I feel like Samus is pretty strong in this game. Then again, I love playing Megaman. Bowser is so frustrating to play against keep away. WFT and Samus both give me rage.

I feel that Samus is a lot stronger than she was in Brawl (I'm still mad salty about that), but still a little bit of a far cry from how she was in melee. Her wavedash-centric playstyle gave her some much needed agility on the ground given how booty her roll was, and I liked mixing up Super Missile/Charge Shot landing shenanigans. And Super Wavedash was silly, but fun.

I really do like Zero Suit Samus in this one though. I was not a fan in Brawl.

Hmm, I've been trying to utilize these movement options in Smash 4, but I'm afraid of destroying my circlepad so I don't really go in on it and that makes getting the timing down more difficult. Maybe I'll wait for the Wii U version before trying to get too serious with the game. :x

GGs earlier Karst. I'm not sure what you can do with Bowser to do better against WFT though. The Fire Ball that you used in the first match seemed more useful than the other one.

That dash dancing one is brand new for me. omggggg

But yeah, Smash community is really weird about naming advanced mechanics/discovered mechanics. It might actually help people out more if these terms weren't so alien sounding leading to ignorant opinions like "they shouldn't exist" from casuals just looking to jam.

Dashdancing is cool.
Foxtrotting should be rapid dashing.
Reverse Aerial Rush (lololol). Thankfully people have opted to call a spade a spade in this case and call them pivot aerials.
Wavebouncing is the same as RAR except for Reversed B moves.

Marth's new reach doesn't actually follow the trail of his sword it seems. Adding to the list of weird "off" things about him which also include him having landing lag on every aerial that isn't back air and thus pidgeon holing him into approaching with pivot back airs or pivot forward tilt.

The custom move grind in this game is perhaps the most annoying thing I have seen in the last decade. Not since FFX ultimate weapons have I been so pissed.

I don't even have a good reference for how asinine the custom grinding is. People will go on and on about whether or not Sakurai is a good game designer or how much of Melee was on purpose but then we have a game where not only are the biggest draws of the fighters "random loot" but you have an increasingly bigger chance of drawing the same fucking custom moves you've already unlocked as your haul.

Not at all, this is for the Smash whining. You can't really "own" Tekken 7 yet to make that sort of opinion on it.

Tekken thread is pretty obvious at this point... random user comes in and complains that Tekken 7 isn't that big of a change from previous Tekken games (game play wise and graphically) and the regulars come in and tell the users that they are full of shit or didn't really care for Tekken to begin with. This is why I put out my opinion early and got everything off my chest... because I already know that what I said is going to get amplified dramatically by the casuals or regular GAF members. I was actually very restraint in my comments and tried to maintain the most balance approach but your average gamer is just going to come in and just say stuff like "looks just like every other Tekken made" or "still looks clunky and worse than KI" without any actual research done.

This is going to continue until the game is released, probably even somewhat after it.

Random junior members come in and say Tekken 7 is a 2D fighting game using PS1 animations and looks the same since Tekken 2. Yeah, you don't need to be a Tekken regular to call out that BS.

If I ever do tourneys, I don't think I could keep on using Marth or Lucina. I haven't ran into any issues until Karst where I could see how bad Marth's flaws are in this version. His range is really bad in this. Melee and Brawl you could space and do well timed moves to tipper them without getting hit. In this one, f smash will just straight up lose with its new hitbox.

End of an era. :(

I think you could have been more aggressive with your counters to deal with some of my strategies. Though I have yet to fight a challenging Lucina. WFT, Samus, and Falco cause problems for me.

i remember playing smash brothers on my nephews 3ds and could only last like 2 minutes before giving it back. the 3ds feels horrible in my hands. there is no way i would ever be able to use the analog stick long term. better to just wait for the wii u version.

I might need to. It's pretty difficult to safely get in at the moment, and then there's that armor I need to remember at low percents.
I definitely need to throw out more attacks to stuff out some of your specials. I'm also failing to roll after blocking upB to chase you down a little, so I guess I'm keeping myself at a disadvantage by waiting too much.

I played a bunch of Smash locally with some guys at Super Arcade yesterday >:)

Rosalina still feels like a strong character. But she is floaty and has trouble coming down against fast characters. I had to aim for ledge grabbing on purpose just so I could get an invincible defense option, even when I was not near ledges.

Also people harass my Luma ;_; stop hitting the star bro! It is really fun to screw with characters on the ground with Luma though. Sometimes I drop on Luma on purpose just so I can swing at anyone trying to keep me from landing.

Rosalina is probably one of the strongest characters. Likely will turn out to be just under the S Tier of the game when it happens. I don't know if we can factor in custom moves yet. The only one I've tried so far is the Luma Drill, but it's ass.

I usually am in most matchups. I guess getting wrecked by Bowser early on for doing it made me too scared to keep fighting like that lol


Rosalina's pretty scary. Considering you can do inputs for Luma any time, grabbing Rosalina when Luma is nearby sounds risky.

I'm going to stick it out a bit more with him (because I'm a hard head and character specialist) but unless I learn something amazing about where this game's ground combat is going, this might be the first Smash in 13 years where he gets put on the bench indefinitely.

If they made his Dancing Blade as good as Brawl's, that would've helped.

What moves are you using to kill right now? Upair isn't too bad since the blast zones seem smaller above than the left/right. Bair's the only other good aerial to kill but the tipper's harder to land in this game. I usually find myself going far off stage for a kill.

The funny thing is I can still eyeball tippers and thus can get KOs with tippered f-smash and bair, but it always feels like a gamble especially with how shields work in this game. There is zero push back on them and as such a powershield = instant [insert anything the opponent's moveset consists of here] punish.

In thinking about it and spending so long writing this post though, I think I finally get why Smash 4 Marth feels off. It's one part being too used to Project M and transitioning again and one part not getting how to flow with him. I feel stuck in place more often than not and as such I'm left with a lot of downtime where I'm wondering what's happening or what I could be doing better. I might be able to adapt with time.

I'm actually thinking of ZSS, Rosalina and Greninja. Those three are really fun even at a scrub level.

I disagree with Poison. I think she actually changes how Rose plays. Other than that, that's a list agree with.

I haven't played any really good Poison's yet even though my cousin is like ranked top 5 with Poison on XBL

I can sorta see how it would be hard for Poison since her zoning does nothing but feed Rose meter. Not sure about the up close battle since I have no experience.

Big House 4 top 32 => top8 was insane. Watch the vods folks. I have to sleep but I can only hope the actual top8 will be as insane as the stuff up until now.

2d doesnt become 3d fighting until up doesnt jump and I can willingly going into foreground/background, circling my opponent imo.

As a casual Tekken observer, I can only tell characters and supers, from a gameplay perspective, are new. It still looks very Tekken which Im sure they wanted since that got Tekken to that best selling fighter status when SF went into haitus. Graphically, I can see things done changed.

It'll do well if Tekken has a market.
