Fighting Games Weekly | Nov 17-23 | Settle it in Smash

On our last match when your up B didn't connect the last hit and my b-air punish coming down came out too late when I landed, my heart skipped a beat lol. And that Town And City match was brutal. I didn't expect my Marth to do better than my Ness tbh after that.

I noticed that Dancing Blade seemed to work better in the Wii U version after watching you. I dunno if that's really the case, but I feel like on 3DS, they'd easily fall out.

Also, I'm really bad at reading your rolls on wakeup lol. You'd see me charge f smash the other way but it never worked.

Just wanted to mention I added more to that post. Also how was the connection?

Edit: Room's up!

Doable. I think Greninja's the hardest to fight on it though since he recovers rather fast on his moves while Zamus is just "safer".
So it's a bit easier to play the waiting/spacing game on her for me. Greninja I needed more dash attacks and reads, haha.

But yeah, as long as I'm having fun with people I know, I don't mind a lot of connections.

Edit: I actually really liked your Zamus. Not much to say there since so many of it were right decisions with her moves. I liked your Pit. You balanced between using arrows to force me to approach and then creating a wall of aerials when I got close. Also really good spacing on those nairs, I had to kind of just back off a bit once I realized they racked up so much damage. Greninja was good too. He's able to safely throw out a lot of moves, imo. I can't really say anything bad. I had to fight for those wins, and even then they were really close. lol

Blastzones being smaller on the Wii U version really helps out Marth, I noticed. No more waiting until 200 percent and up just to get kills anymore while your opponent has rage that whole time. With smaller blastzones and a GC controller, sorry Lucina, but you might be dropped now.

I don't think they are smaller. Just no VI.

I haven't kept up with the thread, but it still exists for horizontal inputs, but not vertical. But because of all the factors, it sounds like it's best to DI like Melee and Brawl regardless.

Then again, this was 3DS version. I have no idea if people put in the same research on the Wii U version just yet.

It is angular momentum though, not directional.

If you're still on around 12 a.m. EST, I want to play against you Karst.

Note: I suck at this game right now.
sure thing.
What is your NNID?

Curious to hear Karst's thoughts on my play.
I love your spacing on Marth. Your mind games with him are great. So much aerial control. I think you focus a bit too much on spacing though, and don't make me fear the possibility of you rushing at me. That is, you consistently play a spacing game, and it is a strong one, but you make it too easy for me to know what it is that I need to be doing. Go in on me sometimes.

Sorry Karst, I've got to go for a bit. I'll be back later, that Bowser is awesome. I don't think I've been streaked on in a Smash game like that in a while.

Edit: As always, critiques welcome. The more indepth the better.

Added you, Sayah. Ready to play?

GGs, those matches were a ton of fun. I love the crazy daring and creative things you do with your characters. Even if it killed Greninja a few times.

It is hard to critique you because you used so many characters. I do think you could stand to be more aggressive, and some of the things you do are predictable. You always jump right before landing, so I would jump with you and fair. When you dash back and forth, it follows a pattern, so I wait for you to do part of it and grab you.

Elizabeth confirmed best sister?
Say what now?

Oh right, Azure, just wanted to let you know when I'm Ike, he's actually really simple to edgeguard.

If he has to use up B to recover, jump off and stay above and behind him. Then when he starts going up, spike or stage spike him and he's basically dead. Ike really can't do much to get past this. If anything, there's B reversing the up B, but he has to be well near the stage of course.

Sounds like the one getting that work in the end

So Daigo is at Moment 37 Reloaded but didn't enter the CvS2 or the 3s tournament? He's only there for one match?

Heh, thank you. This is pretty much my "home game" series so I'm more than willing to go nuts trying to have fun and style it out effectively. I was really really surprised at how many things I learned through that set. I was also consistently surprised at how good Bowser is. :lol

The dashing thing I'm trying to get a better handle of myself in terms of varying it and being less predictable. I pretty much play a strong grounded game in the other Smash titles so I'm still trying to make good use of the tools I have to bait out moves and generally control the ground space. If only I could actually consistently use shield dash grabs.

Just confirmed with Daigo earlier.

At 37 reloaded he'll be entering:

  • Capcom VS SNK 2
  • Super Street Fighter II TURBO
  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
  • Ultra Street Fighter IV

He will also be participating in a few exhibitions, which will be a real treat for FG fans. He also mentioned that he is honored/humbled at the opportunity to attend an event that is a celebration of something that he was a part of 10 years ago. While USF4 is his only focus at this time, he's looking forward to good games and fun in the old games.

See you guys there at Cal Poly Pomona or on the stream! <3
This is the last official word I heard (from a week ago). I don't see Daigo on the 3s bracket though

I actually knew about this, but I was trying too hard to style in my home game. I wanted to hit you with at least one tippered f-smash in the blindspot where Ike does his flips before coming down. :lol
