Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

From what I remember...

It'd disrupt every facet of the proceeding story; Aeris and Holy, the whole half-Ancient and being able to bring about the Lifestream to stave off the meteor. Then the whole Cloud reveals, SOLDIER, Neiflheim, his origin etc. It's such an asinine suggestion.

Started playing FVII for the first time last week (on pc).
Not bad for the 45mins I've played but been finishing of Yoshi's Woolly World first so gonna be my focus for the rest of the month.

Also thinking I'll pick it up on the PS4 especially if they clean up a few of the videos, any idea of what kind of work their doing or straight port of the PC version?

Kagari said she'd heard that part of the reason it's taking so long is because it's receiving a new translation.

But the new PC version already has a new translation, no?

Does the PSN version have a cleaned up translation too or is it the derpy, OG one? I wanna replay it, but I feel like revisiting the charming, wonky translation is half the fun.

PSN version is a straight dump of the PS1 CD, just as it was in Sept 1997. So go ahead if you want that "charm" (which I totally get).

Strange thing: yesterday I was in a Gamestop, I saw their magazine with offer etc.

FFVII Remake is already available for preorder, 71€.

Pretty sure you could have pre-ordered FF Versus XIII back in 2006 or The Last Guardian back in 2009 at Gamestop ;P

Gamestop: "Yes, We'll Take Your Money!"™

If they did number six, the best scene in the game would hardly have any emotional power.
Aeris' last words in the sleeping forest

Its always the shitty people that played the game one time 10 years ago and can barley remember a single story beat that think they know exactly what needs to change..

You would think they would at least play the original again before making such a list but whatever you can't spell ignorant without ign.

A new translation would fix more than spelling errors. The IGN article that was just posted brings up the way Barret speaks. From what i've read, that's unique to the western translation of the game. He doesn't speak like that in the Japanese version. There was a FF7 retranslation project where the person behind it was out to specifically fix how the western versions handled Barret and Cait Sith.

I forgot about Barrett's racial-caricature translation situation. I'm still gonna hit up the PSN version, but it'll be nice to see that cleaned up in the future port and remake.

Eh, talking about The Last Guardian, that will be released next year, it's IMPOSSIBILE preorder it at the moment in Gamestop. In fact I asked to the clerk why, and he told me because the game would be released in 2016, I was pointing that there's only a CGI for FFVIIR, but than I gave up, don't want to make a discussion.

That's probably because of its former limbo status. Pre-orders have certainly been taken for TLG in the past. Maybe a moratorium on pre-orders was sent down during the uncertainty years that was not overridden by its re-announcement last month.

IGN can kick rocks. Aerith was meant to kick the bucket. They should go write fanfiction with their idea. It's Cloud's story whether they like it or not.

Anyone see IGN's '7 Things the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Needs'? - http://ca.ign.com/articles/2015/07/16/7-things-the-final-fantasy-7-remake-needs

Number six especially... Christ alive.

If you’re going to remake Final Fantasy 7, it had better be the definitive, all-encompassing, and final version of the modern classic. You can secure that by bringing more of the strong outside fiction into the mainline story -- and Remake will be all the better for it.

How can something be a modern classic if they're asking to change everything because it's antiquated...

That IGN list is the stupidest thing I've read about the remake since the announcement.

It's blindingly obvious it was written by a jackass who doesn't give a shit about the original.

What the fuck?

So they would rather that all of the stuff about Cloud's alter ego and the whole interesting take on his split personality be just completely dropped from the game? Just to change the twist so that Aeris doesn't die?

Jesus Christ, did the person who wrote that ever even play the damn game? I really hope that was meant as a joke or something because there is no way to take that seriously.

I really wish they could get it out in 2017 for its 20th anniversary.

Depending on what they show this winter it may just be a fantasy.

We might have a better idea once they show how far along things are. It's not like they have to create a whole new story or world here so I expect things to move along quickly.

Yeah, it would be perfect to have it come out 20 years later. I really hope that's their goal and that they have the resources available to make that a reality.

True, but from what Vernedes said is that while the story of FF7 is complete they are going through/reexamining the script like expanding certain things (Zack), make certain changes (my guess Yuffie and Vincent are now encountered no matter what and not secret), etc. But like you said we will see how far along it is.

"Of Nobuo Uematsu’s many spectacular scores, Final Fantasy 7 is probably his most recognizable and memorable. "

... yeeeeeah. [Citation Needed]

(I realize that's not the article's biggest offense by any means, but the more obvious ones have been covered.)

FF7 took a bit to grow on me, but I'd put the soundtrack up there. Top 5 easily. Don't think anything can top FF6 though for me.

Square isn't screwing around with their own broken engines anymore, so don't be so cynical.

Hopefully this project is being built on UE4 - the savior of Japan it seems after attempts at creating in-house tech powerhouse engines seems to have failed. I don't see it as a bad thing because it's allowing developers to speed along projects much quicker rather than wait for cobbled together engines to bear fruit.

I am assuming with my next-to-nothing rationale that they're pretty far off. Unless this has been in secret development for half a year or so, they've still got a long way to go. I suppose though the two/three year cycle doesn't seem too terrible.

The issue is that they still have to basically build a brand new game, as I'm sure you already know. Even if the story is already in place, I highly doubt it'll be a beat for beat remake. So there's still gonna be time editing the script and fine tuning things. I would expect it to be a normal dev cycle for a new game from the ground up.

Cyberconnect2 is using UE4 for thier other games..

Plus UE4 looks pretty enough

FF7 Remake has been a thing for well over a year now.

Actually, how early in their development cycles were Versus XIII and KHIII announced? I want to say there was barely any concrete work done on either when either of them were first revealed? I know they were both revealed too soon, but I'm curious about just how soon.

Hi, we have this CG trailer and base concepts. Please understand.

XV has been in production since 2012 so it was probably pretty damn early. I dunno about KH3 but I'd expect that one to have started at a similar time considering that's when Nomura left Versus
