Fighting Games Weekly | May 26-June 1 | Thank you, Keits

Once again one of the best run, most enjoyable tournaments of the year. Where else can I get my competitive BaraBariBall fix?

Thanks Keits & crew for running such a fun event. Will miss UFGT.

This is perfect. I feel like we absolutely reap what we sow, in that we talk about reddit drama more so than the actual games themselves..meanwhile the other regions that people don't gossip about online are actually uh...training up? Basically, we reap what we sow.

Also, I feel like people train the wrong way in general too. Meanwhile Ryan is traveling to France for a fair amount of time to level up, etc. Guy puts in the work.

Glad he's here exposing people for the wakeup call before evo on his own dime (Self Sponsored)

The funniest part of UFGTX was when that dude took out the screw driver to fix his stick and took 10 mins. Then Mike Ross bodied him in less than a min afterwards.

Great, I'm coming to your house to train up for Ultra next week. Thanks for the invite! Should I bring Emlarr?

UFGTX was a blast. Major respect for Keits running the whole thing like clockwork. First time seeing it in person, and very glad I was able to make it out for the last one.

BTW, I was the guy who drew the autopilot May (AC) during the saltybet tournament. <3

Everyone was initially impressed by how lucky you were to get a character you knew to play so well.

i disagree. plenty of people are training in the states, but hard work does not always equal success.

Ryan Hart works hard and is talented, but that doesn't mean his work ethic is more robust or indicative of his tournament winnings.

I.E. e-durama 4 lyfe son!

Congratulations to Keits for running so many tournaments for the community. I really appreciate all the work it takes to set everything up and we got plenty of great moments out of it too.

I like how "Vanilla Top Tier OMGZ so Broken" Sagat won no majors, while 'watered down' Sagar ver2012 beasts on people.

Mad props to Ryan!! Players can skew tier lists for sure

So Hart is just that more talented than anyone you can find in the states?

After talking to the guy and and seeing his mindset, I think his preparation is better than most for sure. Yes, it's true that many people do train hard, but it doesn't mean theyre looking for the right things.

ARTURO SANCHEZ saying the USA is butts compared to EUROPE.

Imma post it to r/kappa and rake in the sweet sweet karma

For those who will be late joining us or haven't heard, the thread title is a tribute to the TO of Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament, who after ten years of hosting the celebrated Chicago event is quitting to focus on other projects. This past weekend's great UFGTX was the last ever.

oh shit really? Wish him the best of luck
Gonna have to catch up with the archives since I sadly missed pretty much most of UFGT

How should this be changed?

- Note taking on players (this is prevalent in the Injustice scene with Pig of the Hut's methodical note taking on players tendencies, how many times they go for x move in x situation etc). Of course Infiltration popularized this but people should have been doing this years ago

- Better understanding of frame data in general - once you're good enough to even know how to apply frame data in your game. Japanese players are very methodical and know exactly when set plays will happen - almost down to a science. USA players (again, not all) tend to play by feel and wing it, which does work to a extent..until you play against a player that is as good as you via natural skill AND knows the math. SSF4AE Bits iOS app on your phone is a step in the right direction. Capcom recognizes this too by releasing their own frame data app.

- Working together as a group/team (no, not collusion) to help scout each other's weaknesses. I know EG already does this, as well as Team Madcatz JPN guys, but I always feel like it's been a dog eat dog world (maybe because players here really need the money?) But I find when you are working together with other like minded players, especially masters of your character, the discovery and refinement process becomes that much easier

- Prudent analysis of matches, understanding your losses and why you lost
My old match analysis videos of AE2012 is basically stuff I used to do in private. Basically hitbox data/training mode/whiteboard to help you understand spacing and how moves interact. Also being able to understand the key points to turn around a match, also too important

- Being able to travel to other scenes/regions to experience different playstyles
Winning NLBC for 5 weeks in a row doesnt mean shit if you can't do it out of your own region. However, this requires proper planning, and life management so you can afford those trips. It's a metagame outside the actual game itself called the game of life lol. I know Ryan travels to the best regions and gets exposed for the sole purpose of getting better

There's a lot more, and I know there are some players that do this already, but not to the level where I'd like to see it at.
tldr: lots of people still playing by feel

They really gotta do like a 10vs10 (or maybe a smaller number incase not everyone makes it) Exhibition for Evo.

I really do think team Europe might be able to take team USA.

Ofc Team Japan will win anyway Kappa

EVO this year will be probably the most difficult to win in a long time. All the 5 Japanese gods, Ryan Hart and Louffy in their best shape, the usual American suspects, Infiltration, Xian. Can't wait!

btw is Bonchan going? I hope he goes

It's not even really playing by feel that is the issue but just shifting into analyze mode, changing play style on the fly, and staying calm, IMO. I think Ryan Hart and the best JP players have shown this ability to shift fast when necessary when they realize it's not working. It's an even more important factor than knowing all the data and I think a lot of top US players don't have the levels of fortitude they need just yet.

Tokido lost to Reynald in the MM at NWM and was kind of down about it on Friday but then spent the weekend playing KOF with various folks (Reynald and Romance included), in-between other games which lead him to beating Reynald twice in the main tournament, a dramatic shift from the MM.

Looking at Wolfkrone play last night, it felt like he was struggling to keep up after starting OK and doing well in parts. The biggest indicator to me was that he was still Seismo feinting after Ryan fired a tiger shot and got hit by it as a result. To me that's a pretty classic sign of being unable to keep the adaptation up and being shaken in a bit. There was a lot of stuff he usually does that he didn't do after a certain point or at all against Ryan.

Online Ken player trying to rush down my Sim 2 rounds straight with no regard for my anti airs and pokes, and finally loses to a U2 because he tries to air tatsu in on me from full screen:

Him: Pussy gamer

Me: Don't be so desperate to get that pussy though

Him: Fuck you

I love getting hatemail:D

In Ascending Order. Nerfing Juri appears to have been completely necessary, that's a bit crazy. Eyebrow raised at Honda.

If they were playing 2012, it'd be pretty competitive. The japanese players definitely have an edge given they've been playing Ultra for a couple of months now.

I wouldn't use those percentaged for anything really indicative of anything: the win rate highly depends on which arcade the players using those characters are playing, and against whom.

The Makoto number sticks out as "Everyone's re-learning how to play her now."

So excited. Does anyone know what WeirdoNeo is up to? Being a Korean pop star is cool, but I miss his Juri.
