Rumor has it that Triforce pissed away $10k that was supposed to go to the VxG Elite players. Now they can't go to EVO w/o outside assists.

This would be pretty shocking. Don't know if its believable doe.

KOF13's netcode being horrid is what kept me from playing it while I had PS+ to be perfectly honest. I don't know anyone who lives near me who plays it and who also has it on the same system, so online is my only option. It stinks too, because I absolutely LOVED 11 and I had roommates who played with me at the time.

I didn't really enjoy Marvel PS3 online until I got an EVO monitor, 5 bar connections actually felt like 5 bar connections. My HDTV has about ~30ms of lag on 720p sources, so it was a big step up for me.

Marvel 360 is really good too, it does feel just a tad faster. I can play that one on my HDTV upscaled to 1080p which is like 8ms of lag, I just won't pay for online so I roll with free trails from time to time.

This is how drama starts. Everyone knows EMP is shady but theres really no need to spread rumours. Just mind your own business and leave the issue to the players and their sponsors.

Having good netcode is nice, but it doesn't guarantee anything. What really needs to happen for more obscure games to grow in popularity is for people to stop saying, "I'd play this or that game, but nobody plays it," and actually get out and start playing them. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people who literally live minutes away from each other say this kind of thing, often to one another. This self-fulfilling prophecy is one of the most persistent problems in the FGC. The real kicker is that a large number of players isn't even necessary to have a strong scene.

Happens every damn day in my stream while I'm playing KOF.

"I'd play this, but no one plays it."
"I'd play this but the online sucks."

YO.

If you want a community to sprout, plant that shit yourself. Learn the game mechanics on your own, watch match videos, follow the tournament players. Show the game to others (in real life) and say "Hey. I know this game. I can show you some stuff, wanna learn?" That's exactly what I did in Arizona and now we've got a scene of around 10 players which is totally serviceable.

Most people are just looking to play a game for fun and hit some buttons. That's OK, but there's a distinct separation in the FGC between players who are actually care about their games and scenes versus those who just wanna play a game and don't really care which it is. I think this separation is one of the reasons the upper tournament echelons are getting stagnant.

The most annoying shit in the world. It's the reason this genre improves a glacial pace. Mechanics and features don't matter as much as who or how many are playing something.

Good on those who play what they actually like whether it is big or small.

Games with good netcode dont get played

Makes me sad. I'm in the process of learning TTT 2 more just because I hear how great the netcode is, but my god I'm ass at it. I'm still pissy about Injustice's shitty netcode.

Do many (if any) play VF5FS 360 side?

I don't play online very much, but I'm down to hop on if people are interested in getting into it or just don't have many local players available. I'm in NorCal so I get pretty good connections with most of the west coast as well as NV, AZ, etc.

It takes talent+ interesting play style to sprout a game. I have a hard time doing this because my playstyle tends to be rather boring in most games. I"m just not a RTSD type of guy.

There are still some people who play on 360, but overall its pretty barren. Best bet is to find people to play on VFDC.

I was more referring to here than in general. Playing randoms is weird, either I play someone who isn't very good and they get demolished and probably don't want to play again. Or I run into someone who is much better and won't rematch for whatever reason, probably thinking it's a waste of time.

I do love the game though.

So with all this drama... who would play Haunts on the upcoming FGC Movie by Sony Studios?
My take:
- Pre Capcom haunts: Edward Norton
-Post Capcom haunts: Ryan Gosling

Are you thinking about Arcana when you say this? Because it's silly to imply the reason people the don't play the game is because it has amazing netcode.

I would argue that one of the biggest reasons the Skullgirls community has persisted and did not just wither away slowly after release is in large part thanks to it's good netcode. We've got folks having playable matches with Japanese players. That shit is cray.

Art's probably talking about a lot of games now. SFxT has somewhat good netcode (more so for inputs than dropped frames though), Tekken and VF have great netcode but aren't played very much. Persona as well though I have my disagreements on it. =P

It's just an amazing conicidence, really. I mean, there are certainly other reasons at play but they all have good netcode is just one helluva thread, lol.

I think, at best, you can look at it the other way and say an otherwise great game's tournament numbers may benefit from poor netcode. Just too many what-ifs otherwise.

There's a lot of stories I've heard throughout the years from a friend who deals/dealt with EMP, something like that wouldn't surprise me.

But really, anyone who actually joins EMP at this point is really stupid and deserves triforces bullshit. Wonder how much of that 10k was going to be Dieminion and Yipes lol

So you think someone deserves to get treated like shit just because it's Triforce?

Here's my list of games that are bigger and the reasons why:
Kof13- ass netcode, character design choices that unfavorable to some
BB- again character design, mechanics off putting to some, yearly iterations
Skullgirls-character design, lacked features at launch, platform disparity
Ttt2-series fatigue, game not entertaining to watch for some
Scv-series fatigue, game not entertaining to watch for some

Ya, I didn't even bother learning KOF13 because of the online. If I can't play my shit versus others online, then I have no motivation to get better.
