Fight Night 3 - Three million polys per fighter

Uh, I don't think you quite understand the concept of a straw man if you think that's what it is.

But I'm not really surprised.

Position X: Putting millions of polys into fighters while ignoring other elements of a scene is bad.

Position Y (distorted version of X): Other elements of a scene are more important than the fighters themselves.

Attack on position Y: "But I firmly believe that the fighters are by far the most important thing to model in a boxing game."

Therefore Position X is flawed.

Surprised?

Except, and it's hardly surprising that you have reading comprehension issues, that's not my interpretation of his position.

My interpretation of his position was that we can't tell if they are focusing too much on fighters at an expense of other elements since we haven't really seen much of the rest of the game. The final comment was simply a re-stating of my position since there was nothing else to go on from EA: Given that we don't know where their focus is on other aspects of the visual presentation, I still feel the fighters are the most important aspect so I hope that remains the case (Note: Thus, this is not saying he disagrees or agrees with this position).

Don't confuse this with Fight Night on PS3, however. According to EA's Kudo Tsunoda, "The PS3 [version] is going to be a totally different game, just because the Xbox 360 launches before the PS3 launches. So it's going to be much more of a kinda Fight Night 4 PS3 version and Fight Night 3 Xbox 360 version."

EA not doing multiplatform?!?

Why do I get the feeling that by "totally different," they mean, "half the modes and features will be gone"?

Gives me some hope that the animation shown in the E3 trailer will still be there.

That is an interesting comment.

I hope Xbox 360 can compete next gen. I don't want just next gen graphics. I want next gen animation and physics and 60fps.

I bet you anything that it's 3 million in the modelling, and in-game it's reduced but uses the normal maps generated to make it appear so.

I doubt it's 3 million real time.

Secondly, it's not as impressive looking as the "next-gen" demo pics that were posted a while ago.

blim has 3 really high rez shots..

On second notice, what's with the absurd resolution? We already had posting of pics beyond normal resolutions this generation, why bother when 720p and 1080p is big as is next gen?

probably for print media or something... but that pic is just over 1080p, if the ps3 can manage to pull it off and i can find a tv that supports it, it would be awesome

That last pic looks nice!

Still I don't believe 3mil/sec x2x60, at least not in the finished version. What's the crowd going to look like?

EA could easily say 3mil right now because they haven't worked on scaling it down, and they can still do use those models in an empty warehouse environment, and then conveniently not say anything about it when they finalize the models and actually place them in a real boxing setting with awesome lighting, atmosphere, great animation, crowd, ringmen, ref, etc, leaving people to believe that they're still doing 3mil per character by not saying anything. I mean, even if they lowered it to 1.5mil or 1mil with certain techniques who the fuck would notice the difference? That would leave them a lot more room for all the other stuff, and to assure 60fps. If they sacrifice any of those other things so they can have a "we have the biggest model" wankfest, then they wouldn't even be making a real videogame.

3mil per fighter just ain't happenin IMworthlessO.

Are they actually claiming 3m per fighter? Who would like to rig that model then? :lol Or do they just mean that the characters on screen are derived from 3m base models using normal/v. displacement mapping?

Uhm...they don't look like 3m polys models at all.
I don't doubt it's possible with X360 and Ps3, but judging from these pics it doesn't look like they're using this many.

I remember Ati claimed Assassin Xenon demo was displaying 1m polys per frame for reference, and that 2m polys GOW model used for normal maps definately looks WAY more complex.

Do you really think we can trust as in-game X360 pics a pair of renders with a resolution of 2000x1125 pixels?

Hasn't EA given enough reasons to be laughed? :lol

That looks completely realtime to me, with imperfections and all. They have increased the resolution and the filtering, but all the in game assets are there and you can have a clear idea of how the game will look in a HDTV.

That being said, I'm not seeing those 3 million polys in those models. Actually, you can easilly spot polygon edges in them which leads me to believe that the 3 million polys models are the ones they're using for the normal maps. Looking at those backgrounds, it would make even less sense.

Maybe those specific boxers, but the faces in the X360 version don't look as real as the E3 PS3 demo.

^ PS3 E3 demo

There doesn't seem to be any real noteworthy gap between the two. As long as the 360 version faces still move and cave like that, I think you won't be able to tell the difference judging from this.

And that shouldn't be surprising, in Game Informer they said they'd look identical.
