Fighting Games Weekly | July 14-20 | Bracket Resets Full of Tears (of Joy?)

Yipes seemed a little down on himself but he was super happy for Justin. A combo of current events and Justin's win probably sparked some motivation in him.
I dont blame him. Yikes used to be a MvC2 god, and now he is just a "fan favorite". Clockwork has been moving up a lot in the ranks, and if he didn't drop so much random stuff he could have cracked top 8 easy. Yikes has been pretty stagnant, and he is even riding someone else's team.

I really wish I brought money with me when I went to watch the finals though. I would have come back RICH lol. I was laughing so hard at Champ losing his cool when Bonchan was starting to lose.

"Stagnant" Yipes still made about as far as Clockwork which was top 16.
Right, but Clockwork is improving. Yipes isn't. They're probably on the same level now, but a year ago I would have put Yipes above Clockwork. Next year, I feel confident that Clockwork can make top 8, but I can't say that about Yipes.

The man really needs to go back to Dante and pick up Strider. The Nemo team is really good, but it doesn't feel like it fits him when he's playing.

A good video on some of some of the system mechanics and basics of Under Night In-Birth, which is releasing in 10 days. I haven't watched the entire thing yet, but it seems really helpful for people who are interested in the game but aren't sure how the mechanics differentiate UNIEL from other fighting games. There's been plenty I learned even in the first 5-10 minutes since there aren't a lot of resources explaining the system mechanics of the game.

Just went through the whole video. Great for people that want to jump into UNIEL. Lots of really good information about the system mechanics and anime fighters in general. Even goes through how to end your opponent's turn so you can start your offense. Seeing it all broken down like this really helps get a better understanding on the decisions I see players make in this game.

Am I only the one who pities Triforce to the point where I sympathize with him? EMP being a drawn-out hopeless endeavor reminds me of shit I've gotten passionate about that was hopeless.

Justin has certainly demonstrated her strengths. I think he's shown that ice storm is the best (non-install) level 1 super in the game.
He still feels like Magneto is a superior character to her even with that super being as good as it is it's not really full screen so good players can avoid it and punish if he doesn't burn meter to dhc.

Yipes main problem is simply that he doesn't play in tournaments as much. There have been many times where he goes to a tournament and doesn't even enter. And the tournaments he does enter he either gets really close to making top 8 or actually does make top 8. He is still ranked top 10 player for UMVC3 and he still plays a couple of teams that can blow up the other top tier player's teams (team Nemo is absolutely capable of beating FChamp and ChrisG's team and of course any team in the game can beat Justin's team).

He still feels like Magneto is a superior character to her even with that super being as good as it is it's not really full screen so good players can avoid it and punish if he doesn't burn meter to dhc.
This of course goes without saying... Magneto is much better than Storm.

Yeah I'm the same. Dude reminds me so much of my dad. He's got some serious mental illness issues going on. Some Borderline Personality Disorder shit or something.

Dragging the thing out and probably doing irreversible damage to the careers and lives of a bunch of kids is hard to feel sorry for. If he really meant to do well for his players and help the community he would've had enough sense to realize that he and EMP weren't really helping, but Triforce has never been about anything other than Triforce.

The man should have dropped it 4 years ago. He's probably stuck in the sunk cost fallacy

I feel sorry for him in that I think he might have some personality issues and how he manages this whole EMP thing might not be completely his fault.

However his personal problems should not be affecting the future of talented players.

I figured this might be relevant for the thread; the Skullgirls devs have been looking into what it would take to get PS3 arcade sticks to work on PS4:

So we're still talking with Sony, but support for PS3 sticks isn't looking good.

They more or less said that we'd have to write a custom driver for PS3 fight sticks, and even if we did that they couldn't guarantee that Sony TRC would allow it.

I'm trying to get more information, but the impression I'm getting is that the statement their references is talking about really custom controllers direct from that developer/publisher, like guitars, etc.?
Read up a little.

But, despite that report, it sounds like this is impossible.

It basically means that we'd have to write a new, custom driver for PS3 sticks on PS4, and there's no guarantee that Sony would accept it even if we did somehow have the time or knowhow to do that.

Also, even if we thought we could do that, testing for every possible stick, etc. would be a nightmare and prohibitively expensive for us.

Basically, it's a pain in the ass and a pain in the wallet.

I don't really understand what's going on in his head, so it's hard for me to feel strongly about him in any one sense. I do want people to get out of EMP, though, for their own good.

Man, all this sponsorship drama.

Need to get on the SF grind again. No excuses now that a European claimed Evo. Does this finally lift us up from poverty status? :)

lol

But yeah rip EMP. I remember triforce was saying he was only keeping it going to find something for the guys who stuck with him for so long and if they left (sanford, deiminion, and m2k) he would probably stop.

OH SHIT EMP IS GOING TO DIE OFF TODAY!

I've never lived in NYC but wasn't Empire Arcadia just sort of a way for the local guys there to travel and do big tournaments and stuff?

Like - hey dudes, lets pool resources and hang out and do stuff as a group since we're all kinda broke individually and there's no 'sponsors' that exist

Yeah, I just finished it now as well. It's a really good tutorial for anime games in general. I didn't think I'd be watching a tutorial on footsies and abare but I did lol. Figuring out how to interrupt your opponent's offense and get your "turn" is something I'm sure people have trouble understanding in most games, so I'm really happy they explained it here. I probably would have taken a very long time to figure it out otherwise. :V

I'm a lot more hyped for the game now that I watched that video. It's really interesting.
