I didn't think E33 was bad by any means, but for me probably like an 8/10. I do not understand how people think it's the best JRPG ever made...like dude it's note even the best JRPG from the last couple of years.

E33 has no rizz. I cannot define it beyond that.

Assassin's Creed Shadows, which should have been an option in the poll.

the right answer...AC Shadows is amazing

Haven't touched Silksong yet but I really loved Split Fiction. Some of the tightest and most interesting level design of the year, and I thought the villain was 10/10 hilarious.

OP didn't even put Borderlands 4 in the choices lol
I know there's an "others" option but seems like a glaring omission

It's gotta be Clair but Keep Driving is a strong runner-up for me. It's a game that puts me in mind of playing Oregon Trail in the computer lab as a kid. Something about the aesthetic and sound design is very soothing, I keep coming back to it. Nice game

I mean it'd be the lowest reviewed game on the list if it were added, and there's games not on the list with better reviews. So not that glaring.

Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles
Nothing is touching that one.
I keep hearing that this is a great game and I love the look of it. That being said, I didn't get on well with Tactics Ogre: Reborn. To me it seemed overcomplicated and I couldn't keep up with it. Is this the same kind of thing or is a bit more simplified? Genuinely curious.

I freaking love Clair. And, it probably should be GOTY. But, I voted for KCD2, cause my love for that game cannot be expressed. First game in a long time (since RDR2 probably) where I can get that immersed and just play for hours screwing around.

KCD2 is just an unbelievable experience that is everything Ive always wanted a Bethesda game to pull off. I haven't played E33, and I'm sure it's great, but I'm just having a hard time believing it can somehow be a bigger accomplishment.

I've been thinking a lot about what six games are getting nominated for GOTY at The Game Awards this year. Hear me out.

I think there are four games currently "locked in". Those games are:
- Split Fiction (TGAs love Josef Fares, has won before)
- Expedition 33 (Indie darling, massively high MC)
- Donkey Kong Bonanza (There's always a Nintendo game, high MC)
- Death Stranding 2 (There's always a Sony game, Dorito Pope loveS Kojima farts, high-ish MC)

That leaves 2 spots open for the other games, those games are:
- Silksong (This one will probably make it)
- Monster Hunter Wilds (Asia loves this game more than the west, but lower MC than the other games)
- Silent Hill f (This one is a wildcard. We don't know MC yet, but leaked reviews are higher than expected. It probably won't happen but it would be cool if it did.)
- Blue Prince (High MC, indie game, not a lot of hype around the dev though)
- Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 (I don't see it but it has a lot of votes on here so)

Oh I will say two of my other favorites are not even in the poll:

Pipistrello and the Cursed Yo-Yo
Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

I'm not gonna count out this Trails in the Sky remake as a contender either, any 90+ Metacritic JRPG usually lands really well with me.

I can't imagine anything beating Expedition 33 for me. That's my favorite game of the generation. Favorite game in YEARS.

KCD2 in many ways is deserving as well, but for me, personally, I found the minute to minute gameplay just too tedious. The game almost actively stopped me from having fun because it threw some bullshit at me when I just wanted to cruise the story. That said, its vast and well written.

Still Expedition 33 for me. It's right up there with Elden Ring as my favorite game this gen, and now several months after having finished it and let it "simmer" in my mind I think I can confidently say it's my favorite JRPG.

Silksong is great too, but ultimately feels lot like "more Hollow Knight" which is great but not as exciting as something new and fresh like E33. Also, while I don't have a lot of complaints with Silksong, some of the issues it carries over from HK (like the annoying boss runbacks) become harder to overlook the second time around.

Easily KCD2, that game is a masterpiece on all accounts. I'd be hard pressed to think of a better sequel to an already amazing game. Blue Prince was also incredible and huge surprise. My bet is that E33 is probably going to overshadow everything though.

DS2.
But for me personally - Mafia Old Country was up there - Shadows was also fantastic.
I go off what i like- not what others tell me to like. :p

Probably Expedition 33, but I haven't played Silksong yet

Been playing Hollow Knight for the first time and its' one hell of a game. Masterpiece so far.

I'm glad I haven't played it before, because I would have been crazy waiting for Silksong.

After voting for Bananza, I realized that Nightreign is actually my true goty. It's a game I played for 200 hours, which I don't do normally. Far from perfect, but a gameplay loop that was incredibly fun and addicting.

I hope FromSoft creates a Nightreign-like game from the ground up. Maybe in the visual style of Ninja Blade. Or that Mecha President game.

Its the basically the same game by the same dev team as Tactics Ogre - only FFT came out afterwards and is more complicated.
Sorry dude!

FFT truly is one of the best games of all time though. Ive replayed it tons of times over the years and it never gets old.

So far, my favorite games this year that I've played, which are also new to this year, are Avowed, Expedition 33, and Donkey Kong Bananza. I still need to play KCD II!

KCD 2 is probably the best open world game since... i cant remember... a long time ago and it definitely deserves the GOTY for the NPCs alone, but... Silksong, is the perfect metroidvania, my favorite genre by far, the one that makes you think, and i just love it too much... also, is about time that a 2D game wins GOTY, and well deserved

You missed Hades 2. I think the final two spots will go to Silksong and Hades 2.

Expedition 33 and it's not even close. They have to win for the industry to start to heal, from the enormity of big budget garbage and quick cash-ins.

Not only that but 33 people making a game of this scale, quality, story, and the best OST ever.
