I'll start by saying excuse my ignorance on the subject but, what's happening with Frame Trapped now? The dev on twitter talks of how "if you want it, let Capcom know". Since when were PC mods / tools held to ransom like this?

@FrameTrapped

So I'm meeting with Matt Dahlgren to talk about Frame Trapped's future this Friday. Unfortunately, it doesn't look good.

https://twitter.com/FrameTrapped/status/555323401582419968

Hopefully I can sway some opinion but it's doubtful. We will try our best but may need legal help to see options if it goes bad.

interfering with the kind of thing that should exist for every fighting game ever smh

Unfortunately, it looks like this guy is about to get Gootecks'd.
Haunts pls save him. You're our only hope.

Here's what I understand of the situation:

History:

1. Frametrapped releases open beta
2. They want to speed up development (~9 months or so) so they switch over to closed beta and launch indiegogo
3. Capcom stops their indiegogo with a relatively mild C&D on the last day.
4. FT tom gets a hold of Matt Dahlgren and they start talks with FT as official dlc (similar to what happened with megaman x streetfighter), but the rep tells him ultimately the decision is in capcom JP's hands. They put off talks until new years. At the time tom didn't know why but later we learned about SF5 and all that so that makes sense.
5. Which leaves us where we are now. There's a very high chance capcom JP will give the no-go to this project which is why outlook doesn't look great.

More here. My personal take on what will happen is capcom JP will probably try to give it the axe (because unless it's tidily bundled like MMxSF was they think it'll be too much work, and right now it's not tidy at all) which puts the FT guys (Tom and Lullius, the slitherware guy) two basic options:

1. Release the code by itself (dangerous because this is how the toolassisted guy popped up after the guy who took apart SF4 showoff to make SF4 combotrainer released the source code iirc)
2. Hook the program into any fighting game so that capcom doesn't have a legal leg to stand on as it's generalized and separated from the streetfighter brand (similar to how cheat engine, gameshark, etc gets by)

Either way most likely it'll be released eventually.

My two cents.

The Saturn Darkstalkers were good ports right? I have them and ive been meaning to play for a long time, game looks like a lot of fun. Viktor 4 lyfe.

this is from the mizuumi wiki on vsav
"There are a few unacceptable releases in regards to competitive or serious play which include: Vampire Chronicle for Matching Service for the Sega Dreamcast, Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower for the PlayStation Portable, the PlayStation release titled Darkstalkers 3 or Vampire Savior: EX Edition, and the Sega Saturn release titled simply Vampire Savior. These versions are in no way arcade perfect, include many inconsistencies and some flat out awful changes to them. They should be avoided at all costs. To be fair, back in the day the Sega Saturn version was decent, but it is obsolete with the releases of Darkstalkers Resurrection, Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection and modern emulation."

its super rad that there are multiple ways to play the games in an arcade perfect way nowadays tho.

Thanks for the responses guys, and this is some really interesting thoughts. I wonder if they would still eventually have received a C+D if they hadn't started an indiegogo campaign? I can see how solution 1. would be dangerous, and I'm guessing 2. would take quite a bit of extra work to make it convincing at the very least. From Capcom JPs view it has to be easy / intuitive and good to go in order to be something that's officially licensed and easily integrated as DLC, something that Frame Trapped might not be for quite some time? And by then perhaps they'll be looking to focus more on the marketing of SF5?

You guys say that and I am thinking of the show with Jared and Haunts. And people who hate on other people for no apparent reason deserves the worst.

Fuck arcade perfect tho, Chronicle versions let you have Donovan in Savior. DONOVAN IN SAVIOR.

Maybe Capcom is stopping Frame Trapped because they want to release their own version which they have worked hard on.

...Nah.

How you mean?

whenever some benign video/program gets taken down relating to something gaming related (game review, game mod etc)

its usually the work of some 3rd party (usually of german or italian origin) copyright law company hired by companies.

often times they hit the hammer button too fast.

I suspect this is one of those things where I feel morbid curiosity and kinda want to watch but would have to drive a rusty nail through my skull afterwards.

There are a couple of spoooooooky pans and digital filters on minorities with fight sticks near the beginning (and I say that because they don't use any clear shots of people from the hands up until past the halfway point, no offense to your scene Enzo), and some green screen, but other than that it's pretty straightforward about the topic. More or less what you'd expect from ABC News.

fuck Carlton is huge

why is carlton so big

Ma boi been eatin his veggies.

He was always muscular. They just had him wear really big shirts so he can look small, but dude has always been jacked.

Ha yeah pretty much. That ep where he strips in front of his mom I was like "yo Carlton ain't as scrawny as I thought".
in a hetorosexual way :|

That's a lot of information given. All I can say is:
Who batch this is?

Awesome! I'll have to try this out.

Thanks, I forgot to add this little bit on Crack Kick
With the 1.04 changes Crack kick starts up faster and can you can do 2 Crack kicks on certain characters like in AE2012 for big stun. A good example would be neutral jump HP(do it late) on Balrog's dash punch, dash low, or turnaround punch. Its good for Balrog because Neutral jump HP towards MP combo wont connect all the time into Close MP. Plus you can follow this up with EX CU for more damage and stun, or Cr. HP with the knife for a juggle reset.

Here's what I understand of the situation:

That's a shame, was looking forward to see what become of this, hope the best for those guys.

IN MELEE THE IMPOSSIBLE IS POSSIBLE

Row Row Fight the Power. Did this happen because of the descending platform? Or am I missing something else?

...Nah.

Who knows? Ain't gonna be the first time a company takes somebody else's idea/hard work for their own game and this isn't inclusive to games.

Pretty much, all those big sweaters he's worn FPOBA made him look tiny, hence the jokes Will would make.

This. Exactly this. And in the end, this was the last straw for my friends who quit- they found other interests that didn't make them feel bad being part of it. They still enjoy playing with friends, but won't play with strangers anymore.

I have very limited time off, I had to work every single weekend but one this past year. I made events when I could.

That said, I should follow my own opinions on another matter- you can't really change a culture from outside of it.
I'm not even going to bother anymore.

That's more of a competitor culture, though, and it's a broader issue with how fighting games are designed and made, not just about the FGC. Fighting games in general do a poor job of providing a space for people who aren't hyper competitive, just by both the direct confrontational nature of the genre and by how much work and dedication just about every game asks of a player. The gist is that fighting games are terrible to play poorly, and feel absolutely awful to lose at, which isn't true of most hobbies or games nowadays. You see it too at fighting game "tournaments" at anime conventions, where there's actually an overlap between the fandom culture and the competitive culture (moreso than anime fighting game tournaments), and how weird it is.

Actually, I think the problem to fix this isn't to tell people to check their behavior, but to rather provide more to do at fighting game events other than playing in tournaments, which I think was Keits' main thing when he ran UFGT. If you're a tournament player, then yes, you should be able to hold that salt and endure popoffs and want to win to shut the haters up etc., but FGC events shouldn't just be tournaments for hyper competitive people. That's the main difference between the FGC and Esports, it's that Esports events are spectator events while FGC events are almost all strictly competitive, but that's changing with things like EVO and Capcom Cup, which are closer to spectator events and conventions than purely tournaments.

Carlton was muscular but he never looked like a meat head. He's clearly a lot bigger now than before

Because he's going to not have the time to sit down and learn it when his real job is probably going to be making him a lot more money.

There's no need to retire entirely to hold down the job and still play on occasion. He might not be able to play full time but he could still play as a hobby. He probably just doesn't want to feed the habit. =P
