FFXV: What's The General temperature of this Game?

As much as I want this game to be a success, I am trying to temper my expectations.

After playing Platinum Demo and Episode Duscae, I think the game will be very polarizing to many people.

I'm expecting low to mid 80s Metacritic. It's going to be almost impossible for this game to live up to the hype.

No game does plus the meta doesn't always tell the truth *Coughs MGSV.

Edit: TPP controls great just in case but from a MGS fan perspective it's plain bad.

I'm assuming "MGS fan perspective" in this instance values Kojima's fun, but mostly nonsense story-telling over anything else and can't recognize immaculate stealth sim design when it's in plain view.

Meta ain't far off as far as MGSV is concerned.

I think it's more referring to the fact that chapter 2 had a ton of reused content for a obviously nonfinished game. But yeah I remember when ff13 came out, people were pretty positive for a short while. Then years later, we all woke up.

MGSV gave me 90 hours of stealth action perfection, so I'm not really going to cry over a cut mission, tbh.

Hey I said it had nothing to do with the game it self look yourself on the last page it apparently already loses so many categories. Nd it's not even out

Must be joke posts.

Nah, I'm completely serious, myself.

Unless the writing/acting and the graphics are going to significantly improve in the retail game, it's lost on those fronts already. It's not looking good for the battle system.

I get that the game isn't out, but you can't have had a dozen livestreams showing the game and two seperate demos and then also act like its a completely unknown quantity that we can't draw any conclusions about. We can, a lot of them are less than flattering (especially for a game that's ten years in the making) and once again: This thread would not be here if that were not the case.

It's not all roses with this game, dudes. *shrug*

Have they said if it remains the same as the two demos? As in, just hold the attack button and Noctis keeps attacking?

Platinum Demo represents the final combat system. It's missing components (party members, link attacks, orders, etc.), but yes, those are the final fundamentals of the system.

I haven't really been hyped since the Uncovered event but the new music released today has me a tad bit excited. I think I'm going to try playing the Platinum Demo again since I want to try and get the hang of the battle system more.

I have it pre ordered, but the action RPG element turns me off completely.

Give me old school atb, or a modernized FF13 battle system. If it plays like the demo, I'll shelve it like 8 and forget about it fast.

If the demos had been released titled The Last Story by Triangle Beenix then people would have dismissed it as buggy and boring with cringey writing and below-average combat.

But its an FF game so my prediction is that at worst it'll score in the low 80s on Metacritic and we will go through a month or two of denial before finally all agreeing that it was a massive disappointment and the mantra will be "don't worry I'm sure FF7R will be great".

So to answer the thread title, in all honesty, ice cold.

But anything u will say right now is an assumption. It is impossible to determine the quality of a 50 plus hour experience from what we have gathered. We have been withheld a plethora of information still. Anyone who is 100% certain on either side is just wrong

Calling out for NoctisVSstar.

I will honor the bet either way but due to the rumours of delay I challenge you to revise the metascore minimum to increase by 2 points if they end up being true.

My reasons being as follows:

1 point for relatively lenghty extra time for a crunch period of a large team.

1 point for the fact that due to late November release many big outlets will probably review the game on Neo hardware significantly increasing the potential of IQ and solid framerate. (I assume the bet is about PS4 metascore only?)

What say you? How strong is your faith in Tabata!

From 84 to 86.. Damn give me a sec to think it over.

Edit: ahh fuck it, you got a deal.

I'm 100% certain I'll enjoy it, that much is for sure.

I was surprised to see it launching next month. I remember just a few years ago when a new mainline FF game was an absolutely massive deal, and the forums would be going crazy discussing it around this point. But WRPGs seem to get far more traction and discussion these days.

One of the reasons for the bolded is that Japanese software houses seem to have lost the ability to compete at the same high level that western companies do, when it comes to big RPGs. The only one that was left was Square Enix and now even they can't release their biggest project in a timely manner. Or with decent quality, if the writing is on the wall.

86 is my threshold. Anything less than that and duckroll has the right to remove my tag and change my avatar.

Join me young one.

BELIEVE!

Guess I'll sink with the ship captain.. I won't abandon you I'm in.

Lol me too, but I was stating moreso on the merits of the game being excellent or not. I've never not enjoyed my time playing a FF game

We get a new FFXV thread like every few days tho haha

Hard to be taken seriously when not even a fraction of the game has been revealed. You haven't even experienced the turns of the story and the visuals look better than the Witcher to me. Honestly, even the Duscae demo battle system was better than what Witcher 3 had.

I think it's going to be a massive, but vapid game with tons to do (but doing them doesn't really feel fulfilling).

There's going to be bombastic set-pieces and stuff, but I won't particularly be invested in them given the type of main characters we have.

It'll also run like crap.

I'm secretly hoping the game knocks it out of the park, but I'll be going in with rock-bottom expectations.

Honestly, if this ends up being good, I'll be surprised. I'd like to like FF again, but I havent liked a game since 9. Maybe whatever audience they are targeting at this point is just so far from me that I wouldn't be expected to like it.

I'm hoping for the best but I would not at all be surprised with an average score of 80 or less based on everything we've seen and played so far.

We're only a month and a half* away though.

*Supposedly.

Lukewarm to me. Like how the game looks, the music, the setting, and the story so far. The combat I don't like at all tbh. Brings down the whole experience.
