But they're both anime.

This is what I truly believe. Sakurai doesnt want the game to be competitive. He wants it to be strictly a party game and he's reiterated it many times.
Balance patch updates are anti-competitive?

It's more like he wants to find a middle ground, much like how the devs of Mario Kart eliminated snaking cause most folks can't pull it off.

Really depends on the changes.

Some changes are designed to make the game easier for players, reduce complexity/learning curve and even lower skill gap. Some changes are designed to only be balanced at an "average" level of play, not at the top level.

Not that I think this Smash patch is that but patches don't necessarily mean "more competitive balance".

Great vid, I love your choice of music. A lot of the Doom stuff is already discovered but its great that you are compiling them so people can easily view it. I really wish Capcom was able
or maybe competent, I don't know,
to keep supporting UMVC3.

Good stuff Zissou. I'll have to try some of this out next time I'm messing around with Doom.

Very cool. I play Doom/Strider shell and ussually jM mostly as my party starter. I haven't played in forever. Smash hype is real in the office while the rest are in the WoW vortex. Level 100?! Yeesh.

Thanks for the kind words! I wish I knew enough to do videos for other characters (motivation to step up my Dante and Strider game at least, haha). The problem I have with learning fighting games is not that information isn't out there at all, but that it's often all over the place and you've gotta search and search to actually get the whole picture sometimes.
It's a rare treat when there's a dedicated community that makes a truly comprehensive character guide- the umvc3 Storm thread on SRK is really great, but sadly, that kind of thing is pretty rare
. More consolidated clear information = more people playing more games, IMO. Part of the reason I don't play more than a fighter or two at a time is because of the large time investment it takes to learn the stuff you need to know to play it competently.

Kof grapples cheat. They can combo into their grabs like they're any other special move

Late to the conversation but it definitely needs it. With alternate guarding you can avoid many command grabs even accidentally just by changing from a standing to crouching block. If you whiff a command grab while in front of the other player is doing an alternate guard you will get fully punished for it. To beat alternate guard you usually use a low attack since it will most likely hit them when they are trying to stand and if you can combo into your command grab, you can finish it that way if you want and get your set up.

XDZW the chinese King of Fighters like game with Terry and Benimaru did throws terribly imo. Normal throws in that game are 2 buttons versus the usual 1 button throw for KOF. And with how the netcode works and the game was programmed it, along with alternate guarding, a lot of times there were many unthrowable frames and you can just eat it for attempting it. In KOF if you attempt a normal throw, you just get a close heavy normal and you can just do a block string or something safe and chip. In this game if you miss the normal throw attempt you get a whiff and are open to get punished, and it actually is pretty easy to do damage in the game. Not to mention normal throws didn't do that much damage last time I played it (When roller skate girl was released, which is quite a long time ago).

I know people say Potemkin is weak but watching FAB rip peoples' faces off makes me a bit nervous about buffing him.
FAB gonna FAB lol. With this sort of reasoning Mightmar would never be allowed to pick up Anak in a hypothetical DS4 for fear of looking OP. Same goes for any other true character specialists or low tier heroes.

Also, I mean it seriously. FAB gonna FAB whether you are great or your character is off the charts. Anji's +R version ain't no walk in the park, though. From the early vids I saw he gives Pot hell and then some.

Two years ago but it was the representative speaking: http://beastnote.blogspot.fr/2012/11/under-night-in-birth-devs-interview.html
After that, NyuuMedia made some trolling saying they were interested in the game but it didn't worked after all and here we are with our PS3 versions and 8 months too late ports.

When are Japanese companies gonna get that Steam is an amazing place to sell their games?

Gif and T.Hawk both need fireballs. At least give Gief his mecha yoga flame thing.

Heh, I remember that move. I loved playing MechaGief in MvC.

Don't think it was trolling, more likely it was just they couldn't come to an agreement.

That said, I think Nyuu and Examu could make something work.

There was some recent interview or something where they said they were in the beginning phases of development for it.
iirc, they always say that Melty Blood HD is up to the people that own it (forget their name atm)

Whoever wrote the changes from XXAC Pot (best Pot iteration in XX series) to Xrd missed some key differences.

crS no longer vacuums on hit/block
Heat Knuckle without Heat Extend followup launches opponent instead of dropping them in front of you (so good).

These are kind of massive IMO. crS x Hammer Feint mixups were really potent.

Slide and Pot's overhead in AC had kind of similar start up animations so it could be used for mix up upclose since it hit low (Slide is actually a 2 part attack, the first part hits low, the second part is the unblockable shockwave if you're on the ground).

XX Pot has all the tools of a good character. Xrd Pot is without the tools to be a good character.

Xrd still looking like it'll be super boring.

Yeah I passed this sorry but it's because I didn't watched to much Xrd. :(
I didn't know 6K was his shoulder charge in Xrd and that's kind of stupid. Also the vaccum effect removed was stupid. Also I don't know if you noticed but someone told me 5P does not touch crouching characters on block now so you can't mixup from it.

That's it. It's like Ogawa with Eddie, Koichi with I-no or Shonen with Testament. These guys just have the game in their blood and their character in the brain.

I like Arcana Heart but it's not the first game I would like to see on Steam to be honest. Still more FGs on steam = a good thing.

I finished a new video (Dr. Doom happy b-day tutorial). I feel like I'm slowly getting the video-making thing figured out. Comments/criticism/advice more than welcome!

The capture is clean, and while I'm not a fan of words in the video (or at least, so many), it was onscreen just the right amount of time.

Font is clean as well as the middle logo.

Great stuff.

No comment on the audio, as I don't have audio on this machine.

Looks like you need Omega in your life
if it happens, it's going to happen there, or a PC mod, in which case, you're covered.

It finally got netcode? I remember that they had to deflect a lot of detractors because it didn't have netcode at all. Good on them for getting that in.

Lol, no. Just chiming in on the want PC ports stuff above your post. The port is as low effort and online as horrible as ever, sadly.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm of two minds on the text- I like to explain things clearly, so people have the 'why' to go with the 'how,' especially since a lot of combo videos give you no indication whether or not a combo is practical, how it's useful, etc., but I also would like to avoid breaking up the flow of the video if possible. Maybe it'd be better to put the heavy reading in the description for people who are interested? I'm just happy I'm slowly getting the hang of things.

Villager laughs at your requests to desist.

Such a great character. Throw a buncha crap at people, run away, frustrate them into walking into a flower pot or bowling ball.

I love to pocket Robin's Thoron and fling it back at them for an insta-gib

I mainly play my son, who uses MiiFighter almost exclusively, so I don't get to practice pocket much. I wish I could pocket that stupid aerial down kick. /salt

Meanwhile, Bill Trinen says he's a Zelda main in Melee.

I still hold that against Nintendo. Taking out Snaking :/

With the Stage Creator returning with Smash 4 and having built-in sharing this time around, I wonder how much the competitive community will embrace it to get around the complaints that Smash 4 is short on tourney legal stages. The Stage Creator would make it easy to recreate Project M stage designs, since they're mostly static anyways. Uniformity could be achieved if a big organizer or tournament shared stages that were labeled as "Evo/Apex/Smashboards offical custom stage 1/2/3/etc" that were then used in organized competitions.
