Fighting Games Weekly | Nov 17-23 | Settle it in Smash

back from IESF 2014.

Infiltration is a monster with Rolento.. couldn't get a round off him, even in casuals. i almost perfected him once then he made a massive comeback :<
i also asked him if he'll use Rolento at Capcom Cup. he paused and said "hmmmm.. i don't know, i guess it's a secret" which leads me to think yes he will :D

This shouldn't come as a surprise. You're talking about a sloppy shoestring budget cash grab here.

A sloppy shoestring budget cash grab that for some reason is the big game of the genre ;_;

Yeah, it's pretty crazy when you really think about it.

If anyone is new to GG and wants to learn stuff when XRD comes out I'll gladly teach the ins and outs.

Just name your character and if I'm not super proficient with them give me like a day to work out their little tricks and I'll have a nice step by step learning program for ya :P
Assuming we have a solid connection (always a "?" with you), I want you to grind me to perfection.

Teach me about Bedman! And GG in general. I like GG a lot but never played it seriously.
Bedman is the first new character I plan on putting time into, a fair warning though his 8 way air dash stuff needs to be inputted fast and precisely
I am 99% sure I will probably stick with Ky, but shit, I'll take you up on that.
Ky is a good learning character he uses the RC system a lot in easy to apply ways. The main thing with learning him is how to apply his vast range of tools vs the cast.
Assuming we have a solid connection (always a "?" with you), I want you to grind me to perfection.
It should fine, no clue why it spikes up at times with us. But most people I play on arc's netcode is pretty stable.
I really hate the fact they had it there in the first place :l

He'll use whomever puts the matchup with his favor.

This video is awesome.

This is what happens every time I try to explain/introduce my sister into fighting games.
Not really.

I think I just really take for granted how a lot of shared knowledge and mechanics are just second nature at this point for me to utilize. Even something like understanding the difference between a high, mid and low is a challenge to teach while from my perspective it's incredibly easy. I also keep on forgetting to take into account how things would sound to a newcomer, I end up falling back on game jargon even when I'm in the middle of explaining how a mechanic works.

Has anyone had trouble teaching someone new to the genre? It feels like my explanations aren't enough at this point.

What the hell is that clip...

I played COD in the kitchen while the voice was on in the living room. Not my proudest gaming moment but at least I could play. Still want to hide my ps3 in the cupboard but worried about ventilation.
Damn, I thought my audio situation was bad.

Currently have my PS4 outputting all audio to headphones because I don't have an HDMI audio splitter to use for my monitor. So I have an audio cable from the bottom of my controller connected to my sound system at the top of my desk. Looks like a complete mess, TBH.

livestreamer streamaddress quality

So you just type eg:
Code:
livestreamer twitch.tv/miekrusspls best
livestreamer twitch.tv/miekrusspls low

Code:
livestreamer twitch.tv/miekrusspls

lists all the available quality options. There's no on the fly adjuster, you have to close VLC and restart the stream.
Do I just open up command prompt and type this in? I use a script where I usually jst type the name of the channel (not the full URL) and hit enter, and adding "low," "medium," etc. at the end doesn't work

Now I wanna know what that is in context, to see if that freak out was worthy in context or just overacting... or animating rather.

I need character history and what is the main thing you enjoy in a fight, hate fighting, and hate playing

I don't really have a history is the problem. The main game I play rewards strong offensive/defensive zoning and space control. apply pressure and try to take control of the game space while looking for openings against other zoning characters. Surrender territory to strong rushdown characters while poking them to death.

The thing I like the most is getting into a rhythm or a pattern, sometimes throwing stuff out there and hope it works. Again sure auto-piloting is bad but I still find it more rewarding to make guesses and have them pay off than thinking about what to do next. I enjoy a nice flashy combo every once in a while too but only because I land them so rarely.

I hate trying to get in against people, I prefer to play passively. Getting in against zoning characters is the worst, getting in against grapplers is terrifying but usually less frustrating. Actually I just hate playing rushdown in general, it always makes it feel like I have to try and take initiative even though I don't want to. It feels like I should be playing really random and dumb because I have no idea how to rushdown intelligently, so I just feel like an idiot all the time anyway. Honestly I can only pressure and bully weaker players, if they can put any kind of a fight I'll just turtle up.

A version of this without the giant robots https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZBnxsZKmJM

On Windows, supposing you used the installer, yes.

For me deciding what to play in GG is hell. The characters are heavy stuff to learn, way more so than KOF13 ones, and there's nothing that really really stands out. Faust is fine, but so is Zato, and Ramlethal seems nice too. Ogawa stuff makes me want to play Zato but the workload is insane. Xrd at least gives us a solid combo into drill via 5HS(3) xx 22H.

Decisions, decisions ;_;

Xrd obv.

If I end up tackling the Zato challenge I think I could use an exercise set for shadow control/coordination. The negative edging stuff drives me insane.
I think you'll be fine. Reload and Xrd's learning curve seems to be quite easy to be honest (compared to AC). Most characters you'll be able to get a hold of quite quickly aside from a couple. As for Zato, I can help you out with that one if you ever do decide to play him. Negative edging stuff will feel natural soon enough, and I find his Reload/Xrd version to be simpler than his AC version. Each shadow attack has a time and a place. In oki and combos, there's only just a few spots where you need to consciously hold a button to prevent a move.

And yeah, 5HS having the 3rd hit become cancelable looks so good. Makes him a lot easier with that.
I really hate the fact they had it there in the first place :l

Melty could be almost as bad as Marvel if it didn't really have that.

it'd be nice if the wii u gc adapters and controllers were being sold now

guess i'll be lagging it up when the game first drops ._.

Now I wanna know what that is in context, to see if that freak out was worthy in context or just overacting... or animating rather.

don't waste your time with the anime, but the reaction was worthy

I can see why you have problems explaining things to people if the explanation of random anime clips is more random anime clips.

A challenge you say?

It's from an anime named "Chuunibyo demo koi ga shitai" I think. In japan there is a concept called chuunibyo which gets loosely translated "8th grader sickness/syndrome" "middle schooler syndrome" or something like that. It basically refers to when teenagers start to act out.

In pop culture is caricatured by someone wearing dark clothes, playing make belief and indulging in fantasies that they are somehow special, generally acting as what you could describe "edgy". That rant kind of runs down the commonly used tropes, like suppressing their power levels to fit in with normal people, looking up random trivia or occult facts to pretend they know more than the average person or are somehow smarter.

I should probably watch the show to get a proper context for that scene. Because honestly the whole thing is just teenagers being teenagers. On the other hand Japanese society is pretty fucked up and scoffing at societal issues isn't something they can really afford to do.

Wait, what does this have to do with fighting games again?

KI's early access thing is essentially a final beta test- people might be thinking there are more live updates than they really are because of it.

By looking at the thread.. people really loved their bowsercides even though it was stupid.

Glad it's gone even If I haven't really played Sm4sh
Bowsercide was only doable if you were up significantly in % and were near a ledge. It was basically an additional earned kill option unless your opponent forgot that he/she can influence the direction. I rarely got kills off of Bowsercide. Maybe 1 in 50 matches. It kills a lot of scrubs, though.

The problem with the new change is this: side B is a solid kill option for Bowser at ~120% based on its knockback, not the suicide option. However, with the patch change, my opponent still has a lot of control over the movement during side B, and he can force us to suicide together, resulting in my loss. Basically, Bowser didn't just lose Bowsercide, which is fine with me, but he can potentially lose a match now just for punishing with one of his most reliable punish options. That's not a good change.

Never had to legit teach anyone but it hasn't been to hard to explain things
because I'm still a complete noob in my mind lol

I'm probably going to wait till Xrd comes out since it's a new game versus one that I've spent a ton of time with already, plus shiny graphics, new game smell, etc would look more attractive to a newcomer I think.

Not only do you use Blanka in Street fighter, you fully endore bowsercides.

what does this say about you, breh?

You don't get enough of this at home?

those terrible hindi dramas

Q, what pad layout do you use for GG?

I know it's apples & oranges but is there anyone in the game who plays remotely close to Akihiko (my only real ArcSys character experience)?

There's no one really like Akihiko in this game. At best, I suppose there's Slayer. Dandy Step might have some similarities, but the moves don't really function the same way. And I guess you'll have a character that has difficulties getting in again lol.

But since Slayer has an unconventional dash and is more footsie/link based, he might be a hit or miss for you.

If you're looking for a character that gets to press buttons and stays in easily once you're in, there are other options.

Interesting. How often do they do proper balance changes?

The last big balance change was about a couple of weeks before season 2 launched.

Otherwise characters come out a week early for Ultra players.

I remember CDJr getting upset (Not a shocker at all) because of people wishing that they did the same thing for balancing that Netherrealm said.)

I think yearly balance changes is good. Gives the changes time to be played in Majors, gives devs time to see what SHOULD be fixed and what shouldn't, keeps the game fresh in a reasonable range of time, etc.

Bowser isn't the only character with a "-cide", though. Dedede, Kirby, and Ganondorf all have them as well.

Honestly, I really don't care about the Bowsercide loss. I'm not a fan of what it was changed to, though. It's not a good "fix".

Also, I always play beasts/demons/creatures in fighting games. My UMvC3 team doesn't even have a human on it. Blanka is the only aesthetically appealing character in SFIV's entire cast aside from Oni.

Maybe go with that. I read the word "link based" and since it's unlikely you're talking about Hyrule, I start to go into convulsions.
