But who cares about toxic shit poisoning the community (both the FGC and the Twitch community as a whole) when we get entertainment?

You do know that all the stuff on OBS was also elsewhere right? And something else will come along and replace the drama-mongering of OBS.

Don't tell anyone. But I have an Illuminati card.

Yo so you guys all have an infinity gem? The infinity gauntlets last year were real!

Markman = Ironman (makes superior tech for fgc)
Sabin = Beast (voice for mutantkind aka poverty and nrs)
Keits = Mr. Fantastic (gots tourneys down to a science)
Mr. Wizard = Dr. Strange (master of the mystic arts aka the eye burning clusterfuck of srk)
Jebailey = Namor (they both lift)
Ponder = Blackbolt (When he speaks you stop the raffles)
Inkblot = Black Panther (I think both brothers had in a hand in creating ggpo, they must of pulled some black panther-esque mojo to get netcode that good)

Edit: it's mere coincidence that the cannon brothers are blackbolt and black panther. Those are badass characters so no complaining!

At least some people admit it's toxic. You could be one of the deluded individuals who think that OBS was a constructive show that helps police our community.

It's just dumb obnoxious people having a platform to be dumb and obnoxious, and they don't stop being dumb if you take that platform away.

If someone's gonna scrape the bottom of the FGC barrel and collect it on a weekly show then I say let them.

This is my thinking as well. Going on OBS and saying whatever to its small audience is better than having Twitter wars and shaming the community on the largest social media sites.

Most people do stop being dumb at some stage though. I look at it as a potential positive as the people involved look at why the show was banned and hopefully take something away from that.

At least eventually.

But you can very well have the opposite angle as well: the more you give exposure to people being dumb, and the more people will get dumb.

Natsu is no replacement for Taki

What was special about Taki besides having huge tits? And I've seen Natsu get more use than Taki ever did in the past few games, so she's been replaced.

Zalsalamel was cut. Mina has popularity, Talim has some popularity.

Instead we got Moeblob Sophie-Wannabe, Stupid Wolf Guy, Magic Orb Girl who doesn't belong in the game, and Slash Dudebro/ Bust Setsuka. They also kept Lizard Man and Algol.

The lack of Mina and Yunsung was a huge reason why I can't get into SC5.

My friend who was one of less than a handful of people who used Seong Mina exclusively in SC4 was devastated when she wasn't in SCV. I wish the devs had all the time in the world to add everyone's favorite character, but that's out of my control. But as a fighting game, SCV is one of the best.

As for Magic Orb Girl/Stupid Wolf Guy, they were put in the game to attract new people to SCV because of their unique playstyles, so they certainly belong in the game.

The show was abrasive, but all you have to do is not watch it. But there's a reason why so many people were watching the show on Tuesday because they love the silly drama that goes on and want to see it perpetuated.

Twitter is the real cancer, not OBS.

It is absolutely insane that two conversations are happening simultaneously in the FGC: why aren't our events bigger & the cesspool that exploded after UFGT.

Christ. A little self-awareness would go a long way.

Well some people can't see farther than their own nose and some people see so far ahead with genius insight that it goes all over the globe and right through their ass.

It's either that or just spreading a thin layer of passive aggressiveness across social media, and the people in question usually do both. Nothing good's ever come out of OBS, but I think it's a stretch to say that it perpetuated stupidity across the FGC. If anything that flavor of dumb produces some sort of gravitational field of stupidity that attracts other dumb things, so it looks like it's generating stupidity when really it's just dredging it up from the bottom of the FGC soup.

So...

Why is OBS quitting a problem? Never watched an ep but sounded like the kind of toxic shit we need less of.

Keits said YOUR RIGHTS END WHERE MY FEELINGS BEGIN and ran to twitch cops and got james in trrrroooubbbllleee. it's a problem because I'm going to miss trifroce rants...

gonna miss OBS, maybe they can host it on ustream via the ps4 in the future.

I listened to the OBS show once when Triforce was on and felt dumber every second he was going of. I think he was going off about how TOs are liars and make profits off every tournament, they just don't want to tell you that. I'm really not sure how people enjoyed that shit. It's not even real honest talk, it's just bullshit. And after yesterday's blow up and TOs finally going on record saying they either lose cash or barely break even. It's really clear that some of this bullshit is sinking in.

Whether the channel is actually banned or not, I really don't have any sympathy for JamesMK if it did happen. From what I understand, his last show was going over the top using homophobic and transphobic slurs to describe Keits. If that's the case, then he dug his show's own grave. Blame FGC Illuminati? For breaking Twitch.tv rules?

This weekend is a Smash Bros. national featuring SSBM, SSB64, and Project M (a Smash mod of Brawl). It's ran by the same staff who held Apex 2013. It doesn't start until tomorrow afternoon but I'll be more than likely to post when the streams are live. This is also an EVO qualifier for Melee! So EVO points are on the line.

Zenith 2013

Streams:

Main stream - http://www.twitch.tv/clashtournaments
Secondary stream - http://www.twitch.tv/vgbootcamp

All of your favorites will be there: M2K, Mango, Scar, Unknown522, Hax, JMan, DaShizWhiz, Hungrybox, and much more!

Triforce spouting bull shit out of his mouth?

YA DON'T SAY???!!!

My point is that there are people that actually believe this idiot. The mind numbing feeling that some of us get listening to him, doesn't happen to others. And some of them happen to be top players.

If someone told you that there's a secret cabal of tournament organizers getting rich from the FGC, and someone else told you to get a job, who would you believe?

Filthie Rich leaving Namco. He pushed a lot for the FGC when it came to bringing cabs to events and pot bonuses. Good luck to him in his next job.

Malice it's easy to scapegoat OBS, but as you said they are not the issue.

Well I'm not sure. I came to my own conclusions by just attending tournaments. I also ran a small fighting game tournament in Santa Barbara and invested a lot of my own time and money to make sure we could stream and have addition cash in the prize pool. I even had an opportunity to get a closer view at how organizers do things. And I honestly couldn't see anyone making a living off of organizing fighting game tournaments.

Unless you're running ReveLAtions. And the only way to make bank is to run with sponsor and prize money.

What he and his kind put on Twitter is Twitter's business, just like how what he put on Twitch is Twitch's business. And Twitch clearly states in their TOS that you can't defame, harass, abuse, threaten or defraud users of the Twitch Service. So it's clearly in Twitch's right to ban him forever for breaking their TOS.

I don't understand why TOs making money from running events is a bad thing in the first place, why the heck should they devote hundreds of hours of their lives per year on providing a service for the FGC and get nothing in return? Why do they have the obligation to be slaves for the FGC? The idea that they are hoarding too much money from the players is pretty ridiculous when the players wouldn't even have events to make those money without the TOs.

The way I see it is just like being at a job. If you have a supervisor or manager who doesn't like you, because of laws and regulations, especially if your company is union based, they just can't get rid of you because they feel like it. What they would do is wait for you to give them an opportunity to get rid of you. And because of the nature of things, it can be anything worth nitpicking. It's same deal with any company and corporation. There are favoritism between higher ups and certain people can get away with things while other cannot. That's the situation I saw OBS being in. They weren't really well liked to begin with and they gave Twitch and whoever was involved the chance to end them.

And LOL at Crying Bryan. Guy must live a sheltered life.

Once I listened to OBS and my speakers melted, my computer BSOD'ed, me ears bled, my cat threw up, and worst of all my boner completely died. Then King of Sarus was in the chat trying desperately to get attention and I cheered up thinking about how sad that is.

I liked OBS. The format was less structured than something like the Fray, anyone and everyone could call in as guests, and people talked about whatever they wanted. Along the way there was a lot of humor and drama as well as some serious stuff about the FGC. Also a lot of stupid shit, some of which was (unintentionally) funny. Some of the regulars were pretty entertaining people like DevilMaySpy and Triforce.

And sometimes they do a pretty good job talking about serious issues. Just last week they had a bunch of female guests on to talk about the challenges women face dealing with sexism in the FGC.

I'm sad to see it go, but they should have known better than to post that video.

In my experience they never once did anything to help push any of these so called issues in a positive direction. I don't think anyone believes James MK was at the forefront of gender equality issues. Just listen to the way he speaks to his wife. Or about women in general.

I'm saying that if it's something you really want to believe, especially in light of the alternatives, you're going to find a way to believe it. I don't think all the people who believe it are so dim that they can't see the mountain of evidence in front of them, but that's not how conspiracy theories work.

Did whatshisface actually make money from ReveLAtions? I was under the impression that he was just a spectacularly bad businessman who didn't mind screwing other people to cover his mistakes, not some sort of criminal mastermind.

Edit: People accusing Keits of getting OBS shut down is also sort of hilarious. It literally is "Hey you're a faggot" *gets in trouble* "bet you taddled didn't you, you little bitch" like some middle school playground bully. At this rate of regression we'll be onto goo-goo ga-ga's by the end of next week.

So basically, this thread title is gonna roll over to next week? And the week after that?

Never listened to OBS. Only heard about what was said from people transcribing it in here. Betting it's not entirely a bad thing because Call_Kotaku is defending its existence. :)

Seriously though, is anyone still playing Darkstalkers? I heard there was a sale, and was thinking of picking it up.

Of course not. But that didn't stop people from talking about gender issues on his show. Same thing with the UFGT discussion. He said at the beginning of the show that if you have anything to say about the issue, positive or negative, you're welcome on the show.

Zhi (from Cross counter asia) is streaming an Injustice tournament.

EDIT:

If the receipts ring true, then holy crap. :/

I can only hope that LI Joe is resurrected. the FGC needs the drama.. because drama keeps the world spinning.

And if JamesMK is complaining that this is the first time he's gotten in trouble for posting a bigoted or slanderous video, "I got away with it last time" isn't an excuse.

E3 is a couple weeks, what fighting games are people expecting there?

I think we will see more of GG Xrd plus that other new ASW game.

On Capcom's front I always have MINIMUM expectations from that company. I don't even think we will see the new AE patch at E3, it's probably being saved for EVO.

I expect Tekken vs SF trailer to be there. It will probably be next gen because I see no point in releasing it this late.

Microsoft may have Killer Instinct 3 but if it's in anyway related to Kinect it will get shit support from the FGC. KI will just be banking on people's nostalgia and early console gen life cycle to get some easy sales.

Then there's Bloody Roar.. lololol

I doubt Guilty Gear Xrd will be there.
BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma is pretty much a lock, and Aksys' other game will probably be XBlaze (a visual novel in the BlazBlue universe).

I doubt Tekken X Street Fighter is even a thing at this point.

I don't think we're gonna get anything fighting game related from Capcom this year, and if we do, we'd probably see it at Evo, at least I would think.

From Capcom we'll probably see like, Deep Down (aka Dragon's Dogma 2) and, well, who knows what else, lol.

Really hope that BBCP and GGXrd are both there, the former should be playable. GGXrd playable on PS4 (even if it's just Sol/Ky) would be nice but definitely unlikely.

I don't think we're going to hear a peep that's fighting game related from Capcom. As for Namco, what's next in the cycle? SCVI?

It's tangentially related to fighting because the PvP battles were so amazing and share a lot in common with fighting games, but I am super excited to hear more about Dark Souls II.

Speaking of TxSF - if Namco is still even working on it - how soon do you think it would pop up. Next Gen pretty much begins (in full) this holiday season. Could they drop it in the first half of 2014? If they held off until 2015 would anyone give a shit?

And since Namco & Nintendo are on good(ish) terms, is there a possibility Namco would want to put it on WiiU as well?
