Fighting Games Weekly | April 1-7 | And after 0-3, he has risen

Warranted rage for spreading misinformation!

Apology posted.
Lol console neophyte. Let the big boys handle the wars.

But good on you for apologizing. A lot of people just come in, make drive by posts and aren't heard from again when they are exposed.

Is the venue as desolate as it looks?

They never seem to pan to the audience, but the front rows are always looking empty.

There was only one time things got hype and you actually heard people go OHHH. That was the one time I thought there were other people there besides the international players.
When they referred to this as a "Major" on commentary I both laughed and wanted to slap them.

Yes, unfortunately it is as desolate as it looks, about two thirds of the seats are full, there are small (I think money) matches going on in the back and the sides with old skool Street Fighter games on Dreamcasts etc. not many people watch those until say Tokido or Xian or someone steps up.

The hall in it self is not that big, so you (at least I) don't really want it too crowded, also the obvious: I saw exactly six ladies to the hundred people that were in that hall, three of them were volunteers.

Anyway, it was still fun, watching clutch/close matches (that's when everyone cheers) by the pros, and it's quite easy to approach and say "Hi" to the likes of Gootecks, Wong, Xian, PR Rog, Ortiz!!!..even Tokido and Mago. Very friendly bunch, especially those Japanese. It's also fun to crack jokes with the people you sit next to, watching people bet, hand over ten-twenty bills between each other...lotta betting going on! It's almost like this, being in a thread or a stream chat, but even better, b/c you are there in person, laughing at the PR Rog missing Ultras and getting beat by Joey etc. Also nice and rare to see and cheer for the CCG peeps, when they beat those Uhmericans once in a while :P

Anyway, as a dude from Toronto that has been (casually) following the FG Community for over five years and never had a chance to catch EVO live or even any of these West coast Canadian FG events before, finally being there in person is pretty bad ass.

Might go again tonight!

Thank goodness I didn't miss anything important. Now watching the stream. Had to go out and get some chicken and a few drinks beforehand.

So, at work today I thought of a glorious thread title name for next week, inspired both by Bioshock Infinite (non spoilery though, don't worry), and Spooky's Jesus Christ tweets to Fanatiq:

Fighting Games Weekly | Do Not Trust the Man With The AGE In His Promo Code, For He Is The False Shepherd

...Actually now that I think about it that's probably way too long.

;_;

Stream monsters like crazy shit happening and and watching folks get blown up. Who needs thinking when you can just watch people get destroyed.

Yeah but I don't think that's why people dislike the game. Doesn't the RTS community have more players and viewers than fighting games?

First time I am hearing about this PSEye stuff.

Xbox will have Blu Ray where as Sony doesn't have to pay for their own tech. Neither consoles are going to have hardware BC.

Will MS have to pay Sony royalties to use Blu-Ray or not? I remember how Gametrailers would always light on fire when this topic is brought up.

SFxT is not THAT strategic but its very footsie/spacing oriented, more so than even AE. You aren't going to see vortexes, FA shenanigans, all in one OS's or crazy mix ups although I guess the tech hasn't been developed that much for the game yet.

Different demographics, really. But I think a big reason why Marvel is such a big deal in the community is because of the nature of what's going on with it basically. Familiar IP plus the fact the game is built around blowing your opponents up with all the shit is going on.

I simply think it's silly to assume that's why people hate the game because it's too footsies oriented or something. SF4 started out with tiger shots, hadoukens, yoga flames, and sonic booms being chucked across the screen left and right just couple of revisions and additions later we have the game we have now.

You can get destroyed in SFxT =(

You flailed way too much, manz. Deer in headlights in your matches. =x Do you live in Vancouver or something, man?

Fighting games in general don't have many strategies. They do have a lot of tactics though. There are some shenanigans in SFxT though but not too many people playing it regularly enough for it to proagate. CADC still isn't used as much for example.

I agree with that. But for cats to say "my gaem takes moar skillz than urs!" is silly. People are going to play what they find enjoyable for them.

Marvel also has a strategy and team building element to it which is a big appeal about it. You can really tell who are team specialists (ie. People who develop their own team and strategies) versus those who bandwagon whatever the latest top tier is. You aren't going to find anyone play the Spencer/Frank/Dante team better than Bee... he developed the strategy and tech of the team almost by himself which is no easy task in this game.

Yeah that's the part of Marvel I find the most appealing.
