I'm watching it now. The game looks fun and broken. That damage. So they play OG fighting games in this tournament?

Team Spooky is actually notorious for playing this game, but I don't know if it's regularly streamed anymore. That shark guy is confirmed S Tier though, followed by Raph, and then I forget the rest of the list.
The games for Skillionaire are usually CVS2, Alpha 2 and VS. New York is known for their TF players though. I believe the gods at TF were Sanford, Jeron, Zar and Arturo.
AWWW YEAH!!Fuck Marvel, we got TMNT Tournament Fighters.
It's creepy that someone should have to put up such a disclaimer just for a list of opinions. I'm also sorry that I took so long to respond. I got some free time today so I decided to write some stuff up. I gotta respond to your posts in the Mahvel thread next.Making this post in response to SolarPowered in the Seth Killian thread:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=39041164&postcount=286
I'm not trying to offend anyone with my statements, this is purely a discussion of my personal taste. Everyone likes different stuff, and I'm cool with that. I'm not trying to slam anything anyone likes. This is just an overview of why I don't enjoy various non-Marvel fighting games out there.
I gotta agree with you here. Fireballs and projectile zoning seems kinda award to pull off in 3D fighters. Movement in most 3D fighters also looks kinda janky and models just looked really weird to me before. Dead or Alive hit a very nice point between realistic character models(besides the face) and movement that made the fighting look smooth. That was enough for me to like several of the games throughout the years even if they were not the most competitively viable games.Tekken: In general, I don't care for 3D fighters. I'm a zoner at heart, I love space control. There's almost no such thing as a "fireball" in these games, and it takes something away from it for me. I want to control space, not just play footsies. It's a wonderful coincidence that Seth Killian is a hot topic right now, because he made me first realize why I wasn't enjoying 3D fighters. His article here perfectly mirrors my thoughts on 3D fighters and why they aren't enjoyable (all of his posts are worth reading; if you ever doubt that he understands fighting games, just check them out):
http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/2d-vs-3d.91156/
I also think the characters are generally uninteresting in their playstyle. I like largely diverse and interesting game mechanics, and it seems like the vast majority of Tekken characters just have slightly different punches and kicks.
Soulcalibur was the biggest 3D game to me and maybe on par with DOA. The designs were wild enough to stimulate the imagination, but grounded enough to avoid the "kiddy" and "anime" traps. The overall tone of the series also gave it a sort of old world quality and the music really complimented the series. I had seen the first one on the dreamcast, but the big point for me was SCII. The inclusion of Link and the stories for each character just gave everyone tons of personality, but they nearly killed it all with SCIII's PS2 exclusivity. SCIV was kinda boring and SCV was dead the moment they killed off tons of characters and replaced them with two horrible main characters. The fighting is definitely at it's best with SCV and woman with the orb is cool(Viola), but it's obvious that Soulcalibur is Namco's Mahvel. The biggest problem is that nothing besides Mahvel or Street Fighter could survive half assed treatment from a publisher like that.Soul Calibur: I actually enjoy this game much more than Tekken. Astaroth and Nightmare are really fun to play. The last Soul Calibur I played was III, though. I haven't seen anything in the new games that makes them worth purchasing. I don't care about creating custom characters, and I certainly don't like them killing off classics, even if I don't use them. There's also something about the game that makes it feel more like a casual play than something I could really sink my teeth into. It's fun, but could I spend 500 hours on it like I have MvC3? I don't think so, not without a friend sitting next to me for us to laugh. I used to play the game every day with my younger sister's boyfriend, and it was hilarious fun playing on the ice stage and zipping around.
It saddens me that I never got to play against you in that series in the CS days. I sucked on the PS3, but I definitely knew my character and the game much better since I played more and Mahvel had not consumed my life yet. BB does seem to be experiencing a crisis from the entertainment standpoint. A lot of American players just aren't compelled to play the game despite the fact that it's pretty damn solid. People are talking about this very thing in the BB thread at the moment. I'm not so sure that I understand people want from the series. They say they want things to be new, but most people don't like the fact that ASW's balancing drastically changes characters. BB would probably be in a much better state if ASW managed it better. Fighting games should have no more than three major revisions unless there is something seriously wrong. BB is already on it's fourth version and three of them have been paid. I like to think that they'll wait a year and toss us a gigantic BB3 with four new characters, some new features and some interesting mechanics that can make things more exciting. The series is not completely dead, but ASW looks like it has handled Persona better in one game than they did BB in three paid games.BlazBlue: There's a huge barrier to entry in the game that makes it unsettling. I can't realistically try a character without putting a week of work into him/her. I play Tager just because his combos make sense to me, but I would rock Arakune if I could handle anyone. His bug combos just blow my mind wide open, though. There's also something about the game's speed that leaves something to be desired, and after a while matches feel like they lose wind. Do I win, do I lose? Somehow it just doesn't matter to me too much, even though it does in a more casual game like Soul Calibur. The characters are pretty spiffy, though, and I keep my eye on the series to hope that it goes somewhere.
Yeah... Mortal combat has that mean jank going on in my eyes. The sound effects are also kinda weak. It's like the complete opposite of Skullgirls in those two departments. SG has amazing fluidity and Vincent Diamante clearly has an ear for the sound in videogames. The fighting in MK is just kinda boring to watch too imo. I still respect Netherrealm's tenacity though.Mortal Kombat: See Street Fighter, below, but with really clunky gameplay. Street Fighter is slow and boring, but smooth.
What game is that?Street Fighter: Part of it is a lack of interesting character options. There aren't many interesting zoning options in the game. When I rented it ~3 years ago, I was really excited to play the game because the last fighting game I had played was Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (I was without a next gen system for a while). I expected it to be fast paced, sending sweat down my brow. I found the game to be slow and boring, though. I had just picked up the game (this is Vanilla), and without any knowledge at all went 5-0 online with Sagat spamming fireballs and throwing out high kicks as anti-airs. I didn't have any desire to buy the game after that experience. I understand Street Fighter is a deep game, but I want something fast paced. If I want a slow, thoughtful game I'll play chess. I also know me, and I get bored of characters very easily. If I did pick up Street Fighter (and most of these other games), I would master a character and then lose interest. I need something to constantly keep my mental gears going while I try and think up new stuff. Street Fighter doesn't offer that. As far as I know, only one game outside of Marvel offers that.
Don't get me wrong, I see the enjoyment in all of it. I see Daigo vs. FChamp, and I get hype. But do I really want to dedicate my time to learning a game that amounts largely to playing footsies back and forth and then throwing a fireball? Maybe an EX version?I don't want that. I want to call down fire from the sky, summon the elements, teleport behind my opponent, etc. I want a lot of gameplay mechanics operating all at once, I want to be pushed to the limit at every moment, and not just on the level of mindgames. I get that, I get that Street Fighter is just as intense as Marvel when you play it. It's just not the only kind of intensity I want in my fighting games.I'm being hyperbolic.
You should join us when the cast hits twenty. The money and numbers adding up gives Reverge more ammunition for updates, DLC characters and a sequel. It's a smart game made by extremely talented developers imo, but it takes anywhere from 2-4 months to make a single character. The thing that could hurt this game most are people sitting on the sideline for too long. I think the roster excuse is a valid one, but waiting until thirty for an indie game just seems like an easy way to make this into the new Vampire(ie:everyone loved it, but was too obsessed with something shiny to bother).Skullgirls: The closest to Marvel. I would honestly be interested in this game if it weren't for the horribly small character selection. I loathe mirror matches to the point where I don't pick my main sometimes just so I don't have to go through it. If the game gets to around 30 characters, I might pick it up at some point. It seems like a good game. It's roughly around Street Fighter levels of interesting when I watch it on streams.
I willStreet Fighter x Tekken: I can't say enough bad things about this game. I am sure no one will hate me for skipping a thorough explanation.
I don't find that sad at all. Darkstalkers set the bar pretty damn high. SNK has nice characters in their other series, but they only make KOF for some reason. The designs are a bit bland, but they're different enough from the constant Street Fighters to get me hyped. The fighting and music in XIII also do a wonderful job of setting the game apart. It's got it's own worldly feel like Tekken and the Soul series that makes it fun to play.King of Fighters: Similar to Street Fighter's problems, but added to that the character designs are absolutely terrible. They make Tekken characters look interesting. Most of the cast looks like it just got kicked out of a disco event. Street Fighter at least has really interesting aesthetics for all of its characters. I've never understood the appeal for the game. I tried the demo and was too bored to even go through all the characters. It's sad that a 2D fighter today still can't compete in character originality in both aesthetic and playstyle with Darkstalkers.
I want to see the series treated properly, but I don't see Capcom giving it a proper sequel.Darkstalkers: Love watching it. I look forward to Darkstalkers 4, I might pick it up if it turns out to be a worthy successor. My only play experience with the game is renting it to check out all the supers (you know, like renting Mortal Kombat to check out the fatalities - that was a thing I did as a kid). I didn't have anyone to play with because none of my friends liked playing fighting games with me outside of CvS2 and MvC2, the later of which they stopped because I started to win (and I sucked - we all sucked).
You mentioned aesthetics for Tekken and Darkstalkers, but not Guilty Gear or Skullgirls. Don't know what to make of that. Ask me for footage if you ever want to see good play for VSav, GG or Skullgirls. I'll be happy to toss something your way if you are looking for a reason to spectate or play another game.Let me know if I missed something, Solar. Hopefully no one gets defensive about their game. I'm just talking about how things don't mesh with my own taste and preference.
Don't know what to make of the Parasoul shirt, but I like Val's design. Was checking out the BrokenTier stream and I got some tidbits I wanna share with you guys:
- Koogy is working with CC on an UMVC3 special that will have all of the members from BT doing sets with each other while giving out commentary and tips on how they play.
- Koogy will have a very special announcement of some sort at EVO. Maybe another player will join the ranks?
- New line of shirts. Including 3 shirts from CC.
Also, previews!

Well, it's a FGC thread, and I know people get defensive about their game of choice. And understandably so. I just wanted to avoid a war. It's creepy that someone should have to put up such a disclaimer just for a list of opinions. I'm also sorry that I took so long to respond. I got some free time today so I decided to write some stuff up. I gotta respond to your posts in the Mahvel thread next.
Oh right, I also did enjoy Dead or Alive back in the day. They've very simple but fun games. I had a knack for countering, and would troll friends with it. There is something about the combat in 3D games that feels like the hits aren't really connecting. Almost like the whole thing is play acted.I gotta agree with you here. I share your sentiments, though I never really thought about whether it was kiddy/anime. I tend to respect a lot of art styles as long as it fits what the game has going for it.Soulcalibur was the biggest 3D game to me and maybe on par with DOA. I can't speak for others, but I think the Guilty Gear characters are way cooler looking than the BlazBlue ones, on average. I think it's also hard to enjoy a game with such a small cast when many of the characters are hard as hell to use. People are naturally going to gravitate toward a few that "click" with them through fundamentals, and you'll rarely see a Carl, etc. I really think I would enjoy the game more if I sat down and learned a character besides Tager, but none of them feel all that fun to use. I thought Lambda would be a shoe-in for me since she has crazy space control, but zoning with her feels more like an act of desperation than screen control. It must just be me, though. I know she sees play.It saddens me that I never got to play against you in that series in the CS days. I sucked on the PS3, but I definitely knew my character and the game much better since I played more and Mahvel had not consumed my life yet. Agreed. When I played the game, I felt like it was just a spiffed-up UMK3. Which was a fun game back in the day, but now?...Yeah... I still respect Netherrealm's tenacity though.
I was insinuating Skullgirls, since it's team-based.What game is that?
When I was a GG spammer against the AI, I used Dizzy and Testament. I really like both characters. I'm considering picking the next title up (not the PSN release), but we'll see. GG characters are really deep. I also like Eddie, but when I was younger I didn't have any ability to control a character like that. Maybe now it's different.I can understand what you are getting at here. The way you describe it makes me think you would like Guilty Gear. Some characters like Dizzy, Eddie and Testament thrive on using projectiles and fireballs to keep you distracted while they set their rushdown up. GG is probably one of the few single player games where you can do that though iirc. You sound like the kind of guy who find the most enjoyment in team fighters with assists. Vampire might also do it for you, but that game requires a real sense of dedication and the community is like 1/1000th the size of most normal communities. It's too old anyway. Modern day team games for someone like you are pretty narrow. It's Mahvel or Skullgirls and that's about it.
I understand where you're coming from, but I'm also not in a place in my life where I feel the need to support developers. I check the Skullgirls thread every few months to see what's up, though. I could possibly purchase it at the 20 count, we'll see who's in there that gets me excited. The game is really rushdown oriented right now - I never see Peacock picked. I'm extremely impressed by their new training mode in the next update - it has several things I feel UMvC3 needs. Most essentially, the ability to have characters only block a first attack. How am I supposed to test mix-ups on characters that don't block the first part of it?!You should join us when the cast hits twenty. The money and numbers adding up gives Reverge more ammunition for updates, DLC characters and a sequel. It's a smart game made by extremely talented developers imo, but it takes anywhere from 2-4 months to make a single character. Let's hope I can fight you in Skullgirls before that happens(and before the cast hits thirty).
It's like Street Fighter except somehow less interesting. I'm still trying to comprehend how a game that is actually faster than SFIV is less interesting to watch. DLC gems are displeasing, desynced online sound, huge cast of DLC characters withheld, the Megaman troll (this honestly annoys me), teams that are barely teams at all, and the gameplay itself just doesn't look fun at all. I hadn't a bit of interest since the day it was unveiled and I watched the stream. I still tune in to SFxT when it's on in hope that the evolving "high level play" will look better, but it's not clicking for me.I will
I really like the Street Fighter cast. Especially the racial/national diversity going on. There's something really neat about having so many societies represented in the game, even if they're parodies.I don't find that sad at all. It's got it's own worldly feel like Tekken and the Soul series that makes it fun to play.
I won't hold my breath, but after reading Ono's latest interview I have more respect for the man.I want to see the series treated properly, but I don't see Capcom giving it a proper sequel.
I love the Guilty Gear look. Better than the BlazBlue look, significantly. I watch high level play of all 3 games you listed, so no need to pass it along. I tend to keep streams on even when non-Marvel games are on so I can see what's out there. I was really, really turned off by the Skullgirls aesthetic when it was announced, but I have warmed up to it a bit. I think I just didn't like Peacock and Filia's character designs. You mentioned aesthetics for Tekken and Darkstalkers, but not Guilty Gear or Skullgirls. Don't know what to make of that. Ask me for footage if you ever want to see good play for VSav, GG or Skullgirls. I'll be happy to toss something your way if you are looking for a reason to spectate or play another game.
Mago is currently bodying Floe in AE. Floe hasn't gotten a round in like 5 games.
Is there any game Floe is a threat in?Poor Floe, wish he was more of threat in SF4....He looked good in AE with pre-nerfed Yang tho and I think he won a major too. (Not a huge major of course)

Final score in Mago vs. Floe......15 - 3
Is there any game Floe is a threat in?
Those nerfs broke my heart.
Yeah, wtf was that about. Yeah the character was too good, but they nerfed him into complete utter shit. He's not even competitively viable anymore IMO.
It's like Amontook his bending away.
Poor Floe, wish he was more of threat in SF4....He looked good in AE with pre-nerfed Yang tho and I think he won a major too. (Not a huge major of course)
He was so so at best with Yang....... 5th at CEO 2011, outside top 8 in NCR 9, outside top 32 in EVO2011, 5th at Devastation 2011, 13th at Season's Beatings Velocity, outside top 8 at Canada Cup......... I don't think you could say that he or pretty much any American Yang player "looked good" compared to someone like Nemo.
Yeah, I have a bad feeling for team EG in SBO, forced to have Floe and JWong not being able to use Rufus........ a shame that Ricky has to be in that team. Hopefully team CCC will qualify and do well in Japan.

Why are the in game voice/sound effects so funny in Justin's stream? Sounds like they have laryngitis.
