Silksong is legitimately one of the best games I've ever played and the amount of content in it especially for $20 in this day and age is frankly unheard of.

At the moment for me it's between Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and South Of Midnight, though the likes of Silent Hill F and Battlefield 6 could change that

Its the basically the same game by the same dev team as Tactics Ogre - only FFT came out afterwards and is more complicated.
Sorry dude!

FFT truly is one of the best games of all time though. Ive replayed it tons of times over the years and it never gets old.
I didn't like Tactics Ogre, I loved Unicorns Overlord. FFT looks kinda cute but also ugly to me. I'll wait and see what the reviews say but it seems pricey for a game that doesn't have any new assets/remake elements.

Donkey Kong Bananza is my frontrunner so far.

It's one of those games where the core gameplay is just so satisfying and tactile that just interacting with its world is a joy.

It's difficult to decide between these 2

Ok let's say Clair Obscur Exp 33 😉

(I have to say that i really enjoyed The Alters that could be my Goty another year. But sorry 11 bit studio, not this year).

As a game - Silksong.

As an experience - DS2 and nothing is even close. Kojima fucking outkojimaed himself.

EDIT: Although I suspect Hades 2 will beat Silksong, I played the EA when it first released and it was rad, decided to skip later updates to get full experience on release.

Expedition 33 no doubt. Hollow Knight is pretty good too, its like two 10/10 games facing each other, but expedition was something else. It did everything right and it's so unique. We already spoiled by the first Hollow Knight so the sequel didn't have the surprise factor this time.

I bought but didn't play Kingdom Come 2 but I know what to expect from it, it's probably a 9/10 game like the first one.

So far:

Game of the year: Donkey Kong Bananza
Surprise of the year: Fumes
Disappointment of the year: Doom The Dark Ages

Might change when FF Tactics Ivalice Chronicles releases, though.
Doom TDA has really been disappointing indeed. Worst entry of the trilogy so far, and I say that having loved the two others.

You people are playing 2025 games?
Lol my only 2025 games are:,
Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Cronos the new Dawn
Labyrinth of the Demon King

Everything else was bought on sale from the years before. My rule is if im not getting it day1 im buying it on sale at minimum 50% off.

Im getting Silent Hill f next.. and then Bloodlines 2 even if it aint great.

Its still Expedition 33. I was still at around the middle of the game and i was already sure the game was gonna be the GOTY, reaching the end only made me lock on in being 100% certain. But the game i most enjoyed was Kingdom Come 2, I could only see this game get a GOTY in a weak year with not many contenders.

It really is and I think it's the best game of the year easily, and I've beaten Expedition 33 and think it's also a wonderful game. I hate it that so many people simply think budget is the biggest step to TGA and it shouldn't be that way. Why should flash and flair be the deciding factor?

I really hope we're all proven wrong and Silk Song wins "the big one" and puts all that stupidity to rest.

Hard to really have a stance on it until I play Clair Obscur, but Silksong is far and away the winner for me at this point. And I wasn't even looking forward to it. They took Hollow Knight, which I thought was a solid but overrated game, and evolved it into something that can stand comfortably alongside SOTN and Super Metroid. It's an absolute masterpiece.

It's insane that I voted for Clair Obscur, since I absolutely hate JRPGs. But that game is just that good.

Wow, CO:E33 winning by that much is surprising to me.

It's like... a good game. but it's not that much better than everything else. The only standout to me is DS2 but even that it's a sequel so like it's not setting the list on fire for me (even though it is brilliant).

I at least though DK:B would put up a bit of a fight

It's Death Stranding 2 for me personally, but Expedition 33 should and probably will win GOTY at TGAs.
I was 100% sure Expedition 33 would win before Silksong released, but now it's not entirely set in stone.
I've platinumed DS2 and Expedition 33 and bought Silksong but haven't dared booting it up before finishing parts of my damn backlog.

I have been playing Death Stranding 2 since it released, almost exclusively. It's funny too, because for the first 50 hours or so, I was like "damn, Kojima really just went and made the same game again...again!" I was wrong and every additional hour I put into reminds me how wrong I was. Once I get 400 LLL standard missions, I don't know what I'm going to do with myself.

So I voted for DS2.

But I wouldn't be mad to see Clair Obscur take it home.

Donkey Kong Bananza went so far above and beyond my expectations it's my pick. Though seeing the response to Expedition 33 I really want to try it out.

Seems pretty clear that it will be Clair Obscure. This will be a historic moment because it will be the first GOTY that used generative AI for development. That is if you believe that the team's AI use goes deeper than the textures that were discovered by players then removed by the developers because they forgot to remove their "placeholders".

See no reason not to believe it. The placeholders were removed very quickly after they were pointed out.

such bulshit. people getting upset on Ex33 or The Alters that they used AI for some textures should get a grip.

And it's largely made by only 3 people. It's crazy.

I spent nearly 100 hours this summer going past 100% on Hollow Knight and I expect to do something similar with Silksong. I know of things I won't be doing in the first playthrough (the witch curse quest) so I'll go back to it again with a focus for higher completion percentage.

For me, out of the games played, there is no game more worthy of a GOTY award.

I still hate parts of it. The difficulty spike coming from HK is absurd. But it's still amazing.

Given the current state of the industry, if I were the Doritos man, I would call up to the stage Expedition 33, Silksong, and Deliverance 2. What these teams created isn't just a collection of great games; it's a statement against a toxic industry. And that deserves to be recognized as Game of the Year.

But the Doritos man is a coward, and I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up giving the title to DS2.

DKB simply because it makes me smile and not many other games have done that.
But E33 I just don't get, if you don't like turn based battles then this won't convince you, I'm actually finding it incredibly over rated.
