I'm disappointed that in the latest previews/marketing material, WB seem to be shying away from the "correct" characterisation of Alexander's relationships with men..I'm hoping that's a marketing thing, and not a reflection of the final movie, given how adamant Stone initially was not to gloss over that aspect of his life.

That asides, it looks like it should be a great movie.

edit - WOW at trailer! Epic indeed. The "irish" accents may not be as bad as I first thought either. Hmm, can't wait to see this.

When we went to see Ladder 49 last night we saw a trailer for Alexander... I leaned over to the missus and said "I'm burnt on these movies..." IMO Gladiator is still the best of em.

I agree that Gladiator is the best modern epic of this type thusfar, but we've had too many? Troy is the only other recent one I can think of..

Looks pretty good and certainly a step up from Troy but I can't help but think the cast is wrong. Colin looks great in some shots and just plain wrong in others. Stone should have cast more european faces and left the typical american actors out.

Ridley is doing another of these sorts of movies with Kingdom of Heaven. That'll be interesting to see.

Exactly my feeling. Those "sweeping battle shots" do absolutely nothing for me along with the old sounding dialogue. Eh to historical epics overall.

I thought Kilmer's had shades of irish in it in parts, as did other voices who's actors I couldn't identify. Jolie's/the other girl's and Hopkin's were the only ones that didn't seem to have some irish twang to them.

edit - the reason stone allowed/asked for the irish accents was because in all previous roman epics, the characters all put on english accents..he feels alexander was to rome what ireland was to england (not necessarily historically, but culturally), and thus felt it appropriate to have them use irish accents.
