo.

I think a lot of people are put off by it, some are cautiously optimistic (myself) and others seem to think it looks great.

I've been excited for it for years but the more I see the less excited I get (despite not seeing anything I don't like). I'm still getting it and I'll make an honest attempt to complete it. I just hope it's something I like playing and not something that feels like a chore to play.

I want it to be good.

My versus hype is dead and buried. I just want this game to be good in general and am looking at it as its own product. I'm going in with zero expectations, but i am hoping they step up the marketing soon because i have not seen much, people could forget its actually finally coming soon.

I worry about SEs ability to tell a good story. Story has always been the main driver for me in long RPGs, so to me these games live and die by that. They are not satisfying and instantly gratifying experiences. If I like the story and characters I am much more favorable to sitting through it, but a game with better gameplay and a mediocre story with tons of long cut scenes and idiotic characters would piss me off. I'd just look at those expensive cut scenes and story segments annoying the shit out of me. Have a great story, or no story at all, and don't shove that shit in my face.

All I can say if you interested buy it, if not pass on it. Always do educated purchases by doing research and do not get caught in the hype PR machine or the Fans.

I'm very skiptical about the game ever since I played the demo and after every change Tabata made for the worst(IMO), but I will still buy it day one.

I know the gameplay(mostly combat) is not and will not be great from what I played/saw

as for OST we know it's gonna be God-tier

story and side quests quality is unknown for me and I won't spoil them.

Can't wait...

...for the next thread filled with panic, excitement, awe, shitposting, and pixel hunting.

but seriously, I'm super stoked for it. Can't wait to finally friggen play it.

The gameplay seems serviceable but not enough to sell the game. If the story and side quests are good then maybe? That hasn't been something SE has been good at for around a decade, tho

I'm looking forward to FFXV, but I've also kept pretty in the dark about it. I didn't play Episode Duscae, but I did play the Platinum Demo and thought the possibilities were pretty exciting. I'm an easy mark for Final Fantasy, though -- I loved 13-2, and liked 13, LR, and Type-0.

All signs certainly don't look bad. The combat can be improved and apparently people who care too much about graphics are finding a lot to complain about, but overall I think the game will have a low to mid 80 MC.

The demo left a sour taste in my mouth. Combat was terribad, not fun at all. It ran a bit like shit.

However, it was whimsical in a nice way and the music/sound was great. If the story is good, it'll be worth the lackluster combat. I'll probably pick it up since I'm a sucker for FF.

The game looks bad. Not from a graphics point of view, but almost everything else. Combat looks boring and is nothing FF fans want. The all-male cast of protagonists will get old soon enough (diversity is important). Story it's too early to tell. Same for environments and dungeons...but my gut feeling is that the game will be good, just not great. The whole Kingdom Hearts approach to combat is a huge downside to me.

Hoping for the best but kind of just expecting a mediocre experience, though I feel the mediocrity will attribute almost entirely to the combat gameplay.

sounds more like you are too invested in hating the combat system than anything.

?

I'm expecting poor story, poor gameplay, and poor rpg mechanics based off of the demos and footage I've seen.

Hopefully my expectations are low enough that I'll enjoy the game in September.

I'm almost positive it will be a very uneven experience but there will be one or two areas of proficiency that make it worth playing.

Lukewarm. Launching against stiff competition from SMT IV Apocalypse, DQ7 and Persona 5 in Japan. Squares own World of Final fantasy looks better even.

I wasn't a huge fan of the combat going by the demo, but I'm willing to give it a shot when it releases. It is very odd that marketing and hype levels are low for it this close to launch though. I wonder if that says more about the FF brand diminishing than anything else.

I hear there are multiple climates in the game, so temperatures should vary wildly. Hope the characters change clothes accordingly.

Real answer: You'll get the odd "looks like a boyband" comment here and there, as well as "tried the Duscae/Platinum demo. Didn't like it" but general reception seems pretty positive. People dig the open world I think. Personally it hinges on the story for me. I dig everything so far, but I'm worried the story (and especially performances. I'm tempted to play in Japanese for the first time in my life) won't be up to scratch.

I wish the combat was even close to being as fun as Kingdom Hearts. Even the 0.2 demo they had at E3 looks way more fun to play and got more positive reception than the XV showing. If it played similar to that my hype level would be way higher.

Actually combat is the number one thing I'm most worried about in XV. And the only thing I am not worried about is the music :/. I can handle some animu story jank and even empthy boring fields but if the gameplay itself is not actually fun that does a huge dent on a massive game.
