Fighting Games Weekly | April 8-14 | Cena-Factor validated, WWEsports remain stAGEd

There are about ten people I'd save here for $5 a piece, I think.

Here's the Firebrand salt uploaded on Youtube.
Watched ten minutes so far. I love the cawing taking place. Looks like they are late to the party though. Karsticles taught me the horror of Firebrand's unblockable nearly a year ago. I remember showing it to a friend and my cousin as soon as I found out lol.
I had a dream last night everybody in FGC-GAF got banned, and I had to pay $5 each to bail ya'll out. I think it was because I was browsing this site late night, and you have to buy things on Steam in increments of $5...
Steam sales make for weird dreams, man.
I wouldn't get used to EVO running 8 games. I'm sure EVO is running this many games this year is because half of these games aren't going to have big turnouts, especially since there won't be a bunch of shirt monsters this year.
Yeah... it involves a massive number of people, security, organization and space on a scale that is going to wipe the EVO staff out even more than usual. I wouldn't blame them if they sat at seven games or so. Even five games pisses Wizard off. :P
I definitely agree and that was the point I kinda wanted to make. It's no secret that EVO's foundation was built on Capcom fighters, but to call it out as Capcom centric when this year's event will feature 5 non-Capcom games is nuts.
Imagine someone rings your doorbell and decks you in the face every Monday at 8AM on the dot. After two months of doing this he shows up this Monday with a bag of ice, some medical supplies and a box full of brownies. You still ain't gonna trust that guy.

I mean... the logic is not that hard to understand. I'm neutral here, but it surprises me that people can't see how someone would be sceptical. It's like Apex this year. Apex 2012 was a mess of a tournament for traditional FGC people so many were sceptical and they were totally in the right to feel that way. Luckily it turned out great. I expect the same to happen for this year's EVO.

Honestly, I don't think TFC will be much bigger than Final Round this year, but over time it will become something bigger.

I really hope that's the case to. When you first mentioned it, I was thinking convention center or a hotel with 30,000+ sq ft of space for just the main ball room. Of course I was thinking too big as they're not ready for something like that yet. What they have in Raleigh is essentially what they had in ATL. Hopefully in 5 or so years TFC can provide that impressive size and scale that we come to expect at EVO.

Why the Fall Classic will be THAT good? I think I've missed some news about it

I was just thinking about how Marvel is probably the biggest fighter in the US offline scene and east coast Marvel > west coast Marvel. Combined with how Evo is quite a trip from the east coast, it would make sense for the east coast players to just skip Evo and go to TFC instead.

Honestly, I don't think TFC will be much bigger than Final Round this year, but over time it will become something bigger.

This too, it isn't like going to happen on the first tourney.

This analogy seems kind of weak.

This is what I think of Microsoft right now.

Dropped it a bunch of times and proceeded to beat it with a hammer. LOL.

Okay this is so free I don't know what to say.

Drew Grimey blocked one incoming mixup in all 9 games.. Only to push buttons that one time and get himself hit again. Not only that, he didn't try to XF grab once. NOT EVEN ONCE. WTF. Yeah that was mostly a dominating performance from ApologyMan, but it was also just a clear lack of knowledge from Drew Grimey and also a lack of adaptation.

The Firebrand sounds and them doing the theme song in the back though :lol :lol :lol

You can't XF grab that. He tried X factoring numerous times but it wasn't going to work.

You are confusing incoming mix ups with true unblockable set up. Mix ups imply that you get out of it if you guess/read right... you can't guess/read in this set up.

What TFC should do is try to concentrate on getting the Euros over, as it's cheaper for them. Ryan Hart should be the first priority.

KOF at TFC should be fun, local KOF scene is pretty strong.

Indeed

I've tried for the hell of it and it don't work against this. Calling this a mixup is like calling Viper's charged focus attack during blockstun a mixup...

Noticed this late but you bailed me out too bro, right?

....Right?

Unless I am missing something seems like you just took the casing off. The actual core console still seems in tact.

Also while everyone is mad about the whole always online thing you shouldn't be taking it on the 360. 360 is still a very solid console with good games and with the next Xbox most likely not going to have BC it means that you should hold on to your old 360.

I could've swore I've seen it done with Jam Session or people have been locked down and grabbed through it. What makes the difference? Does it only work when they're grounded or what? (Which makes even less sense to me)

Firebrand with Jam Session unblockable isn't a true inescapable set up, it doesn't hold the opponent in block stun long enough. The Skrull assist does hold you long enough and that is why it's the ONLY assist in the game that allows the death loop.

If you are grounded you can attempt an invincible alpha counter but Tenderizer also removes that option.

Can this team be the new "top tier" team? Like Morrigan/Doom/Vergil, Wolverine/Spencer/Doom, Zero May Cry...

I actually went through six of them. Launch system, first Elite, Halo 3 model, white Elite, latest black elite and then the Slim. All of them malfunctioned except for the Slim which has it's problems now and then too. That model right there refuses to open the disc drive and the ethernet port for some reason died on it's own so it needed to be taught a lesson. As for me, I'm done gaming on the 360 for the rest of the generation.

I'm so glad I waited until the first wave of 360s had passed. RROD was an absolute disaster. That would have sunk any other gaming company full stop.

Dormammu

He can set Firebrand up just fine.

That's a lot of faulty Microsoft consoles.

Someone call Karsticles. I haven't played UMvC3 in like nine months. I won't forget an hour of repeatedly getting bodied by a Pelican. That much I know.

Dormammu

He can set Firebrand up just fine.
Yeah Karst explained his set up but his set up requires one extra TAC guess for him to 3 for 1 your team. He needs to land a successful TAC to build the meter required for the whole set up.

Can this team be the new "top tier" team? Like Morrigan/Doom/Vergil, Wolverine/Spencer/Doom, Zero May Cry...
All unblockable teams are at least high tier teams. This one is too front loaded and too reliant on either FB doing the death loop or Skrull making XF3 comeback. A way more solid Firebrand team is Firebrand/Doom/Ammy or Firebrand/Dorm/Doom. Even if Firebrand dies the other 2 players can play their game and mount a comeback. The 2nd team is more equipped to handle MorriDoom as well.

Spider Man + Magneto and X-23 + Dante + TAC infinite character teams are also as good as those two teams mentioned... it's one TAC guess wrong into 3 characters dead. They are basically a Zero team only Zero has a superior neutral game but the character deaths aren't guaranteed.

People were wondering why nobody was actually running this team a year ago.
Yeah this right here. The death loop was found the first week of the game. There was a lot of panic about Firebrand being top 5 in the game.

With liberation assist?

I don't think Dark Hole lasts much longer than Jam Session.
Jebailey please... read the Marvel thread from time to time:
You need 1 TAC, but basically this is what you do:
1) Hit opponent with Firebrand.
2) TAC to Dormammu.
3) Dormammu infinite to kill character 1.
4) Stalking Flare -> Luminous Body.
5) Unblockable.
6) Combo, end in Dark Fire -> Stalking Flare (XFC), Charge 1D2C, release 1D2C to kill character 2.
7) Charge 2D1C, release as new character comes in, Stalking Flare -> Luminous Body, unblockable, end combo in Dark Fire -> Stalking Flare, 1D1C, Purification x Chaotic Flame (> 1 million damage).

All three characters dead from one successful TAC infinite.

Dormammu's TAC infinite is pretty hard though, I hear (never bothered to try), but you can swap Dormammu out for Trish and do a similar strategy (less effective since you don't have Liberation XF damage and meter gain).

You also have my DHC glitch unblockable setup and Dark Fire -> Stalking Flare clears the screen if you want to get Dormammu in play safely for Hidden Missile + zoning play. So it's basically like FChamp's Magneto/Dormammu/Doom team, but if you get a TAC you win the game.

The funny part is that FChamp can easily incorporate this into his own team but he's too god damn stubborn to use it and he thinks Firebrand is too cheap.

I think he might have been using Morrigan(anchor). Getting the meter in that case is easy as pie.

Edit: There it is. Everybody sit tight. I'm just gonna go through some PTSD real quick.

I went through about six of them too. But I never once had to buy another one. Microsoft replaced them all every time. Still fucking bullshit though.
It was kind of an unspoken agreement that everybody just wanted to have fun until Chris G unlocked Morrigan. Now it's very quickly hurtling towards the MVC2 days.
I think FChamp did it first when he made Hidden Missiles standard in his team and then won EVO with it.

There's no lock up on the air assist like the Skrull one, and Firebrand can, mid-combo hard-tagging or via TAC, bring in Doom to fill his weakness: the damage!
Or Ammy and Dormm can do that lock down job too?

EDIT: Ow, ok, Stalking Flare does the job, I got it

Hey guys, looking to get a good monitor for fighting games, but I can't really find the Asus VH236H in stock anywhere (at least not new or for a decent price), so I'm currently looking at other monitors.

Has anyone had experience with the ASUS VS Series VS228H-P? I'm not too knowledgeable on monitors, and I only really know that the Asus VH236H is one of the best ones to use, but would this one be good at all?

Ten more years.

But probably not

Jebailey please... read the Marvel thread from time to time:
Oh you have to use meter? Well, forget that. Obviously you can do it with stalking flare, I thought we were talking assists raw to set it up.

That setup does seem interesting though. I'd want to see it in action.

Yeah, I thiink, with assists, only Skrull can do this job (Jam Session maybe?)

Search Zak Bennett on YouTube, his whole team is based around it. Problem is he came to the US and quickly discovered we know how to play Wolverine and Magneto.

Round Harvest does it too but it's not meter efficient. All those stocked spells build the meter required to do the final unblockable to finish off the team, the initial TAC gets the ball rolling.

The only other assist that does what Tenderizer does is Iron Man's Repulsar's Blast but the timing is super tight.

Also Zak Bennet's team does not do the death loop... his mix ups are actual mix ups you can get out of. Same for Baba Ganoush (uses Drones with FB) and most other FB players.

I'm on my second 360. Real talk you don't think that shit is going to happen till it happens. Just turned it on one day to have our weekly Halo session and it RRoD'd. My friends ran out of the house laughing. This is why I'm waiting it out before I buy a next gen console. Beta testing anything is overrated. At least it was a smooth process and I got my new console back pretty quick, but I think the one they have back had the shitty louder drive in it (forget which manufacturer).

The worst is MS customer service for their official racing wheel. They send out a PSA telling people they're doing recalls/retrofits because a number of users are reporting that it catches fire. I must've called like 6 times over a 9 month period asking for the coffin, still nothing. I'm not even quite sure why I did call that many times for what was likely an isolated incident they got threatened to sue for.

In my time of hardware ownership in the current generation, I've had my 360 for almost 7 years. It RROD'ed once, but was still under warranty and was replaced for free. But my hard drive is still the same 20 gig'er I got in 2006.

I've had my Wii since launch, so almost 7 years for that, and it's never failed although it did develop a high-pitched noise when reading discs (I fixed it once but it recurred).

I've had my fat 80 gig BC PS3 for almost 5 years. No problems.

I've owned multiple DS's, 3DS's and a Vita, no problems.

I guess I'm just lucky. Oh yeah and my DLP TV is still going strong, got that in 2006 as well. Haven't even needed to replace the bulb.

I'm pretty sure my 3DS has a faulty hinge. It squeaks and moves around in place from one end. But I don't know what to do about it. If I send my 3DS in, I lose all my StreetPass data and everything because I hear they wipe everything, which is by far the best part about owning a 3DS. :|

Thanks a fucking lot for not having a proper account system and being up to date with the times, Nintendo. I guess I'm just going to ride it until the wheels fall off.

What you attribute to unspoken agreements, I attribute to bad players.

On my third xbox. I used it for forza and fez this year.
One of my PS3s died (fat 60gig). Currently have two right now. One is our netflix/blu ray player in the living room, my other is in the office for games.
I have a launch Wii that won't die. I used it once for Skyward Sword. Somehow have another Wii but its still in the box.
Built a new PC last year. Love it. More of a work machine now.

I got my cousin's old Xbox the first and it came with like, Lego Star Wars and some stupid racing game. I probably shouldn't have even taken it.
