Damn, I tabbed away because it was a KillerKai match and missed some new Zero tech?

Wtf?

He did rehokka (mid screen) x-factor jump buster, lighting, and then jump lighting? Maybe tiger knee lighting? (didn't look like TK though.) and basically do a mini lighting loop that carry the opponent from mid screen to the corner to do an actual lighting loop.

Oh ok...fuckin Zero lol. "Midscreen and can't do lightning loops? NO FUCKING PROBLEM!"

Oh I understand it is the player's job to win and I've heard that those characters can help with that, I just hope these characters don't overstay their welcome after EVO.

Unless there is a nerf they are staying for GOOD. Just like when people realize MVC2 basically = Magneto, Sentinel, Storm and Cable paired with either Commando, Psylocke, Cyclops, Doom, or Tron.

10 more years...

With that said MVC3 still have a much larger character selection (viable characters that is).

It won't be 10 more years, because there will be new games. A big part of the reason CVS2/3S/MVC2 are so revered is Capcom didn't put stuff out- those games wouldn't play today, even if you upgraded the graphics to modern standards, at least without a balance patch.

Release games of that quality today and they'd die out within a year, or would be patched to be much better. Also, many folks today are much more willing to consider non-Capcom games then it was 10 years ago. I remember hitting Golfland, and they had a number of very good non-Capcom, and the only one getting played was KOF, and I was the only white dude trying to play that.

It won't be 10 more years, because there won't be a Dark Ages. A big part of the reason CVS2/3S/MVC2 are so revered is because folks were stuck hard on Capcom, and there wasn't any new stuff.

Wait wait a minute you think Marvel is going to die?

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH

I don't care what the fuck they release, Marvel is not going to die.

And yes I was there for the so called dark ages. And THERE WERE PLENTY OF NEW STUFF, it just none of the stuff stick. It was mostly so called "anime" games, that we really didn't play. We ignored it like we ignored Capcom Fighting Jam.

Capcom kind of implied that they were already slowing down on the fighters. You really think the new GG or P4 is going to take over Marvel?

Don't think it will die anytime soon, but there will be a game to replace it within 5 years. Yeah, there will be a small hype crowd for these games for years, but it won't last forever, times are different, and I like it.

Also, if Capcom starts losing money hard, they're going to go back to what actually made them money, and another Marvel will come out. Their word is meaningless.

A lot of those other games were good, but folks until about a couple years always ignored the non-Capcom games, except for a few diehards.

As for the new GG, I think it will bomb, seriously- folks won't bother with it, unless they're already fans. The new Persona- it's going to be the new KOF.

Eh, I think there are too many stigmas and preconceived notions working against P4U/P4A for it to be the next KOF. To be honest, it's kinda difficult to stick the "honest fighter" slogan to P4U because of how crazy it is. It's just going to have to rely on Persona fans and people just watching it and thinking that it looks really fun, while going against some of the "anime fighter"/"BB players don't go out to tournaments" stigma going around.

It's not like it can't get big. KOF didn't really pick up until people started getting HD combos down and spectators started getting awed by Neomaxes, despite people promoting it as honest since the beginning. I myself am definitely going to play it because it looks really fun. I just don't know how much it'll blow up.

MWC = Midwest Championships (Nashville, TN)

I mentioned this earlier, but you should get some of your guys to head up to Dothan on the 30th:

I only took 1 game off of Jay. His spacing with Phoenix is pretty sharp; outpoked me a lot. You don't pick up on the little things that top players are good at until you play them.

Cool, I'll tell them. Was almost going to post that picture and was like, I dunno if he's comfortable with that, lol. I grew up in the Carryville/Geneva/Holmes county area, Dothan is just a little north of that so I may make it and visit family too. Are you going to EVO?

KOF didn't succeed because it was honest, it succeeded because folks really wanted a game that wasn't SFxTK, and KOF was the best, freshest option at the time. Also, the community cared about expansion, unlike other anime fighters. Dreamcancel and Atlus really did a good job promoting the game, and even SNK did their part. KOFXIII is pretty much the blueprint for an alternative, low-budget fighter to get noticed in today's era.

I think Persona's going to blow up because of the franchise, and because it's a more accessible Arc game. Arc's always been held back by inaccessibility, or long, boring combos. Also, it's coming out at a great time post-Evo, when folks are going to be dumping other games looking for something new, and there's nothing on the horizon that will steal its thunder (GG isn't going to appeal to folks who are new to the series- they won't have that nostalgia) Atlus is also going to be promoting Persona, and MayonakaMidnight looks like it will try to follow Dreamcancel's example (I don't think they'll be as successful, but they won't have to be, there is that built-in fanbase)

I just wish Arc would make a Battle Fantasia sequel.

SCR was KOF's breakout moment. That Socal and Norcal rivalry just brought unseen hype levels for a non Capcom game. I think the community is doing a better job of recognizing quality more than ever before, but those few games before the climax at GFs were a big catalyst(or spark if you will) that set things in motion back at SCR.

Persona needs that genuine moment to complement it's quality(which we need to explore).

SFxT didn't hit the scene until four months had passed. KOF had already started to snowball before SFxT hit the scene and was being featured regularly on streams as an alternative game for those who didn't like SFIV's pacing and Mahvel's evolution(broken vanilla to uncertain ultimate).

I don't disagree here, especially on the part where quality is getting realized more. I think Capcom's failures in the past couple of years have really helped the community in the long-term in this regard. The folks who sought out the quality are going to be the long-term fans who keep the genre going when the mainstream stuff goes away. It's like pro wrestling- your Hogans, Cenas, and Goldbergs carry wrestling at its high points, but it's your Brets, HBKs, Punks, and Stings who carry it in the downtime with their quality.

As for KOF blowing up- it wasn't just SFxTK hate, SF4 was getting hated on as well- since it was divekick edition. The numbers for SF were dropping pretty heavily the 2nd half of 2011 here, and many of the angrier folk gave KOF a chance and liked it.

I think some of that hate for the Twins is what allowed SFxTK hate to snowball as well. I think people really underestimate how that December patch for AE saved that game competitively. Capcom didn't become hated just from one stupid decision, it took a string of bad choices. It's like a guy one pixel from victory sitting on a perfect losing, that's how bad Capcom blew it.

I'm unsure if Persona will get that quality moment, but lots of folks seem ready to hype the game up. Orochinagi seems to be getting hard into Persona, which will help in Europe. The real question is will the anime diehards agree to push Persona, the way KOF diehards agreed to push XIII. One factor with XIII was that most KOF heads didn't think XIII was the best KOF (many still prefer 98/02), but the community agreed for the sake of the series to stick with it. I'm not sure the anime community will do that with Persona.

2nd TOPANGA League starting in a minute. As always, if you're watching free, you'll only able to watch the first 45-ish minutes or so, but definitely worth it.

Wait wait wait.
UltraDavid just said that Chris G's dropping Morrigan?!

WHAT
This is bad news. Unless he's replacing her with Ryu. Then it's good news.

Diemon's Zero is so going to get bopped at EVO.

I bet he doesn't even know which combo to do on xxx characters because of size or weight (ex: she hulk).

Just too much knowledge that he can't gain in 3-4 weeks in time for EVO.
Dieminion using 3 new characters he's never played before. In two weeks? No fucking way is he grinding it out that hard, not even if he locks it in with Yipes the entire time (which he can't since Yipes is in the WC ATM).

I think it's just a counter pick team but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort unless it's been brewing for a while.

They were basing the fact that he changed teams in grand finals of big two against no Noel...LOL

Even then Chris G can play nearly every character in the game at a high level. Not to mention that team he was using are characters he used before, Zero, Vergil and Magneto.

I don't think he's gonna use the Zero team the whole way through evo but if he is using there wouldn't be a question about him learning the necessities of the characters.
