Fighting Games Weekly | June 18-24

Jpn marvel play is so clean and polished. I don't see many drops and if they do, they knw how to convert into resets. Looking forward to their Evo play

It's like Street Fighter except somehow less interesting. I'm still trying to comprehend how a game that is actually faster than SFIV is less interesting to watch. DLC gems are displeasing, desynced online sound, huge cast of DLC characters withheld, the Megaman troll (this honestly annoys me), teams that are barely teams at all, and the gameplay itself just doesn't look fun at all. I hadn't a bit of interest since the day it was unveiled and I watched the stream. I still tune in to SFxT when it's on in hope that the evolving "high level play" will look better, but it's not clicking for me.

I agree on the DLC thing, but the thing is not many know how to play the game properly yet. There's much to explore and experiement with certain characters, don't expect much solid gameplay til months later.

Speaking of which, how do you guys find the flow of matches in SF4 (or to be precise SSF4 AE) NOW, then from when the game was released?

"The game is fun, people just need to figure out why" doesn't exactly portend well for the future.

It's not about whether the gameplay is solid, it's about whether it's interesting. Clockwork said it best when he said that what determines a game's longevity isn't how competitively valid it is, but how fun the game is to play. I have no doubt that SFxT would evolve to high level, solid gameplay over a year's time. But is it actually fun enough to dedicate that much time to when there are so many other fighting game options out there? The general community seems to think not.

A lot of people complained when Marvel came out, but while they were complaining, they were training. It's another story when people just drop the game. If the game doesn't get a fire going in your belly, something that makes you say "I want to practice this every day and dominate", it won't fare well. SFxT doesn't seem to have that effect on the competitive community. CEO Grand Finals had two players that didn't even care enough about the game to finish their set - has that happened before with another fighting game at a major event?

I didn't watch SFIV when it came out, so I can't comment. I don't think this is about match flow, though.

There was no stream for the event, but SHK won the first SCV Tougeki Qualifier, held at Aruaru City in Fukuoka, in the Kyushu area. Here's his blue ticket:

Guilty Gear on st1ckbug.

Man after not playing / seeing GG for a while and seeing a lot of Blazblue, GG looks insanely fast. Like sped up almost.

IPW is streaming Marvel from Southtown tonight. Spooky is suppose to be there also.

Did Sp00ky come out west to prep for EVO or is he there just to hang out? Like a mini vacation before he hits the vortex for EVO.

Either way I'm kind of glad there isn't a lot of U.S streams this next couple of weeks. After the road to EVO I felt burned out (AND I WASN'T EVEN THERE) I think everyone (players and viewers) needs some rest time before the big fat grand daddy of them all.

He said in the interview at CEO it was for prep. Haunts posted on IPW that he is also going to So Cal with Spooky next weekend for SBO quals and CM.

Yeah we'll be streaming from Southtown all night soon. KBeast, Hoodaman, Harrison, Kineda, LPN and a bunch of other NorCal Killers will be there. Spooky in the house and Magus should be on commentary for Marvel later.

LTTP CEO.

Finally watched all of CEO finals for the games that matter, Marvel was far more hype than SFIV, good shit Justin, especially for SFIV even though UMC3 is your main game, lol @ Daigo getting blown up twice, smh @ Momochi continuing to pick Cody against Justin, pick Ken next time if you meet @ Evo, his Ken would be better than Michael-tans if he played him and Ken bodies Rufus. Pity that Mago got knocked out by Japanese players but it was bound to happen to one of them. That's what happened to Momochi @ Evo IIRC, lost to Mago and than Tokido.

Spooky is definitely a secret top commentator, I wish he could commentate more often. Although with him focusing less on streaming maybe that will happen more.

Reading on twitter that Haunts and Spooky was killing it last night on the mic. Haunts usually put these on youtube right?
