Fighting Games Weekly | July 15-21 | Post-EVO Pillow Talk

Probably a stupid question but why does Capcom have to reacquire the Marvel license to push out a balance patch? Did they have to jump through any hoops to patch the glitch that made it possible to get the bonus costumes?

I'm assuming the patch wouldn't add new characters and simply make slight changes to the game engine and move properties.

I didn't, but I reckon it'll be worse with Marvel, given how popular the game is and how much salt it causes.

The Marvel feedback will undoubtedly be much worse. More salt, more trolls, more idiots, and the game hasn't been around as long as SFIV (the different versions of which give us a lot more perspective than just vanilla vs ultimate).

For marvel update I want a ceiling bounce, an underground bounce, combo breakers, combo breaker breakers, combo breaker breaker breakers and interactables. Also put batman in it.

FChamp was going ham earlier with the "I fucking told you dawg!!!"

BTW according to him these were the preliminary changes:

Morrigan nerfed
Doom nerfed
Vergil nerfed
Zero nerfed
Dorm about the same
Sentinel buffed
Arthur buffed

This kind of contracts are full of little details for IP protection, so even a balance patch could be a problem.

They screwed up the contacts and didn't include balance patches in them.

You don't say, Champ.
Dorm's pretty much perfect right now.

Sentinel's main buff should be his HP. He has ridiculous damage.

He honestly doesn't need too many changes, probably a small damage reduction so his extended combos are used more but I can't really see much changing on him.

SF4 is more popular worldwide and there is no fighting game that does not cause salt.
People are currently asking for Gen nerfs, ffs.
Marvel is at least par with SF4 in the US in terms of popularity, possibly even more popular. And no game makes people whine and rage quite like Marvel, not even AE2011. That's actually part of its charm, and one reason why it's considered the most "hype" game.

Imagine you are marvel and Capcom nerfed all your characters to shit, especially the one about to appear in a movie. At the same time they buff the Capcom ones so they get all the play time. You'd probably want to have something to say about that.

AE2011 is an example of hate bandwagon growing too strong, when Super's balance was also ass.
Anyway, Capcom Unity's suggestion were 95% crap and full of irrelevant shit (like new taunts, fatalities etc).
It's the same community that thought Akuma was ruined in each edition.
Marvel will be the same, it is not as special as you make it in that regard

It's just... who cares? One of the best MvC3 players of all time is there to approve or oversee the changes.

It's not like they're going to randomly pick and choose.

I'm with you. I don't personally care about what goes in on 300 page monster threads full of shit. I'm sure the final changes will be decent with combofiend on deck.

It's pretty much impossible that a Marvel patch would go through without MorriDoom being nerfed. Incessant whining will ensure that will happen. Vergil and Zero dominating at EVO means they will most probably get hit hard too. Strider, Magneto and Viper will probably escape substantial nerfs mostly because Capcom loves playing the "skill/execution" card.

That's definitely my best hope for a good balance, for USFIV and for this possible Marvel patch. Combofiend knows his shit, and She-Hulk will be fucking back.

Gen isn't quite on the level of Ibuki/Akuma/Seth/whatever bullshit but make no mistake, Gen is a bullshit-ass character. It's just like Viper in vanilla, where Viper wasn't super-common so she was kind of a fan favorite in those days, but when people started to learn exactly how bullshit she was people started to be like "man fuck this character."

Gen's at exactly the level you want your BS characters to be at, imo.

But Gen takes a lot of effort and skill to become a "bullshit" character, you will never see an army of fraudulent Gens like Cammy. I don't think he needs any nerfs, just buff the other characters.

Basically capcoms goal should be for there to not be a single character below B+ tier

No that doesn't mean the people on that list are ass, that typically means the character strengths are that close together

Yeah so does Viper. "But it takes execution!" usually isn't much of an excuse for being bullshit. Akuma too.

I hope you're right but let's be real: Marvel by far has the most people complaining about this or that character/assist/super/whatever being too strong/weak. How coudln't it? It's a game full of unorthodox combinations and possibilities in which one-hit character kills happen with regularity. Opening the floodgates to suggestions from all these people just seems like a bad idea to me.

You're right about this. Combofiend definitely knows his stuff, and he's always been one of the best at figuring things out in new games. But I highly doubt he'll have the final say on what goes in the game.

Also, trusting top players to make balance changes isn't always a great idea.
